Activity 6:
Variance and its Importance in Biostat
I. Overview:
Variability is measured by the variance. The average of the squared
deviations from the mean is used to calculate it. The degree of spread in your
data set is indicated by variance. The variance is greater in respect to the mean
the more dispersed.
II. Objectives:
1. To calculate variance for a set of data.
2. To recognize and define variation.
3. To determine the love of patience required to fold the given problem's
answer.
III. Materials:
Google, Wikipedia, Internet, YouTube, Laptop, Calculator

V. Questions and Answers:
1. In simple terms, what is variance?
- The statistical assessment of the variation in numbers within a data
collection is known as variance. In more detail, variance assesses how far apart
each number in the collection is from the mean (average) and, consequently,
from each other.
2. What stages are involved in computing variance?
- Step 1, find the mean. Step 2, find each score’s deviation from the
mean. step 3, square each deviation from the mean. step 4, find the
sum of squares. Last step, divide the sum of squares by n-1 or N.
3. What function does variance serve in statistics?
- In statistics, the variance is used to assess how well the mean
summarizes all of the data. For instance, more range exists within the set the
larger the variance. This information can be used by data scientists to deduce
that the mean might not accurately represent the set as it would if the variance
were smaller.
4. Solving:
1. 2, 7, 3, 12, 9 Variance= 69.25-sum of all differences
= 33/6 or 6.6 mean > 17.4-13=4.4 2=19.36
> X= get the mean of 6.7 17.4-11=6.4 2=40.96
> 6.7-2=4.72= 22.09 17.4-26= -8.6 2=73.96
6.7-7= -0.32= 0.09 Variance= 221.2 – sum of all differences
6.7-3=3.72= 13.69
6.7-12= -5.32= 28.09
6.7-9= -2.32= 5.29
