SPELLING RULES
Third Person Singular
3. For verbs ending in –y, and before there’s a
consonant, you omit –y and add “ies” to form
RULE #3 the third person singular.
Example:
 carry = carries
 cry = cries
 study = studies
 try = tries
RULE #3
omit “y”
and add
-ies

carry carries
She always carries her books.
RULE #3
omit “y”
and add
-ies

cry cries
John always cries in the mornings.

and add
-ies

study studies
He studies hard for his Math test.

The boy tries to learn how to surf every weekend.
