Kavya Case Analysis

1. What is the problem in the case in terms of talent attrition or challenges of

retaining the talent?

Ans:
● Even though the organization recognized one of its star performers and rewarded
her with the Star Performer of the year award. Upto some extent they failed to
promote their female employees to higher responsibilities. That reflected in the
conversation of Hemant and Vishal when criticized Kavya in a conversation post
their performance appraisal. They had built a unconscious biasness for Kavya.
Instead of looking at her quality of performance in her role they criticized her for
not doing her job beyond the office hours.

● The culture within the organization is also something that can be looked upon as
Kavya’s own colleagues were questioning on her ability. This can lead
disengagement of the employees and it has been noted time and again that
disgruntled employees always tend to perform below their potential and doesn’t
hesitate to consider better opportunities outside the organization.

● The lack of engagement between the leadership and the employees also can be taken
into consideration. The fact that Harvey was working closely with Kavya for a short
period of time led the employees to believe that they have somekind of mutual
agreement. A more transparent work environment could have prevented these
thoughts in the first place.

2. What is the cause of the problem?

Ans:
Failing to establish a organizational culture when female employees are equally promoted
and recognized is the root cause of the problem. Without a shade of doubt the cultural
upbringing of Vishal and Hemant has major part in it. But being the employer it is the
responsibility of the organization to sanitize its employees about these unconscious biases.
3. What can be done to solve the problem in the near future?

Ans:
Harvey should take this matter seriously and convince the stakeholders to improvising the
organizations policy to promote more employees like Kavya. Also they should consider to
have more diversity and inclusivity in the organizations the leadership roles. Which will
help the organization and employees to have a more healthy and open culture.

4. What should be done to avoid those problems in the future?

Ans:
The organization should have incline it’s core values towards an more inclusive and open
work culture. Also a more transparent performance management and appraisal system will
also help the organization to maintain a healthy employer-employee relationship. Harvey
should take initiations to make organizational policy changes which have a more
collaborative work culture.
