Oral Communication in Context Week 5

Quarter 1 – Module 5: Types of Speech Context

What I Have Learned

1. Based on what you have learned from the previous activities, define
speech context in your own words.
- The setting or environment in which the conversation takes
place is referred to as speech context.

2. As a senior high school student, what do you think is the advantage

of having good communication skills in a variety of contexts? Do you
think it will help you improve your personality? Why or Why not?

- To allow others and oneself to understand information more

properly and efficiently, good communication skills are
required. Poor communication skills, on the other hand, lead
to a lot of misunderstanding and frustration. Strong
friendships are formed when we have good communication
abilities. It also contributes to our personality. As a result,
students like myself will enjoy going to school each day.
Simultaneously, it enables us to learn how to convey our
ideas and feelings in ways that others would naturally
comprehend.

3. Do you agree with this statement: Speech context can influence

one’s behavior? Why/Why not?

- Yes, I believe that the context of one's speech may impact

one's conduct toward oneself and others since the correct use
of tones, word choice, and the subject of one's speech are all
closely connected to the audience.

4. Which of the types of speech contexts do you find easy to

practice? Which ones do you find difficult?

- Intrapersonal communication is the simplest to learn since we

begin by conversing with ourselves, and the main topic of
discussion is our own ideas. You don't need to rehearse your
speech; all you have to do is express your feelings, thoughts,
and ideas. But public speech is the most difficult because
speaking in front of a huge crowd requires a great deal of
guts, from evaluating your target audience, to preparing and
composing your speech to rehearsing. The key is to arrive well
prepared.

5. What should you do to improve your skills?

- Active listening should be practiced. Good listeners are always

effective communicators. Nonverbal cues and signals can help you
avoid misunderstandings and indicate interest to others around
you. When conversing with someone in a professional situation,
pay attention to your facial expressions and body language. It's
critical to control your emotions and communicate them correctly
in context for clear communication and your own personal well-
being. Ask about feedback. It's quite OK to seek honest criticism
on your communication abilities from friends. Make public
speaking a habit. Although public speaking might be intimidating,
there is no better method to improve your communication
abilities than to participate in public speaking events. Effective
communicators have well-developed social skills and are able to
control how they convey their thoughts and feelings to others.
Understand what is proper to say in various interpersonal
situations.
