Psychology Graduate

Mental health struggles are real.

Mental health is a
public health
concern.

Mental health challenges are

not random.
Mental health reality in the Ph
Resources are scarce.
In 2021, 3 to 5 percent of the total health budget
(210.2 billion) was designated for mental health.

However, of the 296.3 billion budget for the health

sector in 2023, only 2.1 billion is allocated for mental
health programs. So, that is roughly 0.7 %.

The shortage is made worse by

Examples of Stigma in the Ph
1. A person seeking help from a psychiatrist or
psychologist may be associated with being
"crazy" already.
2. There are roles in families and communities that
prevent a person from acknowledging the need
for mental health care.
3. There are times when faced with a crisis or a
problem, advice such as "Itulog mo lang yan,"
"Itawa mo lang," or "Iinom mo lang yan," are
common.
