1. Explain the reasons for U.S. neutrality during the 1920s and 1930s. How did ideas about
neutrality change during the period from the end of World War I to the passage of the Lend-
Lease Act? Be sure to include any events, terms, or people that may support you response.

The U.S before around the 1930s was commonly known as the Isolanist country, which
in term means that the U.S stays out of foreign matters especially during foreign wars and
affairs. In the early years of the 1930s, there were articles that claimed that manufacturers
pressured the U.S. into WW1 for personal finical gain. This problem came up again with
the cash and carry policy for armed weapons. The U.S couldn’t stay out of foreign
matters. So, they created neutrality acts in order to help, gain profit, and stay still slightly
neutral. Many Americans didn’t think this to be true. “You can’t help foreign wars and be
safe,” they thought. But president Roosevelt thought yes you can, we need to help with
slight intervention. So, in term the lend lease act was created, and the neutrality and
isolationism of the U.S came to a slow stop, with the intervention with help in the form of
armed goods.

1. In your opinion, what was the point at which U.S. actions were no longer neutral? Explain your
reasoning with supporting details from the lesson.

I think most likely, Japan's expansion was the point at which American actions no longer were
neutral. Neutrality began to fade as President Roosevelt wanted to help China against Japan. He
got past the wishes of congress and completed the cash and carry policy for China. This is when
U.S lost all hope of neutrality.

3.Criticize or defend each of the U.S. actions surrounding World War II that are listed below.
Justify your opinion with supporting details from the lesson.

1. 1st Neutrality Act ---- The reason I agree with this act is that it prevents American
citizens from lending their funds to other countries for the purpose of ensuring
their safety.
2. Cash and carry ---- I have to criticize the Cash and Carry approach to WW1. In my
opinion, this puts the United States in a very vulnerable position, especially being
caught up in the middle of wars occurring in other countries and/or places.

3. U.S aid to China --- I am neutral to this happening, I get why president Roosevelt
wanted to help China when they got invaded by Japan, but It brought the U.S out
of neutrality and put the country in a vulnerable place with the cash and carry
policy.
4. Lend-lease act ---- I believe that the Lend-Lease act was a wise/smart idea. This act
made the president able to provide defensive aid to different nations while
getting paid back. The main recipients or contributors of this Act were Great
Britain, the Soviet Union, and China.
