Q: Watch your video and describe the pacing of the lesson. Also reflect on how pacing
may impact effectiveness of instruction and contribute to/detract from the level of student
engagement.
A: I think that my pacing for this lesson was good for a kindergarten class. I tried to sing my
song a few times to make sure they were familiar with it. This style of instruction I used was a
mix between Orff and Gordon where I taught by wrote and had my students experience the song
by listening and eventually participating in the song. I even had movement involved with my
lesson, so they weren’t sitting during the whole lesson. In the video footage from this lesson, I
can see that my students were actively engaged with my content and participated in my activity. I
introduced the song, then I would ask a specific question, then sing my song again. This process
was crucial for teaching elementary students, especially Kindergarteners. They needed to hear
my song a few times before I had them sing it with me. Repetition is also a necessary part for
teaching these students. I think my pacing of my lesson was right where I needed it to be. The
students stayed engaged and participated in my activity for the whole portion I was teaching.
