Cost of Fare

It is troubling to think about the problem regarding the imminent return of

Face-to-Face (F2F) Classes in November at the same time as the ballooning Inflation
Rate this year which has greatly worried the students of Pamantasan ng Cabuyao
(PnC).

From the Inflation Rate that dropped 4.5% last year, it increased and reached
more than 6.1% this June. The increase in the Inflation Rate has caused an increase in
fares in public transportation which can affect the learning of students especially in the
middle of the pandemic we are facing.

"It was hard to adjust to the sudden increase in fare price from 20 pesos to 25
pesos. Although it was only a 5 peso increase, you can buy many items with that
amount. Also, if I were to collect 5 pesos from the fare every time I travel to PnC, I
would gain a hefty amount of money," according to Magilyn Manalo, a student at PnC
that was affected by the fare price increase. We can conclude that the fare price
increase was a real issue for the students. Instead of allocating the cost of the fare
increase for something more necessary in school, it goes to fare expenses.

If we look at it from a broader perspective, we will know that not all PnC students
are Cabuyeños or live in Cabuyao, but there are a few who live in other parts of Laguna,
or in other places. Associated with this is the huge cost that awaits students in the
upcoming f2f which is accompanied by an increase in fares and prices. We cannot deny
that public transportation is what students expect to get to school so this is a big blow
because it is not the only thing they spend money on as most PnC students depend on
their parents for most of the time are minimum wage earners who earn just enough to
meet daily needs.
Although the cost of public transportation has gone up, we can't criticize the
drivers because they are merely following market price increases and rising gas prices
brought on by the inflation that is affecting our nation.

It is clear that the government is doing nothing to address the issue of rising fares
and prices. Although they have provided assistance in the past, it has only been
temporary and will not completely solve the problem we are currently facing. Perhaps
the government can provide a solution to the problem of high fares, such as determining
how to reduce the price of oil and gasoline, which is the cause of the increase in fares.

In conclusion, we can see that the increase in fares has shown us that we do not
need to rely on others, particularly our government, which does not take action and
focuses on such issues. Rather, it has taught us that we must be independent and not
rely on the actions of others, as this will only bring us little help but many problems. We
must stand on our own two feet and not be optimistic.
