Received A Wife From The Civil Affairs Bureau Ch.

The chilly November air was frighteningly cold as it swept through the streets of
Beijin [1], brushing the leaves off their trees. As people walked, the crunching of
leaves could be heard with every step.

However, no matter how cold or unbearing the weather was, it was unable to deny
the fact that now was a popular time for love and marriage.

Currently, the Bejin Changxing Bureau of Civil Affairs was both the happiest and
most painful place in the world.

In the east hall, people got married and in the west hall they divorced. The distance
between the two was a mere two hundred meters apart but they were like heaven
and hell, two entirely different worlds. The joy of marriage and the pain of divorce,
both polar opposites that can never mix.

And so, our story begins in the east hall.

November 10 is a popular day to get married because the day after is called
“Singles’ Day”[2].  So many young people liked to get married on this day so they
would no longer have to call themselves “single dogs” the next day.

Although the lines were long, each and every face was lit up with uncontrollable
joy. Couples embraced each other as they intimately whispered in each other’s ears,
promising sweet nothings to their lovers. The males laughed heartily, while the girls
smiled tenderly at their partners.

However, even the joy of marriage couldn’t stop one from being careless.

“Mr. Jiang and Miss Chen, please take out your household registers, identification
cards and other documents, please.” The lady working at the registrar was forty
years old but maybe it was because she worked in a place full of laughter, she still
looked very young and had a gentle demeanor about her.
Jiang Zitao and Chen Lanyi looked at one another with a slight smile on their faces
before taking out their documents.

Chen Lanyi had always been a reliable person so she took out her documents in an
orderly manner and gave a smirk as she handed them over to the staff.

Her boyfriend, on the other hand, had been rummaging through his suitcase for a
long time now, causing an alarm bell to go off in her head. Her boyfriend was
extremely satisfactory in all aspects but when it came to the important things he
tended to be somewhat careless.

“What’s wrong?”

“Um” Jiang Zitao couldn’t help but scratch his head in embarrassment and said in
an apologetic manner, “you see, I, um, forgot to bring my household register.”

Naturally Chen Lanyi was angry and gave him a piercing glare. Such an important
thing like marriage and he actually forgot the documents!

Jiang Zitao also understood that he was the one at fault here and hurriedly grabbed
his fiancee’s arm: “My dear, it was my fault, won’t you forgive me?”

The onlookers who witnessed this scene, all young and ignorant, smiled and
laughed, some even whistled in encouragement.

“Excuse me, but Mr. Jiang there are still many people waiting behind you so…” The
staff member also laughed at the couple’s antics and secretly thought about that
idiotic son of hers. If her son could act like this Mr. Jiang then he might’ve brought
home a bride by now.

But no matter how much she emphasized with the pair, there was still work to do
and people to marry. So with no choice, she asked for the two to stand to the side for
now.

Feeling the crowd’s stares on her back, Chen Lanyi was filled with embarrassment
as she hurriedly pulled Jiang Zitao to the side while repeatedly apologizing to the
staff.

“Just what am I going to do with you?” She signed in exasperation.

“Wifey~ please don’t be angry. I already called Ziquan, she should be here soon.”
Jiang Zitao coaxed his fiancee while hurridly dialing his phone and praying that his
sister, that lazy pig, wasn’t sleeping in late today.

Rinnnngg~

Jiang Ziquan’s phone rang a total of three times before she moved her gaze from the
TV and looked her phone’s screen. The contact name was “Henchmen.”

Smiling to herself, she picked up her phone and crossed her legs as she answered it:
“Hey dear brother, did you finalize your marriage yet?”

“Don’t talk and listen to me. I forgot to bring the household register I left at my
bedside table and I’m going to need you to bring it to me immediately.” He said in
one breath and then hung up. Jiang Zitao was quite clear on his sister’s personality,
for this sister of his liked to watch people make a fool of themselves and meddle
with their affairs. Therefore, the fewer words he said, the less suffering he would
have to go through.

“Hey, hey,” Jiang Ziquan was hung up on before she could say anything. Thinking
that her brother must really be panicking and she hurriedly ran to the bedroom.

Seeing the little red book on the table, Jiang Ziquan couldn’t help but sigh at her
brother’s stupidity. It was really hard to understand what her sister-in-law saw in
her brother.

“Ziquan, was that your brother? Did they finalize their marriage already?” Liu Yun,
Jiang Ziquan’s mother, had heard the commotion from earlier and followed Jiang
Ziquan to the bedroom. Her face was full of smiles and one could almost see the
word “happy” engraved on her forehead.

Jiang Ziquan ignored her mother and just waved the little red book at her.

Liu Yun blinked in confusion before clapping her hands together, jumping up and
down, “Wait, Ziquan are you getting married too? Who is the other person?”
She grabbed her daughter’s hand and pulled it,  as if she was asking about the latest
gossip. This daughter of hers was finally getting married, so naturally faint tears of
joy appeared in the corner of her eyes.

Jiang Ziquan, on the other hand, felt bewildered beyond belief. This mother of hers
must’ve watched too many soap dramas, so at this point there was no use in talking
some sense into her. Sighing helplessly she answered in a monotone voice, “Wow,
you really are my mother to be able to figure out my schemes so quickly.”

After that one sentence, Jiang Ziquan quickly ran away as her mother was
momentarily distracted. She didn’t dare to stay any longer, for if she was too late,
her brother really might try to kill her.

“Hey, don’t run! Hey! Remember, as long as you like them, I approve
wholeheartedly!” She called out after her daughter, still caught up in her feeling of
joy at finding her daughter trying to secretly steal the red book and get married.
However, after calming down and thinking it through, she slapped her thigh in
realization: “Isn’t that Jiang Zitao getting married today? Don’t tell me he forgot his
documents!?”  After guessing what happened, Mrs. Liu really wanted to punch that
stupid son of hers in the face.

Jiang Ziquan looked at the time, it was 2:30 in the afternoon. Fortunately the traffic
was pretty clear right now so she should be there in about another 30 minutes or so.

Meanwhile, a Shen Yumo was sitting in the waiting room with her boyfriend of four
years. Today, they were getting married.

She had graduated and returned back to her hometown of Beijin, a third-rate city,
four years ago.  However, because her parents lived here and she didn’t care either
way, she had decided to stay. Furthermore, since she was a teacher, she could find a
job almost anywhere, including in this city.

Her boyfriend, Chen Ruoguang, was the son of her parents’ friends. Although his
looks were average and he was a boring civil servant, he was a rather considerate
person. Their relationship had been very stable the last four years and now they
were getting married.
Unlike some of the other couples, she chose today to get married not because she
wanted to avoid being called single, but because a friend of hers told her today
would be a good day. Likewise, since she didn’t have classes to teach today and he
didn’t have work, the two agreed to this date.

Chen Ruoguang glanced at Shen Yumo and then glanced at the girl sitting next to
her. Shen Yumo was beautiful beyond compare and maybe it was because she
taught literature, she had a scholarly air about her that made people feel
comfortable. She was gentle on the surface, but had a bit of a stubborn temper.

However, no matter how beautiful she was, she was kinda…dull. The girl next to
Shen Yumo was looking at her man with passionate eyes while his own fiancee was
looking at him with a blank gaze. Shen Yumo had always kept a polite demeanor
around him, and was always mindful of her manners. Of all the couples around
them, only the two of them didn’t seem like lovebirds, and in fact, there seemed to
be a bit of alienation between them.

He knew that Shen Yumo probably didn’t have any feelings for him and was only
agreeing to this marriage because he looked faithful. However, he believed that once
they got married and had a child together, he’ll be able to capture this beauty’s
heart.

Thinking like this, he suddenly smiled at her.

Shen Yumo had no clue as to why Chen Ruoguang suddenly smiled at her, but out
of politeness, smiled back.

Back to Jiang Ziquan, she had pulled into the parking lot and had just ran into the
lobby when her phone rang. It seemed her brother was getting anxious.

Perhaps she was too busy running, but she didn’t see the person in front of her and
promptly knocked them over, causing the other party to cry a sudden “Ah” in pain.

Jiang Ziquan felt quite embarrassed, knowing that her strength was little bit
stronger than the average woman’s, and quickly apologized without even looking at
the person.
She hurriedly stood up and saw that the other party was also trying to stand up, but
maybe because they were hurt, they fell back down again.

Jiang Ziquan rushed over and checked the other for injuries before asking, “I’m so
sorry! Are you okay? Does it hurt anywhere?”

Shen Yumo looked up at the young and energetic girl before her: “I’m fine,
everything is fine.”

As she raised her head, Jiang Ziquan was finally able to get a good look at her.

Her skin was a white as snow and her eyes a pure black color that pairs well with
her long, delicate nose. Her hair was scattered loosely over her shoulders and a
sweet scent came from them. She wore a light blue trench coat over a white woolen
sweater that accentuated her already slim figure.

‘Studies maketh one inherently of noble bearing’ [3]

Jiang Ziquan first impression of Shen Yumo caused her to think of this line. As she
stared, she felt her heart skip a beat.

“Miss, I’m fine now, so you should get going.” Shen Yumo then looked at the red
book in Jiang Ziquan’s hands and thought that she was also here to get married. Not
wanting to delay either of them, she picked up the water bottles she had dropped
and added a phrase, “Congratulations on your marriage.”

Her voice was like a cool breeze in the summer air, causing one to feel refreshed
after hearing it. Jiang Ziquan felt like she was in a dream, unable to wake up as she
watched Shen Yumo’s retreating figure.

Rinnnngg!

The vibrations from her phone caused Jiang Ziquan to awake from her dreams and
back to reality, forced to remember she had a responsibility to do: “Hi, I’m here,
don’t worry.”

From a distance, Jiang Zitao saw his sister with a head full of messy hair, hurriedly
waved his hand at her.
“Ziquan, I’m over here!”

She broke into a sprint and was panting heavily by the time she reached him, and
handed the book to her brother.

“Thank you, Ziquan” said Chen Lanyi. Chen Lanyi and Jiang Ziquan had a cordial
relationship, sometimes she was nicer than Jiang Ziquan’s blood brother. Speaking
of, after Chen Lanyi’s thanks, her brother quickly pulled Chen Lanyi back in line
with him.

However, Jiang Ziquan didn’t care because she was lucky enough to see a heavenly
fairy today. So no matter what happened today, she wouldn’t get angry.

Wait,  after a thought, Jiang Ziquan sighed. She was just too late. The woman was
here probably here to get married. Did that mean that her heart, which was so hard
to move in the first place, would soon be frozen again? She unconsciously fiddled
with the jade hanging from her necklace, lost in her thoughts.

After running all the way here, she was sweaty and looked like a mess, so she asked
the staff where the bathroom was to fix up her makeup. Although it was her
brother’s happy day today, she couldn’t neglect her face either, at the very least she
didn’t want to look like her usual sloppy self.

“I’m fine”

“Miss”

“Miss~”

She replayed the scene with Shen Yumo in her head multiple times like a movie,
except with a few edits here and there。 That soft and gentle voice would be stuck
in her head for quite some time.

“My name is Jiang Ziquan.”

Suddenly, Jiang Ziquan said such a sentence to her reflection. She was thinking that
at the time she should have said something and maybe asked for the woman’s
phone number. Even if the woman was married, they could at least be friends. Then,
she shook her head at such thoughts. Her family was known to become hopelessly
infatuated with another and she was afraid if she acted, she might actually do
something outrageous.

“Yes?”

A voice sounded next to her.

Naturally, the voice belonged to Shen Yumo. After she was knocked down, Shen
Yumo needed to retouch her makeup because, in the end, the marriage certificate
photo was quite important. She had recognized the woman who had bumped into
her when she walked in, but wasn’t sure if she should say anything when she saw
Jiang Ziquan focused gaze. She was afraid she would disturb Jiang Ziquan who was
so focused on applying her makeup.

However when Jiang Ziquan spoke, she responded back.

T/N notes:

[1] Beijin: No I did not spell Beijing wrong, this is how the author wrote it in the text.
It’s supposed to be a made up city I guess? Original text: 北津

[2] Singles’ Day is a real thing in china, occurs annually every November 11 and is
more of a “Black Friday” type of holiday where it’s more about the shopping. Pity
that america doesn’t have one then I would have an excuse to throw pies at couples.

[3] “Studies maketh one inherently of noble bearing” is a phrase (腹有诗书气自华)

translated from a Chinese poem called 《和董传留别》. It’s basically saying that
reading makes one seem noble and graceful or that wisdom makes one seem
elegant. In this case, Shen Yumo’s scholarly air made her seem elegant and noble. I
tried making it sound like something from Shakespeare but idk how that turned
out.
Received A Wife From The Civil Affairs Bureau Ch.1

Hearing that familiar voice, Jiang Ziquan returned to reality, her soul returning to
her body. The fairy she had seen earlier was actually right beside her!

Trying to maintain a calm facade, she asked, “Ah, it’s you? Are you alright?”

“I’m fine.” Shen Yumo repeated with a smile. This was her first time meeting
someone who tied up their hair that way, it made Jiang Ziquan seem charming and
youthful.

Jiang Ziquan, still feeling quite embarrassed, rubbed the back of her neck, “Are you
here to get married as well?” Immediately she regretted those words. If she hadn’t
blurted out that thoughtless sentence then maybe she could’ve thought of
something better to say.

Shen Yumo was rather baffled by her question. Didn’t she know that nine out of ten
people here today are getting married. Really, what a silly girl, but Shen Yumo
nodded her head anyways.

“Uh, then, I wish you a happy marriage.” Although she didn’t show it on her face,
Jiang Ziquan felt her heart ache a little.

It’s best if I don’t ask for her name.

Then trying to decide what she should do, Jiang Ziquan rummaged around and
took out a few pieces of candy from her pockets: “Hey, um, do you want some
candy?”

Shen Yumo’s expression turned dark as she looked at the girl, but before she could
speak the other side responded.

“Ah! Silly me, this is not a place to be handing out candy.”

Again, Jiang Ziquan felt embarrassed. To actually offer someone candy when the
toilet was only a few steps away, how much more stupid can she get!
Shen Yumo froze for a moment, then thinking that maybe this girl was just trying to
get rid of the extra candy she had received for her wedding [1], moved her hand
forward.

Jiang Ziquan watched that tender and delicate hand grab the candy from her hands.
For a moment, their hands touched and she could feel the coldness of the other’s
hand.

“Thanks.” Shen Yumo then looked at her watch on her wrist: “Sorry, I still have
some business to finish, I’ll take my leave first.”

Jiang Ziquan felt her heart beat furiously at the beauty’s polite gestures, and stared
intensely at the retreating figure. She placed a hand over her heart and helplessly
said to herself: “Haah, that beautiful fairy is getting married today. Nothing will
change no matter how furiously you beat.”

Finishing the last touches to her makeup, Jiang Ziquan left the bathroom,
heartbroken, and sat down in a random seat.

On the east side of the Bureau of Civil Affairs, love was in the air. No, it was better
to say that the strong stench of marriage was so sickly sweet, it almost scared our
Miss Jiang to tears.

With every passing minute, her thoughts about Shen Yumo increased, so much so,
that she wanted to kidnap the girl and bring her back home. Ok, so maybe our Miss
Jiang was a little bit weird, perverted even, but it was a fact that she would’ve
relentlessly chased this beautiful fairy without a name, if she had just met her
earlier.

As Jiang Zitao walked out with his newly married wife, he saw his usually bright
eyed sister lost in a daydream. He no longer needed her and was about to visit his
in-laws, so why was she still here?

“Ziquan, why are you in a daze for?” Jiang Zitao waved a hand in front of his
sister’s face, but had to wave it back and forth multiple times before she finally came
to.
“Ah, Brother, sister-in-law, did you two finish already?” asked Jiang Ziquan, who
was still questioning the purpose of her life, but finally broke into a smile.

“Yup!” Chen Lanyi handed Jiang Ziquan her marriage certificate, a smug look on
her face.

Jiang Ziquan studied it for a bit, then seeing the happy photo of the couple thought
of that beautiful fairy again. The fairy was also getting married today and taking
pictures. Thinking like this, her heart felt uncomfortable. Maintaining her smile with
great difficulty, she said: “The picture looks really good.”

“Wow, your smile is so fake.” Jiang Zitao grew up with Jiang Ziquan, so he
naturally knew something was wrong. However, today was his happy day and he
didn’t want to ruin it, so he didn’t dig any deeper.

Jiang Ziquan: “….”

The three then walked out together and Jiang Zitao returned the household register
to Jiang Ziquan. She discussed the in-laws meeting with her brother, but wouldn’t
be joining them because she still had to hurry home and report the news to her
mother.

As soon as they stepped out the door, they saw a noisy crowd circled around
something.

“Hey, hey, what’s going on?” Jiang Zitao asked as he caught a glimpse of two
woman, a man, and even a little child standing in the middle of the crowd.

“From the way that woman is standing, I’m guessing she’s somebody’s mistress,
here to start trouble.” Chen Lanyi had seen plenty of situations like these and could
guess the whole drama immediately. However, she frowned slightly and said, “It’s
rather shameful to make trouble right in front of the Bureau though.”

Jiang Ziquan had never seen such a thing before so she was quite curious. She crept
closer and since she was tall, she could make out the people’s faces clearly.

When she was that familiar blue trench coat, she immediately started running into
the crowd like a demon, with a dark expression on her face.
Why would a beautiful fairy like her compete for a man?

How can such a kind person stand to be insulted like that?

Such a gentle and tender person, has to be hidden away and protected like a treasure!

Such thoughts ran through Jiang Ziquan’s mind as she shoved through the crowd.

“Ziquan, what are you doing?!” Jiang Zitao felt bewildered, raising his voice as he
rushed after his sister, pulling his wife with him.

“Yumo, please listen to me! I really didn’t know about the child! Please let’s get
married first and then I’ll explain everything to you when I get home.” Chen
Ruoguang anxiously pulled Shen Yumo’s hand as he begged her to stay. Chen
Ruoguang was in a bind. His girlfriend from college, whom he hadn’t seen in five
years, suddenly showed up today at the Bureau with a child.

As Chen Ruoguang desperately tried to escape this situation, the little boy beside
him seemed to understand his thoughts and rushed up to hug Chen Ruoguang’s
thigh.

“Daddy!” The little boy cried loudly, and tears flowed down his face. Finally he had
met his father, and no longer wishing to be called a “bastard” child anymore so he
held on tight, not budging an inch!

“Ruoguang, look at your child! He’s so big now, how could you just do this to us?”
The mistress, Wang Jiajing, had watched the man she loved court another girl,
couldn’t stand it any longer and rushed over here before she could explode from
jealousy.

As soon as the mistress spoke, the crowd broke out in whispers, scolding Chen
Ruoguang for being a scumbag who would neglect his soon-to-be wife and child.

Shen Yumo’s expression was unreadable as she glanced at the still crying child and
the weak looking woman named Wang Jiajing who was standing to the side. Feeling
both exhausted and annoyed beyond belief she said coldly, “Let go.”

Chen Ruoguang knew that if he let go of her hand now, he and Shen Yumo’s
relationship would definitely be over. Moreover, not only was he holding on for the
sake of Shen Yumo’s beauty, but for his career as well! As a civil servant, the matter
of marriage had to be reported and if he failed to get a certificate today, then what
would his superior say? Wouldn’t this impede his future career?

“Yumo, please, give me another chance!” Chen Ruoguang’s eyes were bloodshot,
much like a cornered wild beast, so he used a bit too much strength as he tightened
his grip.

Shen Yumo looked at the man she had known for four years and couldn’t find a
single trace of that man in this stranger before her. Again she tried to break free, her
thin, jade-like arm starting to turn red: “Let go of me.”

“Y-You,”Chen RuoGuang stammered, his eyes focused on this woman before him.
He must not let this woman walk away today!

Seeing this, Jiang Ziquan hurried forward and broke the two apart. At this moment,
feeling that this girl was more reliable than Chen Ruoguang, Shen Yumo didn’t say
anything as she watched Jiang Ziquan stand in front of her, blocking her from Chen
Ruoguang.

Jiang Ziquan roughly understood the situation and glared at the man coldly. Not
only did this trash humiliate her fairy, he also dared to lay his filthy hands on her!
She sneered at him: “You already have a wife and child, so don’t even think about
touching Yumo!”

“Who are you?” Chen Ruoguang knew every single one of Shen Yumo’s friends, so
this girl was obviously someone neither him nor Yumo knew.

“Why do you care who I am?” Jiang Ziquan then looked at the mother-child pair
beside him, gritted her teeth and said, “Why don’t you marry that woman over
there instead? It’s the most cost effective option: buy one, get one free.”

These kinds of words were a bit excessive and as a woman, Jiang Ziquan didn’t tend
to say such insulting or crass things. However, seeing how this woman dared to
cause trouble for her fairy, the woman obviously wasn’t a good person.

“Let me take you home.” Jiang Ziquan turned around and said softly, supporting
Shen Yumo and prepared to leave.
“Y-You can’t leave!” Chen Ruoguang must’ve really gone crazy, actually moved
forward, ready to tackle the both of them.

Jiang Zitao had no idea what his sister was doing, but blood was thicker than water,
so he stepped forward to protect her. In one step he had stopped Chen Ruoguang’s
outstretched arm. Chen Ruoguang already looked like a weak scholar, so naturally
his strength couldn’t compare to the Jiang Zitao who played basketball.

“Are you going to hit a woman as well?” Jiang Zitao teased as he gripped Chen
Ruoguang’s arm.

Although Chen Ruoguang was immobilised by Jiang Zitao, his mind turned and he
shouted, “Shen Yumo! In half an hour, the clock will strike four! Don’t you care
about your parents anymore?”

Hearing this, Shen Yumo froze.

Jiang Ziquan could only see Shen Yumo’s side profile, but she felt that Shen Yumo’s
expression looked a little bit…lonely.

“Yumo…” She started.

However, Chen Ruoguang, thinking that his tactics were working, interrupted her
and continued: “Shen Yumo, except for me, who else would be willing to marry you
within this half an hour?!”

Shen Yumo did not move.

“Shen Yumo, your parents themselves said that four’o’clock is the most auspicious
time! So except for me, who else will marry you?” Chen Ruoguang smiled like a
madman, and his laughter sounded quite cruel. Despite the years they had been
together, he hadn’t had a taste of Shen Yumo. So as a man, if he was unable to
conquer this woman, he wouldn’t be able to face himself in the future!

Again, he repeated, “Who else dares to marry you?”

Shen Yumo’s fingers turned pale as they trembled and Jiang Ziquan who stood to
the side felt her heart break again.
“Shit,” Jiang Ziquan swore loudly, “Yumo, wait here for a moment.”

Shen Yumo didn’t understand what Jiang Ziquan wanted and watched as Jiang
Ziquan ran over to Chen Lanyi.

Jiagn Ziquan grabbed the flowers that Jiang Zitao had given to Chen Lanyi for their
marriage, took out her household register, and ran back to Shen Yumo.

She smiled at Shen Yumo, and the crowd of onlookers, feeling that something big
was about to happen, rubbed their hands together in excitement.

Jiang Ziquan knelt down on one knee, held out those flowers, the smile still on her
face. However, she had no experience or practice with this kind of thing, so it hurt
quite a bit when her knee hit the ground.

“Yumo, will you marry me?” Jiang Ziquan asked, completely serious. Although she
didn’t know how old this woman was, where she lived, or even what her surname
was but this woman had stolen her heart. If it was impulse telling her to do this,
then she was willing to follow it, and willing to propose even under these
circumstances.

Her voice was not loud, and even carried a slight tremble, most likely because she
was nervous. However, it was enough to pull the heartstrings of every person there.

“Marry her! Marry her!” The crowd chanted in unison. Although they were shocked
by Jiang Ziquan’s actions at first, felt that this was something straight out of a TV
drama, and Jiang Ziquan was the affectionate, second female lead.

Looking at the attractive Jiang Ziquan and then looking at the angry Chen
Ruoguang, even a blind man knew who to choose. And since they were all young
people here to get married, they yelled in encouragement, swept up in all the
excitement.

Shen Yumo felt flabbergasted as she looked at Jiang Ziquan. This was only the third
time the two had met, yet Jiang Ziquan’s eyes were full of sincerity. However, if this
proposal was for her sake, she felt she was unworthy to accept such goodwill.
Shen Yumo made up her mind to refuse, but then Chen Ruoguang shook off Jiang
Zitao’s hand and said, “Shen Yumo, you can’t say yes! You can’t agree!”

On the other hand, Jiang Zitao who just witnessed his sister reckless proposal, felt
that this Yumo was a good match for his sister.

Haah, since my sister likes her, might as well help her out.

“This gentleman, may I ask who are you to control someone like her? She is not
something you have bought.”

“No, NO! She is something I bought!” Chen Ruoguang seemed to have remembered
something and shouted, “Yes, that’s right! Shen Yumo, don’t forget that I spent
200,000 yuan on you! I bought you for 200, 000 yuan!”

Jiang Zitao smiled as he watched the man dig a deeper pit for himself, and held back
this mad men before he could do anything else.

The moment Shen Yumo heard that she was bought by Chen RuoGuang felt so
angered beyond belief, she couldn’t even think rationally anymore. She raised her
eyes to look at Jiang Ziquan’s expectant and anxious look and by the time she
calmed down again, she realized she held a bouquet of flowers in her hands.

“Yumo, y-you, agreed?” Jiang Ziquan found it hard to believe as she looked up at
her fairy.

Shen Yumo felt a bit embarrassed and confused, just why did she accept these
flowers?

“I’m going with you, but where is the ring?”

Hearing this, Jiang Ziquan hurriedly took off the jade that hung around her neck,
stood up and said: “Here, Yumo, this is my proposal token to you.”

She had worn high heels today, so she was tall enough to easily put the necklace
around Shen Yumo’s neck.

To the side, Jiang Zitao facepalmed himself. This stupid sister of his was actually
this serious. She actually gave her precious jade away too.
Chen Ruoguang slumped to his knees with a thud: “I-Impossible.”

Wang Jiajiang (the previous girlfriend) quickly walked over and helped him up,

“Ruoguang, won’t you wake up already? You still have me.”

Personally I think that’s pretty dope, I would gladly have candy instead of a gravy
saucer for a wedding gift.
Received A Wife From The Civil Affairs Bureau Ch.3

Jiang Ziquan didn’t dare to make a single sound, for fear that her fairy might react
and change her mind.

Anyhow, let’s get married first and then figure out the rest.

As she pulled Shen Yumo back into the Bureau, the crowd beside them whistled and
shouted in excitement. For the crowd, this type of cliche ending was just too
satisfying!

“Miss Jiang, you don’t have to pretend anymore.” Shen Yumo spoke as soon as
Chen Ruoguang was out of her sight and she took off the jade that still hung around
her neck.

Although she did need to get married today, Shen Yumo thought everything was
just a farce and didn’t take anything seriously.

“Thank you for helping me.” Shen Yumo handed the jade back to Jiang Ziquan with
a smile.

Jiang Ziquan blinked and her thoughts spinned. They had already stepped in line
and there were only a few more couples in front of them.

Just a little longer, if I can stall a little longer, I might actually be able to do it!

Hastily, Jinag Ziquan said in a coquettish manner: “Yumo, you don’t want to marry
me anymore? I proposed to you only a little while ago!”

Although Shen Yumo didn’t understand what Jiang Ziquan was doing, she was
amused by her antics and couldn’t help but smile and explain, “I really am grateful
for your help in the situation just now, but an important commitment like marriage
can’t be decided upon this carelessly. Furthermore, only one side would benefit
from this relationship.”

“No, both sides would benefit.” Jiang Ziquan frowned and corrected her.
“Ok, fine, even if both sides receives benefits, there are still many reasons why we
cannot get married.” Shen Yumo helplessly continued on.

Jiang Ziquan thought: What else can I do?

Suddenly a flashbulb lit up inside her head, “Ah, Yumo, don’t be like this! During
my proposal my mother was watching at the side, so she expects me to get married
today! Besides, if it doesn’t work out, the law says we can divorce after a year!
Please, just one year and you don’t want to break my mother’s heart, right?”

Shen Yumo blinked. She understood the expectations of parents, and she herself put
significant importance on the prophecy that she needed to get married at the
auspicious time of four today.

As she pondered what to do, they had arrived at the registrar’s desk.

As they stood in front of the desk, Jiang Ziquan suddenly looked at her brother who
stood off to the side. For some reason, today her brother didn’t seem as annoying as
usual and even looked a bit handsome today. The Jiang Zitao who was minding his
own business, sneezed.

“Ladies, please take out your documents.”

“Got it.” Jiang Ziquan’s smile was a bit dazzling as she took out her documents all at
once.

“Have you properly thought this through?” Shen Yumo asked with uncertainty.
Would this young lady really be happy about this type of rushed marriage?

“I did, I did!” Jiang Ziquan replied anxiously, and feeling that her fairy was about to
disappear, she hurriedly took the household registar from Shen Yumo’s hands and
gave it to the staff.

“Excuse me, but who is the one proposing and who is the one accepting?” [1]

“I’m the one proposing and she’s the one accepting.” Although she said that. Jiang
Ziquan felt a little embarrassed that she could say something like that so easily.
The staff smiled at her and stamped twice before saying: “I wish the both of you a
long and happy marriage.”

After that auspicious wedding greeting, Shen Yumo quickly glanced at her watch. It
was exactly four. She then shot a complicated glance at Jiang Ziquan.

“Dang, I actually got married!” Jaign Ziquan felt it was a little unbelievable that she
could actually trick her fairy this quickly into marrying her. As she glanced at the
gentle woman next to her, she felt quite happy.

Then she looked down at her certificate to see her new wife’s full name for the first
time: Shen Yumo.

She muttered the name to herself several times and thought, Such a pretty name.

Perhaps she was the only one in this world to find out her wife’s full name from the
marriage certificate.

On the other hand, Shen Yumo felt like a selfish person. This young lady was kind
and beautiful, but because of her problems, Jiang Ziquan had married someone like
her. Even if nothing happened between the two and they divorced, Jiang Ziquan
would have to bear the stigma of being a divorcee later on.

Jiang Ziquan thought Shen Yumo was still thinking about that Chen Ruoguang, so
she didn’t say anything and tenderly pulled Shen Yumo with her to get their
marriage photos taken.

Jiang Ziquan felt very fortunate that she had bothered to dress up for the wedding
feast late today, so right now she looked beautiful and tempting.

Her wife was wearing a blue trench coat, and she was wearing a beige coat. One had
flaming red lips and bright eyes, while the other looked fresh and elegant. Standing
next to each other, the pair looked quite attractive together.

Jiang Ziquan skillfully clasped her wife’s waist and pulled her in close, although her
wife resisted her a little. Smiling a little mischievously, she prepared for the next
step.

“The two brides over there, please kiss one another.” The photographer asked.
Knowing that her Yumo wouldn’t accept her kiss at this time, Jiang Ziquan
tightened her grip.

She stepped forward, her new wife stepped back in fear.

“Don’t worry, I won’t actually kiss you.” Jiang Ziquan whispered softly into her
ear.

Without waiting for a response, Jiang Ziquan used one had to hold the back of
Yumo’s head and the other to support her shoulder. The camera flashed.

“Congratulations on your marriage.”

Jiang Ziquan’s nose was filled with her sweet scent, and now that it was over, she
was a bit unwilling to let go, but did so in the end.

Shen Yumo felt a little depressed as she walked out. How did she end up marrying
this girl beside her?

“Sister, y-you actually got married?! Won’t you regret it?” Although Jiang Zitao had
witnessed the entire process, he still couldn’t help but feel a little shocked.

Jiang Ziquan waved the little red book back and forth, “Of course I got married.
Now, let’s hurry home and tell mom the good news.” On instinct, she had relied
without thinking but then realized something, and turned to Shen Yumo, “I-I mean,
Yumo, I…”

As a teacher, how could Shen Yumo not  see through that lie? She knew quite well
that Jiang Ziquan’s mother probably wasn’t even there and yet, she still ended up
with this marriage certificate in her hands.

“Brother, I gotta go.” Jiang Ziquan saw Shen Yumo prepare to leave and wanted
hurry after her, but was stopped by her brother.

“Are you the proposing side or the accepting side?” He asked.

Jiang Ziquan turned her head towards him, “Obviously, the proposing side.
Jiang Zitao nodded his head and patted her shoulders, “Then don’t forget that it is
customary for the proposing side to visit your in-laws first after finalizing a
marriage.”

“Oh, you’re right!” Jiang Ziquan had almost forgotten that there was such a thing:
“Thanks! Brother, sister-in-law, I’ll be leaving first.”

“Go.” The two hurriedly waved Jiang Ziquan away, it seemed their little one was all
grown up now.

“What’s on your mind?” Jiang Zitao asked Chen Lanyi who had been lost in thought
for a while now.

“That girl named Yumo. I seem to have seen her from somewhere before?” Chen
Lanyi frowned, she couldn’t pin down where she had seen Yumo.

However, Jiagn Zitao eyes brightened when he heard Chen Lanyi’s words. Jiang
Ziquan had suddenly acquired a beautiful wife, so he knew he would be
interrogated by his parents when he got home. If he had some information on the
girl, then he might be saved from a lecture.

“Quickly, think hard. Where have you seen her?”

“Aren’t I thinking hard right now? Why are you hurrying me for?”

“Ah, this kind of beauty, one that you don’t see everyday, must have left an
impression. How can you not remember?”

Chen Lanyi snapped her gaze at him and glared, “What did you just say?”

Jiang Zitao immediately knew something was off and apologized in a hurry, “Wife,
I was wrong, please forgive me.”

“Hmph, who would want to be your wife?”

The two went home in a noisy, but festive manner.

Jiang Ziquan saw Shen Yumo call a taxi, and hurried after her: “Yumo, where are
you going? I can send you home.”
Suddenly, Shen Yumo’s cell phone rang, and when she answered it, the crying
sounds of a female voice could be heard.

Shen Yumo frowned: “Mom, is something wrong?”

“Yumo, answer me, did you really not marry Chen Ruoguang?”

Shen Yumo paused for a moment: “Yeah.”

“Y-You unfilial daughter! How could you disregard your grandfather’s words like
that!?”

Shen Yumo glanced at the person next to her, bit her lip and said: “I did get
married.”

But the person in question is not Chen Ruoguang.

“W-What did you say?” The voice’s volume suddenly increased.

Shen Yumo continued: “I’ll explain it to you when I return.”

Next to her, Jiang Ziquan could guess that the voice was her mother-in-law.
Naturally, she must be angry. Her daughter had suddenly married a random
woman, so other than her own oddball of a mother, Ms. Liu Yun, at home, any other
mother would be distressed.

“Let me send you back.” Jiang Ziquan repeated.

“Ok, thanks.”

In any case, being able to send Shen Yumo home was already a big step forward for
their relationship.

Predicting the fact that her mother would bombard her with calls later, Jiang Ziquan
turned off her phone as she got in the driver’s seat. Anyways, she wanted to talk
with her fairy as well.

However, the Shen Yumo who sat in the passenger’s seat, felt exhausted. After all,
the events that happened today was enough for her to deal with in one lifetime.
“About earlier, I, um, didn’t mean to lie to you. Sorry.”

Jiang Ziquan knew that starting a relationship with a lie would be detrimental, so
she quickly apologized. After all, she still wanted to chase after this fairy!

Shen Yumo pondered for a while, before she realized that Jiang Ziquan was
apologizing. In fact, it should be her apologizing to Jiang Ziquan, for dragging this
innocent girl into her mess.

“No matter. Instead, I want to thank you for helping me today.”

“Ah, no problem.” Jiang Ziquan then glanced at her, turning her head to face Shen
Yumo and asked, “So what are you going to do now?”

T/N Notes:

[1]: Ok, although in China same-sex marriage isn’t actually legal, let’s pretend that it
is. In this case the registar is asking for paperwork purposes because the one who
proposes, usually the man, has his wife registered under his household. You know
the idea that “married women are like spilled water” , how they are no longer part
of their father’s household once they marry over. At least that’s my understanding
of it, correct me if I’m wrong.
Received A Wife From The Civil Affairs Bureau Ch.4

Shen Yumo tilted her head and pondered for a while: “I was just too impulsive this
time, so I think it would be for the best if neither of us mention this ‘marriage’ ever
again. Then we’ll divorce after one year.”

This year marked the third year anniversary for the legalization of same-sex
marriage. So in order to protect the legitimate rights and interests of homosexuals,
one may divorce one year after the marriage.

However Jiang Ziquan was unwilling to divorce. She had spent so much effort to
obtain this marriage certificate, so why would she want to give up their marriage?

Thinking quickly, she muttered to herself before saying, “Yumo, as adults I think we
should take responsibility for our actions. By now my mother must’ve been
informed about our marriage and your parents have been as well, so for their sakes,
we should treat this like a proper marriage. Otherwise, think of the pain both our
parents will feel. Furthermore, I’m single and live alone, so it’ll be easy for us to
move in together.”

She had just said whatever came to mind, but Jiang Ziquan herself knew that she
had just rambled off and made absolutely no sense. However, she didn’t know what
else to do as she nervously gripped the steering wheel.

Shen Yumo glanced at Jiang Ziquan with suspicion. She wasn’t stupid and she
understood that Jiang Ziquan was most likely trying to trick her again, but Jiagn
Ziquan’s words wre somewhat resonable.

Due to this absurd marriage, their parents would have become affected as well.

“Other than the part about moving in, I’ll agree to treat this like a proper marriage.”

Jiang Ziquan felt her heart ache as the most important part of her plan was rejected,
but at least they had made some progress, so it was better to retreat for now before
bringing it back up again.
As she continued to drive, Jiang Ziquan felt like she vaguely recognized the area.
Suddenly, she remembered that her friend, Lin Cuo, lived over here. She
remembered Lin Cuo telling her that their house was getting demolished soon. With
this thought, Jiang Ziquan formed another plan in her head.

“Yumo, is your building within the area that’s about to be demolished?” Jiang
Ziquan glanced at the street sign. If she was correct, this should be the older part of
town, it’s roads were broken and it’s houses slightly worn down.

“Eh, it will be demolished this December.” Shen Yumo didn’t know why Jiang
Ziquan mentioned this, but this caused her to remember Chen Ruoguang. She had
received monetary gifts from Chen Ruoguang to help her out with this dilemma, but
now she had to return it to him. Thinking back to what Chen Ruoguang had said
earlier, she felt a little angry.

As Shen Yumo’s expression darkened, Jiang Ziquan thought she had said something
she shouldn’t have. So, she didn’t dare to talk anymore and focused on driving.

Shen Yumo’s building was in a relatively remote place and in the southern part of
the city. Jiang Ziquan rarely drove to this part of the city. She only visited Lin Duo’s
house two or three times because it was just too far.

Yet, the environment here was actually quite nice and peaceful. It reminded her of
Shen Yumo, warm and gentle. The traffic wasn’t that bad here too, even though it
was rush hour.

Jiang Ziquan’s heart seemed to have calmed down, and she unconsciously slowed
down her driving so she could enjoy the cozy scenery.

They arrived at the building’s parking lot and Jiang Ziquan squinted as she glanced
up at the old building. It had 15 floors, Shen Yumo’s apartment was on the 12th
floor, but Jiang Ziquan felt queasy at the thought. She disliked the elevators,
especially the claustrophobic feeling they gave her whenever she used one.

Shen Yumo stepped out of the car and patiently waited for her.
According to the traditional customs, as the side proposing the marriage, Jiang
Ziquan had to meet her parents. Since she agreed to Jiang Ziquan’s earlier plan, she
naturally had to follow through with it.

Seeing Shen Yumo wait for her, Jiang Ziquan was secretly happy in her heart as she
followed behind.

Nearby, a few relatives had also arrived, some carrying gifts. This made Jiang
Ziquan realize something. How could I forget? I’m seeing my in-laws for the first time,
naturally I must provide gifts.

“Yumo, wait here for second.”

After this one sentence, Jiang Ziquan ran back to the car. If she remembered
correctly, there should still be some wedding gifts that were for her brother in the
trunk. Opening it, she indeed saw a bunch of gifts laying there.

However, Jiang Ziquan was only able to carry a few with her, including some wine,
skin care products, and other health products.

Jiang Ziquan had originally bought the skin care product for her sister-in-law and it
cost her about two months worth of her salary. With how expensive it was, it was
guaranteed to make her new mother-in-law happy.

Shen Yumo watched Jiang Ziquan stumble over with a pile of things, and hurried
forward to help her.

Jiang Ziquan stopped her: “Don’t worry, I can carry these little things by myself.”

She wanted to show her in-laws that she was truly serious about marrying their
daughter, so she insisted on personally carrying them in herself.

“Isn’t this a little much?” Shen Yumo ignored Jiang Ziquan’s stubbornness and
ended up helping to carry some of the marriage gifts. Although bringing gifts was a
custom, this was a little too much because there would be a later date specifically set
aside for exchanging the big gifts.

Seeing Shen Yumo being this stubborn, Jiagn Zhiquan could only pout: “Some of the
ones in the car were too heavy, so I could only carry these little trinkets.”
Shen Yumo helplessly glanced at her and then stepped into the elevator.

The moment she stepped into the elevator, Jiang Ziquan became a sleeping tiger.
She stood quietly in the corner, looking extremely uncomfortable.

Fortunately there weren’t too many people in the elevator and they arrived on their
floor quickly.

Jiang Ziquan had to take several deep breaths before she felt at ease again.

However, she was about to meet her in-laws, so she couldn’t help but be a little
nervous. She tightened her grip on the gifts and then glanced at Shen Yumo who
had no expression on her pretty face.

To be able to raise a daughter with such a good temperament, they must be incredible
parents.

In front of the door, Shen Yumo took out a silver key and the door opened with a
satisfying click.

“Yumo, you’ve returned.” The moment the door opened, they could hear Shen
Yumo’s mother followed by the sound of slippers shuffling against the hardwood
floor. Although the voice sounded apprehensive and full of expectation, there was
no trace of anger.

Before Jiang Ziquan could walk in, her mother-in-law had appeared. She hurriedly
took out a gift: “Greetings mother-in-law, I am Jiang Ziquan.”

Her entire face was flushed red.

Shen Yumo looked strangely at Jiang Ziquan. This person had assumed her role a
little too quickly.

Mrs. Shen felt a little embarrassed, after all this was her first time meeting Jiang
Ziquan, but nonetheless invited her in. Although she looked a bit like those
homewreckers in a TV Drama, Jiang Ziquan was quite pretty.

Jiang Ziquan had no idea that her mother-in-law’s first impression of her was that of
a good-looking homewrecker.
Mrs. Shen glanced at her daughter, then accepted the gift before speaking
nervously, “L-little Jiang, quickly come in.”

“Thank you Mrs. Shen.” Jiang Ziquan nodded and entered Shen Yumo’s home. She
had thought her mother-in-law would try to beat her up, but this Mrs. Shen wasn’t
even angry! Maybe it was because of an occupational disease or
something (TN: disease or disorder that is caused by the work or working
conditions; Jiang Ziquan probably assumed that she was too tired because of work
or something).

Jiang Ziquan looked around at the interior decorations. It was decorated in a

traditional style reminiscent of Ancient Chinese courtyards, with a scroll hanging in
the middle that said: “Obey one’s destiny.” Even the furniture had classical, yet
olden feel about it, and there were numerous drawings of the Yin-Yang symbol
pasted on the walls.

It was not difficult to tell that the original designer of the house was obsessed with
ancient Chinese culture. Every corner showed off the designer’s skills and as
someone with a similar hobby, she thought the designer must have been a skilled
one.

“Little Jiang, have a seat.” Mrs. Shen set the gifts down and then pushed Jiang
Ziquan to sit down next to Shen Yumo.

On the dining table were some home-cooked dishes and a bottle of wine. Maybe it
was because it was prepared for Chen Ruoguang, the wine didn’t look cheap.

Seeing that the atmosphere was a little awkward, Mrs. Shen poured a glass of water
and handed it to Jiang Ziquan, “Mr. Shen is out on a walk, he should be back soon.”

“Thanks.”

Shen Yumo looked worried, “Is father feeling better today?”

Mrs. Shen looked at Jiang Ziquan before she replied, “En, he was feeling a lot better
in the afternoon.” Other than the pink highlights in her hair and her choice of
clothing, Mrs. Shen felt that after taking a closer look, this Jiang Ziquan was really
not bad.
“Is Mr. Shen feeling uncomfortable?” Hearing all this, Jiang Ziquan felt that it would
be better if she asked honestly. Who knows, maybe she could help.

“It’s an old illness, nothing to worry about.” Mrs. Shen looked a little apologetic as
she replied a little too fast.

Jiang Ziquan didn’t understand what was going on and secretly looked over at Shen
Yumo. Compared to her mother, Shen Yumo was more calm.

Click.

As soon as the door rang, Mrs. Shen stood up in a hurry, her eyes full of smiles: “Mr.
Shen has returned.”

Jiang Ziquan also stood up, feeling a little bit more nervous now.

Shen Shizong had seen the extra coat on the rack and knew that her daughter
returned, most likely with her marriage partner as well. This caused him to sigh
softly.

Mrs. Shen gave him a rebuking look: “Are you feeling better?”

“Much better.”

Shen Shizhong’s voice was clear and powerful, and didn’t sound like someone with
a chronic illness. He glanced at his wife, then walked in by himself.

Shen Shizhong was very thin overall, you could see the bones protruding from his
frame. His hair was completely white and his eyes were sunken. Standing next to
Mrs. Shen he looked 10 years older than his spouse.

Jiang Ziquan felt a little shocked looking at the pair. Maybe she’s his second wife or
something.

“Hello, Mr. Shen.” said Jiang Ziquan.

“Hello.”
Seeing his response, Jiang Ziquan couldn’t help but smile. They weren’t angry, so
did that mean they agreed with this marriage?

Were all parents nowadays this open minded?

Then thinking about her own mother, she realized it wasn’t that rare.

Shen Yumo frowned slightly and said in a worrying tone, “Dad, it’s cold outside
and the air is not good, so it’ll be better if you stay at home to rest.”

Shen Shizong waved his hand in an unconcerned manner and had Mrs. Shen pour
him a glass of wine.

Mrs. Shen also poured a glass for Jiang Ziquan, held out the glass but then paused.
Jiang Ziquan looked around the same age as her daughter, so she didn’t know if
Jiang Ziquan could handle such a strong wine.

“Thank you, Mrs. Shen.” Jiang Ziquan didn’t want to leave Mrs. Shen in an
awkward situation and accepted the glass. She knew how to calmly diffuse
situations like these, for how else would she be able to successfully manage a hot
pot restaurant?

Both Mr. Shen and Mrs. Shen smiled as they felt this girl was quite smart at reading
the situation.

Mr. Shen took a sip and turned to Jiang Ziquan: “What do you do for a living?”

Jiang Ziquan felt embarrassed as she scratched her neck. It seemed like the first
round of questioning the new daughter-in-law had begun, “I studied interior design
in college and I usually help design a few of my friend’s houses. I also own a hot pot
restaurant that I manage when I’m not busy.”

“Not bad.” Mr. Shen praised, he liked these types of people who weren’t too greedy
about money but also knew how to make money when needed to.

Jiang Ziquan smiled at the praise, although she would’ve been happier if it had
come from Shen Yumo’s mouth.
Received A Wife From The Civil Affairs Bureau Ch.5

Shen Yumo felt a gaze on her and looked over, her eyes coincidentally meeting Jiang
Ziquan’s.

Noticing this, Jiang Ziquan quickly flashed a big smile and Shen Yumo nodded
slightly. Just this simple communication between the two made Jiang Ziquan’s heart
leap with joy.

“So where do you live, Ziquan? Who else is in your family?” After exchanging a few
words, Mrs. Shen’s attitude towards Jiang Ziquan completely changed. Mr. Shen
also looked at Jiang Ziquan with an expectant look in his eyes.

“Both my parents are still alive and I have an older brother who also got married
today.”

“Really? Then today, two happy occasions have occurred for your family.” Mrs.
Shen said sincerely.

“Yes, and my brother should be at his in-laws’ house right now as well.” Jiang
Ziquang replied with a smile.

“Good, good, good.” For Mr. Shen to repeat the word ‘good’ three times in a word,
one can obviously tell how good his mood is.

“My parents live on Fuxiang street, but I live alone near Mingxing in order to

manage my restaurant.” Jiang Ziquan continued in excitement, the meeting today
with her in-laws was a success and she emphasized the part where she lives ‘alone’.

“Mingxing? Yumo teaches at Mingxing High school, this must be fate!” Mrs. Shen
was overjoyed, she felt that this marriage was like a match made in heaven.

So it turns out she’s a teacher at Mingxing.  Jiang Ziquan’s eyes brightened, this meant
there would be more opportunities for them to meet in the future. I don’t believe that
I can’t win this fairy’s heart!

“Yumo, you should visit Ziquan when you’re free.” Mrs. Shen said earnestly.
Shen Yumo glanced at the Jiang Ziquan whose eyes were practically glowing and
nodded: “I will, mother.”

“Mrs. Shen, my parents would like to meet the two of you so when you’re available,
please give them a call.” Jiang Ziquan said shamelessly.

“We have plenty of time, whatever is most convenient for your parents.” Overall,
Mr.s Shen felt very satisfied. In the first place, if the other party’s parents didn’t get
angry it was already a good outcome. For somebody’s daughter to suddenly marry
a random, of course, any parent would be disgruntled, so the Shen family was fully
prepared to apologize.

After all, it was the Shen family who let down the Jiang family.

Jiang Ziquan, on the other hand, was quite eager to share the news, now that the
wedding was guaranteed to happen.

After dinner, Shen Yumo escorted Jiang Ziquan out the door. Walking next to each
other, the two looked like the perfect pair.

“Yumo, are you free tomorrow? Would you like to meet my parents?” Jiang Ziquan
fidgeted with her scarf, feeling nervous. Although she could calmly face Shen
Yumo’s parents, she was cautious with Shen Yumo.

Shen Yumo felt that this entire marriage was completely absurd. However, she
remembered that the person who sacrificed the most wasn’t her, but this energetic
girl in front of her. Her expression darkened as she thought along these lines.

Jiang Ziquan was quite sensitive to Shen Yumo’s subtle reaction, and immediately
noticed the change in her expression. Thinking that the fairy didn’t want to meet her
parents, Jiang Ziquan was slightly disappointed but she expected it. After all, Shen
Yumo wanted to forget this whole affair, so it was quite normal for her to refuse
Jiang Ziquan’s offer.

“Nevermind, it’s fine. I’ll do whatever you want to do.”

Suddenly Shen Yumo looked at her and smiled. A gentle smile, with a hint of
mischievous behind it, “I’ll be free in the afternoon.”
Jiang Ziquan stopped and stood there stunned, looking stupid as she stared at the
fairy’s blinding smile. Furthermore, besides the fairy’s soothing and healing smile,
she had actually agreed.

Perhaps she was afraid that Shen Yumo would change her mind, Jiang Ziquan
quickly trotted up to her, a big smile on her face.

“Wait a minute.” Shen Yumo didn’t know why this girl was so happy all of a
sudden, but she felt her mood improve as well.

“What’s wrong?” Jiang Ziquan asked, her smile faltering.

Shen Yumo unclasped the jade that hung around her and held it out towards Jiang
Ziquan. The jade seemed very valuable and the owner seemed to treasure it
immensely. Shen Yumo hated taking advantage of others and especially hated
taking someone’s treasured item.

With the jade lying in her palm, she said nothing as she looked at Jiang Ziquan.

Does the fairy still want to return the betrothal token?  Jiang Ziquan pouted and then
quickly reached out, grabbing Shen Yumo’s hand. The hand was slightly cold but
felt good to touch: “Since the proposal was hasty, I could only use the jade in place
of an engagement ring and since we’re both still married, keep it for now. In a few
days, I will buy an engagement ring and exchange it with the jade.”

Just now, Jiang Ziquan acted like a ‘rogue’[1] but she will never admit it.

“No need.” Shen Yumo frowned and shook her head. She did not mean to return the
jade for an engagement ring.

Jiang Ziquan pretended not to hear anything, turned around and ran, waving her
hand:

“See you tomorrow.”

Shen Yumo watched her go, thinking this girl is quite funny.

“Plain Water [2], why are you over here?” Lin Cuo wiped the sweat on her forehead,
feeling exhausted. She was designing her new home when all of a sudden Jiang
Ziquan texted a message through WeChat.

“Shang Qu Road, Jianmin Community Garage, license plate number 2333, come quickly.”

At first, Lin Cuo was at a loss for words because although this friend of hers had an
unusual temper, they called her if something important happened. Thinking that
this was a bit strange, she tried to call back, but unexpectedly, the other’s phone was
turned off.

So with no other choice, she ran over to the place indicated in the message.

“Forest Flower, I have a secret to tell you.” Jiang Ziquan’s eyes glittered and her
smile was dazzling, so obviously she was in a good mood.

Lin Cuo felt helpless towards this friend of hers. They were university roommates
and they’ve known each other for ten years now. Naturally, Lin Cuo knew that
something extremely good must’ve happened for Jiang Ziquan to be this happy.

However, both of them had very different definitions of ‘happiness’ so she didn’t
know if what happened will be worth the trouble. Yet, despite their polar opposite
personalities and ideals, they got along well.

They even called each other by nicknames. Jiang Ziquan called her “Forest Flower”
and she called her “Plain Water”

“Alright, tell me, what’s the secret?” Lin Cuo got into Jiang ZIquan’s car, sighing.

“HeHe.” Jiang Ziquan smirked a few times, and her expression became twisted by a
smug smile. “Did you know that I met a fairy today? A fairy.”

Lin Cuo shook her head, speechless. How boring. So she ran all the way here just for
this. Wait, wasn’t this girl into boys?

“Hey, why aren’t you saying anything?” Jiang Ziquan asked curiously.

“So you met a fairy. Then what happened?” Lin Cuo rolled her eyes but not wanting
to burst her friend’s bubble, motioned for her to continue.
Jiang Ziquan glanced at her, then looked away, then glanced back again.

If Jiang Ziquan’s brother was here, he would say: “Did your eyes pull a tendon or
something?”

However Lin Cuo was different, she only became more curious after seeing her
friend’s behavior.

Jiang Ziquan took out the little red book, the corners of her mouth lifting: “And then
I got married.”

“What?!” Lin Cuo’s eyes widened in shock and she snatched the book and began
flipping through it.

“Both of the aforementioned parties, Miss Jiang Ziquan, and Miss Shen Yumo, agree
to this marriage. Under the state’s jurisdiction, both parties shall share a legal
marriage relationship. Marriage officialized in year 8102, November 10th, 4:00 pm.”
Lin Cuo read aloud in disbelief. [3]

Jiang Ziquan smirked: “Doesn’t my Yumo look like a fairy?”

“You’ve only met her today and then you got married?” Lin Cuo carefully studied
the woman’s picture. Although the fairy was indeed a beautiful woman, this was
not the point they should be focusing on.

Jiang Ziquan nodded.

Lin Cuo looked at Jiang Ziquan like she was looking at an idiot. How come this fool is
becoming more and more unreasonable?!

Jiang Ziquan also knew that this matter was too absurd, but the situation at the time
caused her to act and although it was on impulse, she did not regret it.

Then she simply told Lin Cuo the details of the proposal and marriage.

Lin Cuo took a long time to digest Jiang Ziquan’s story. In her opinion, Jiang Ziquan
did have a right to be angry at the man and was rash in deciding this was ‘love at
first sight’, but what worried her was Shen Yumo. This woman named Shen Yumo
seemed to have changed her mind too quickly.
“Aren’t you afraid that this woman is lying to you?” Lin Cuo threw the book back at
Jiang Ziquan. She knew her friend had a kind heart, and wouldn’t stand idly at a
woman in trouble, but she was worried that Shen Yumo was tricking her friend.

“I’m not afraid.” Jiang Ziquan shrugged indifferently and then paused before
saying, “It’s a path I chose to take, so I won’t regret it nor will I be afraid of it.”

These serious words coming from Jiang Ziquan who wore a serious expression was
quite convincing. Lin Cuo wanted to say a few more words to persuade her friend
but held back after hearing this.

“Oh, I need to stay at your house today.”

“Huh? Why?”

Jiang Ziquan explained: “My brother’s marriage also got officialized today so I bet
he’ll take me out to celebrate all night. If he does that, I won’t be able to come back
here in time.”

“Alright,” Lin Cuo nodded and then said, “did your parents agree to this
marriage?”

“They did. Although the strange part is that the fairy’s family agreed to.”

Jiang Ziquan was not stupid. Not only did she ruin the fairy’s original wedding, but
she had also married the fairy herself. Naturally, the parents should be angry but
they treated her like a daughter-in-law instead. It didn’t even surprise them, as if
they expected this to happen.

Lin Cuo thought for a while and then frowned: “There seems to be something fishy
going on. Protect your money and draw up a prenuptial agreement. That way you
won’t be deceived and dragged into ruin.”

Previously, Jiang Ziquan had gone with the flow, but now that she thought it
through, it really was a little strange.

Soon, the two of them arrived at Lin Cuo’s house.

Lin Cuo gave her friend some fruit to snack on, then asked her what she wanted to
eat. After all that happened today, she doubted that this glutton had enough to eat.

“Anything is fine, as long as there’s some wine with it.” Jiang Ziquan was in a
happy mood and took out a cigarette, skillfully lighting it.

“No smoking.” The Lin Cuo who smelled the smoke from a mile away called out to
her.

“Alright.” Jiang Ziquan stood up and walked to the balcony, blowing out a puff. She
turned on her phone and looked through the barrage of missed calls. 42 missed calls
from her mother, 20 from her father, 21 from her brother, and even 15 from her
sister-in-law. It seemed like everyone was getting anxious.

Jiang Ziquan was preparing to call her mother when the other side called first.

Jiang Ziquan smiled, leaned on the balcony’s railing, and answered the phone:
“Hey, Mom.”

“Ziquan, did you really get married? What’s the girl’s name? What do they do for a
living? Who are her parents? Ah, your mother doesn’t care if the other is the same
sex, so don’t worry there. When are her parents willing to meet to discuss the
wedding?”

Mrs. Jiang had so many questions, but Jiang Ziquan was thinking about Shen Yumo
and didn’t listen.

“Hello? Can you hear me? Ziquan?” Mrs. Jiang looked down at her phone to make
sure she was still on call with Jiang Ziquan.

“Yes, mom, I married today. Her name is Shen Yumo. She is an amazing person.”
When talking about Shen Yumo, Jiang Ziquan’s expression softened, and her face lit
up with joy.

Mrs. Jiang paused, then feeling relieved said: “Finally, my daughter has someone
she likes. This is great.”

“I’ll take you to see her tomorrow afternoon. Make sure you and dad behave
tomorrow.”
Mrs. Jiang laughed and teased, “What are you so afraid of? That I’ll bully the person
you like? Don’t worry, I’m so happy right now that I can’t see straight.”

Jiang Ziquan took another puff of cigarettes, “Alright, that’s all for now. Bye, mom.”

[1]: rouge (耍流氓) means to play tricks, scam or tease a woman. Usually used to
describe a male.

[2]: Plain water and Forest flower: Lame code names they gave each other. A pun on
their names, for example ‘Lin’ means Forest.

[3]: Year 8102: Ok, but really it’s going to take 6000 years for gay marriage to be
legalized? Wtf. original text: (时间 8102 年 11 月 10 日 16 点整) If I mistranslated,

The following message is brought to you by Riptide’s lack of faith in humanity.

Sidenote: Haha, I wish that gay marriage was treated like this in actual Asia and
well, I guess everywhere in general. Both parents are all like: “My daughter got
married to another female? Welp, that’s chill, now on to our regular daily lives.”
Like what? But then again, everything in fiction is better than the real world.
Hahaha… Riptide’s lack of faith in humanity has just increased by 100.
