53 4 Illustrate and describe components of a food chain by
using a specific example
Answer

Photosynthesis is where the source of energy and the process by which plant
use the energy of sunlight, water from the soil and carbon dioxide form the air
to produce food and oxygen, this is very important process.

Producers are the primary producer who produced the first energy from the
sunlight in the food chain. They are the first one in the food chain. Producers
are living things that make their food. Organisms like this are called
autotrophs. All producers use the water carbon dioxide and energy from
sunlight to produce food. Ex: Green plants

Consumers are the ones that consumed producers or another consumers and
they used that energy to fuel their growth and development. A consumer eats
other organisms to obtain energy and nutrients they need to survive in the
most basic terms. Consumers play an important role in the ecosystem by
ensuring that no one species becomes too abundant.

When living things die, Decomposers such as bacteria fungi and some
insects break down or decompose their bodies and help return the nutrients
back to the soil or other environments. An organism that breaks down dead or
decaying organic matter in the food chain. Decomposers are important
because they recycle nutrient-rich materials back into the ecosystem. Without
decomposers, many ecosystems would soon become overrun with waste and
dead plants and animals.

54 4 Describe situations and consequences of predator and
prey relationships in context of population dynamics
Answer The Population Dynamic between prey and predators are very much attached
to one another. If there are too many predators then population of prey
would’ve been in a tip of imbalance and the prey population gets uncontrollably
loose in the absence of predators, it can cause troubles in the environment.
Examples: On some countries, rabbit’s population had been increasing since
decades, in result, it can eat crops and damage farms on the land. Same thing
about the predators, if prey populations is small then eventually an
environmental collapsed on both populations because the predators cannot
sustain itself without much food which can also lead to a competition of the
same organism.

55 4 Summarize in four sentences why the Laguna de Bay

experience aquatic hypoxia
Answer
As Laguna Lake experience aquatic hypoxia. One reason should say it is the
serious problem of untreated sewage and unwarranted industrial waste. The
uncontrolled lake dumping caused severe depletion of oxygen level in the lake.

Fish farms or aquafarms would bring an unwarranted amount of wasted

nutrients onto the waters which could lead to mass fungal growth creating an
imbalance which causes shortage of dissolved oxygen within the waters, has
the effect which can cause an ecosystem collapsing and eventually no living
organism surviving.

57 8 In six sentences, compare and contrast

bioaccumulation, biomagnification, and biconcentration
Answer Bioaccumulation talks about accumulation of substance only in a single or
individual organism, Biomagnification talks about food chain, and an increase
in the concentration in the food chain. Example: Food chain of Marine Life
where contaminants reach from the producer to the consumers, whenever it
passes from their producer to the next trophic level, the concentration of the
substance increases, it is called as Biomagnification, occurs in the food chain
it involves various organisms whereas only within a single organism substance
accumulates over a period of time, it is called Bioaccumulation which occurs
in a single organism. Like Bioaccumulation, Bioconcentration also occurs in
this single organism, but Bioconcentration is a more specific term, meaning
in their Bioconcentration accumulation of their substance comes only from
water whereas Bioaccumulation is a broader term, it indicates that substance
comes from all the sources to their particular organism. Example: There are
two organism, the first organism only source of substance is water for their
Bioconcentration, but in Bioaccumulation, the same substance comes from
water, air, land, etc… Bioaccumulation is a broader term whereas
Bioconcentration by accumulation occurs only within an organism and
Biomagnification occurs in the food chain.

58 8 Choose an elemental nutrient cycle in class. In five

sentences, give the most important features of your
chosen nutrient cycle.
Answer
Oxygen Cycle

Respiration: Plants released oxygen in the air so living organisms needed

breathing for respiration. All living beings needs oxygen for respiration.
Repeat: The Plants take the carbon dioxide to repeat the process in order for
them to release oxygen or glucose.

It reacts chemically in a number of other materials. It can combined with

reactive metals to form a metal oxides. Most metal oxide are useful as they
produced a hard protective layer on the surface.

Other Uses: Oxygen can filled an oxygen tank that is used in Hospital for
medical treatment in order to treat people with breathing problems. Also,
oxygen can be served as a life support that is often used for astronauts or
scuba divers.
