As early as first grade, students start with arithmetic.
They gradually proceed to algebra,
geometry and calculus level math courses in later grades. The early exposure to analytical thinking through calculus, geometry and science classes better prepare students for college education. In the USA, however, this is substituted with a huge selection of classes and opportunities students have access to. At High School, children can study in several additional classes such as computer graphics and web design, journalism, cinematograph, theatrical art, that are not so popular in Kazakhstan, which shows that there is lack of creativity. However, having an ability to choose may lead to the selection of easier classes. The most common grading system in American schools is alphabetic. It consists of a scale from A to F. The second system, which is also used with elementary and high schools in the United States, is the 100-point system. It is believed that such assessments give the teacher more scope and more accurately reflect academic success. In high school, the credit system is most often used. It is the amount of accrued loans that is crucial when entering a college or university. This indicator is influenced not only by the depth of knowledge, but also by the student's motivation, his participation in social work, sports, behavior at school. In Kazakhstan students pass the UNT, which is the decisive exam for graduates, while in the USA several types of student activity are considered at once upon admission. These are their extracurricular activities, GPA, activity in society and so on.
