1.0 Introduction
This document details the installation instructions for the new EO Genius 2 and includes:
1. How to mount and wire up the EO Genius 2.
2. How to complete the software configuration of the installer section of the device.
3. What the LED colours mean.
It is important to note that the information in this document is subject to change without notice as the EO
Genius 2 product evolves.
2.0 Pre-installation setup
2.1 Connection to a network [LAN]

1. Make sure to provision ethernet cabling from the Main Network or LAN switch to each charger location.
2. An ethernet cable will be required for your laptop for connecting to the LAN and commissioning each charger.

3. When connecting to a company LAN, make sure to have the LAN DHCP IP address allocation range details made
available for the charger network, for example, 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.250 as you will require this for accessing the charger
user interface.
4. The use of a laptop and ethernet cable is required to enable charger commissioning.
2.12 Connection to a newtwork [Wi-Fi]

If Wi-Fi is being used to connect the EO Genius 2 to a 3rd party OCPP server, then before the EO Genius 2 is
installed, it is recommended that the strength of the Wi-Fi signal is checked. If a weak Wi-Fi signal is present,
then there is a chance that the installation of the EO Genius 2 may fail. To check that the Wi-Fi signal is strong
enough please complete the following steps:
1. Utilise a suitable Wi-Fi analyser mobile device app to verify signal stability, strength and interference levels.
2. Connect to the premises Wi-Fi router.
3. Measure data rate and ensure it is greater than 5mbs.
If the Wi-Fi is not suitable, a couple of options exist:
1. Install a 2.4gHz Wi-Fi booster.
2. Use the hard-wired Ethernet option.
3. Request a charger with the 4G GSM internal modem.
3.0 Installation instructions for EO Genius 2
EO Genius 2 with fascia removed.
Remove the EO Genius 2 from the packaging. The fascia should be put to one side and left in its wrapping.
Using a long reach 4mm hex key, loosen the centre two housing securing screws followed by the four outer
screws.

Stepped grommets and charger mounting screws.
1. Power – bottom entry [green].
2. Power – rear entry [green].
3. Ethernet [yellow] + CT clamps [yellow].
On the bottom of the base, pop out the caps from the cable entry holes. Fit the appropriate glands or
stepped grommets for the incoming cables. There are four cable entry holes:

The number of glands required will be dependent on the specific installation requirements of each site.
When fitting the charger to an EO Post, we recommend you use the rear entry aperture as accommodates
wiring through to the post wiring access port.

1. Offer the base of the EO Genius 2 or the enclosed template up to the installation location; make sure the surface is flat and
level. Level the EO Genius 2 base and mark the position of the four holes. Take the EO Genius 2 base away and drill the four
holes. Do NOT drill through the EO Genius 2 base or base screw holes.
2. Attach the EO Genius 2 base to the wall using four screws. Ensure that the base is the correct way up and that it is flush
against the wall.
For uneven surfaces we recommend using the optional backplate.

For installation to an EO Post, make sure all necessary cables have been routed up through the post, secure
the backplate to the post using the fixings supplied within its packaging. Offer up the EO Genius 2 rear case
to the backplate and secure the 5mm hex bolts provided in the backplate fixing kit.

Strip and prepare the power cable and feed into the desired entry point, depending on your installation type.
Here we show the cable routed through the rear for post mounting.
Example of ferrules being used.
For wall mounting, either of the cable entry positions can be used. We strongly recommend the use of
ferrules where multi-strand wires are being used thereby increasing the contact area between the connector
and wire, also reducing any risk of heat generation during operation.
Strip back 30 to 40cm of outer sheath allowing for efficient internal routing.

Feed the other end of the cable into the base EO Genius 2 ready for connection to the charger cartridge.

Secure both the power and Ethernet LAN cables to the rear housing.

Connect the power cables to the front plate of the EO Genius 2. Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver into the
DIN rail terminal to allow the power cable to be inserted. Remove the screwdriver to secure the power cable
in place.

With all cables connected position them so that you can close the EO Genius 2 front plate to the EO Genius 2
rear housing, making sure that no cables are trapped.
Secure the EO Genius 2 cartridge to the EO Genius 2 rear chassis. We recommend starting with the two
centre bolts followed by the four corner ones. Make sure to NOT over tighten these bolts.

Attaching the fascia to the EO Genius 2 can be carried out after all testing is complete.
The EO Genius 2 is now physically installed and the commissioning including connection to the EO Cloud
can now begin.
3.2 Important installation information
Important charger information table.
The installer must select the RCD and earthing configuration by following the current local regulation & best
practices.
Where the EO Genius 2 includes DC leakage protection a Type A RCD can be fitted at the supply, otherwise,
a Type B RCD or equivalent should be used. EO recommends a 40A supply for on 32A charging station.
Overcurrent protection (e.g., MCB) should be installed upstream of the charging station.
3.3 PEN fault detection

The EO Genius 2 has inbuilt PEN fault detection [UK spec]. This is an option that needs to be specified at the
point of ordering. There are no configuration options required for this feature and it continually operates
whilst the unit is powered.
4.0 Wiring connections
Physical connections.
It is possible to configure the EO Genius 2 to connect to TN Networks or IT Networks.
4.1

The phase rotation and grid selection (IT/TN) should be set as per the instructions.
The EO Genius 2 is now physically installed and the commissioning of the charger can now begin.

5.0 Software configuration of the EO Genius (installer only)

The following steps should be taken by the installer to prepare the EO Genius 2 so that it can be connected to
a 3rd party OCPP server or the EO Cloud. The main sequence of steps are as follows:
1. Power on the device.
2. Log in to the charger user interface via the Hotspot.
3. Configure the device parameters.
4. Verify charger connection status.
At this point, the unit is ready to be connected to a 3rd party OCPP server or EO Cloud.
5.1 Initial steps

1. Ensure that the EO Genius 2 is powered up.
2. Ensure that the EO Genius 2 is connected to a local ethernet network, where possible.
3. Locate the device user interface [UI] username and password which can be found in the charger packaging and put them
in a safe place as these are specific to each charge point.
6.0 EO Genius 2 power up

The EO Genius 2 has a status LED on its fron face providing the user with its current status. Below describe
the interpreted LED flas codes.

7.0 Charger comissioning

For the commissioning of the EO Genius 2 an internal user interface is provided. You will need to access each
charger interface to carry out its configuration and update it’s firmware.
Two methods are available for this process, using the charger Wi-Fi hotspot or connecting the charger to an
existing LAN. Both methods are described below.
7.1
Wi-Fi Hotspot
1. On powering up the EO Genius 2, a Wi-Fi hotspot is emitted for 10 minutes by default, allowing a connection to be made
with a laptop web browser.
2. The hotspot name is represented as the charger Hostname, for example, eo-1234567891234.
The password for joining this hotspot can be found on the label found on the inside of the packaging.
7.2
LAN [Local Area Network]
EO reccomend commisioning via LAN.
One or more chargers can be connected to a LAN
If using this method you should consider consulting with your clients IT department for permission to run an IP discovery scan
tool to locate charger IP addresses.
If chargers have been connected to a dedicated router, which provides IP assignment, permission may not be required
however, this should be verified beforehand. We cover the LAN discovery method in more detail later in this guide.
8.0 Getting the charger online
8.1
Wi-Fi Router
Where Wi-Fi is being used to connect the EO Genius 2 online, it is recommended that the strength and
integrity of the Wi-Fi signal be checked before installation. If a poor Wi-Fi signal is present, then there is a
chance that the installation of the EO Genius-2 may fail or certainly be unstable.

It is important to check that the Wi-Fi signal is stable enough and you should complete the following steps
before deciding on the charger location:

1. Utilise a suitable Wi-Fi analyzer, available on mobile devices, to verify signal stability, strength, and interference levels.
2. Connect your device to the premises' Wi-Fi router.
3. Measure the data rate and ensure it is greater than 5mbs.
4. Stand at the charger installation location, locate the router of choice in the device wi-fi list and measure the RSSI [Received
Signal Strength Indicator] value displayed. The ideal value should be below -60 dB.

If the Wi-Fi is not suitable, a couple of improvement options exist.

1. Install a 2.4gHz Wi-Fi booster.
2. Use the hard-wired ethernet option.
3. Request a charger with the 4G GSM internal modem. [connection stability is subject to locality].
8.2
LAN [Local Area Network] connection
If the EO Genius 2 is being connected to a company LAN and the device has been assigned an IP address
from the DHCP server or a dedicated GSM router [if applicable], the charger will automatically communicate
with its destination once an internet connection is established and parameters entered in its UI.
9.0 EO Genius 2 user interface
9.1
The steps below describe how to access the EO Genius 2 interface.

1. Power up the EO Genius 2
2. Using your mobile device or laptop, search for the charger hotspot as described in section [7.1].
9.1.2
The image above shows a typical example of a Genius 2 system connected to a LAN.
Accessing the charger user interface is best carried out when chargers are connected to a LAN as the
connection will not time out.
With your chargers connected and powered up, you should connect a laptop to the same network.
To access the charger interface you can consult the client IT department or run a LAN discovery tool.
You may need to seek permission for this based on the client’s security policy.
You can use a tool or app of your choice otherwise a software tool such as “angry IP scanner” can be used for
this task, which can run directly from a laptop connected to the same network.
We describe this process below using PC software called “Angry IP scanner”.
Charger Interface access using the LAN option

1. Make sure to provision ethernet cabling from the Main DHCP server or LAN switch to each charger.
2. An ethernet cable will be required for your laptop as this will also need connecting to the same LAN for accessing the
charger UI and commissioning.
3. If connecting to a company LAN, make sure to have the LAN DHCP allocation range details made available for the
charger network, this can be obtained from your clients IT department, for example, 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.150
4. For charger discovery on the LAN a software-based IP scanning tool of your choice can be used, alternatively, one can be
made available by contacting EO Charging.
9.1.3
With a laptop connected to the same network as the chargers and the known IP address assignment range
on the network, locate and run the discovery tool.
You are presented with two IP range boxes to fill out. You should enter the known range issued by this network. For example,
this could be a range from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255
With the IP range entered, click “Start”. The tool will scan the network and will display a list of hardware found.
Within the results, you will need to pick out the charger hostnames and their associated IP addresses.

You should note down or export the data required I.E charger hostname and its IP address.
Open a web browser on the connected laptop and type the IP address of the charger you wish to configure
in the search bar. If presented with a security message, select advanced and proceed, which should take you
to the charger UI login screen.
The username required is Installer and the unique password can be found on the inside of the charger packaging.
NOTE Each charge point will have its unique passcode.
9.2 Updating firmware

IMPORTANT - we advise you to update the charger firmware once logged into the charger interface.
Up-to-date firmware is made available on the EO Website product area where you can download and save
the file to your PC. The charger FW version can be seen on the charger UI login page.
You should carry out the update as explained by following the steps described below. NOTE, you should
update the charger firmware while it is connected to a LAN or Wi-Fi router and not when connected to the
charger hotspot. Firmware files should be updated incrementally only, and versions should not be skipped.
1. Navigate to the 'Admin' tab.
2. Select browse to locate the ZIP file you received from EO.
3. With the updater file selected, click on “install update”.
4. The Charger housing LED will alternate GREEN to BLUE signifying an update in progress. Do not navigate away or refresh
the web page while this process is underway. The charger will also go offline during this process.
5. Once the LED returns to its original state you can refresh the page and log back into the charger UI.
The above process should be repeated until the latest firmware has been applied to the charger.
9.3 Connecting via Hotspot [limited time access]
Login page
The method below describes the Hotspot limited access procedure.
Once connected to the charger Wi-Fi hotspot, described in section 7.1 , open your web browser and enter
the Hotspot IP address 10.10.10.1 in the search bar.
If connecting via charger hotspot, enter the charger IP address 10.10.10.1
If via LAN access, use its unique ID or IP address via a web browser.
Either of the above options will take you to its user interface [UI].

The username required is Installer and the password will be the numeric portion of the charger Hostname.
A connection can be made to the charger by accessing its hotspot on charger boot up. The Hotspot will only be visible for 10
minutes allowing you brief access where required. The recommended method is to access the charger UI when it is
connected to a network LAN.
9.3.1
Info page.
Once logged in you are presented with the general Info screen showing such details as:
1. Charger connection status.
2. IP address.
3. Charger Hostname/Serial number.
9.3.2
CSMS page.
1. The charger’s online status will display here once commissioned or connected to a LAN.
2. If you are a CPO and your setup requires a unique OCPP server address path enter it here or leave the default value if
connecting to the EO Cloud. Charger Identity [OCPP name] can be modified and will appear on the back-office platform.
3. Make sure the toggle “Authorisation vai CSMS server” is off for remote authorization via a back office.
4. RFID can be enabled or disabled.
9.3.3
Network page.
1) Network status settings are available here for LAN connectivity. In most applications, DHCP assignment will be required
however Static IP address can also be set by way of the toggle.
2) If connecting the charger using Wi-Fi, the router SSID and password can be entered here.
9.3.4
Installer page.
1. Set the required charger output current
2. Enter your, Name, Company, and email address here, as these are required.
3. Select the phase connection for this charger and save the configuration.
9.3.5
Load balancing.
1. Toggle on /off as required.
2. Set the desired safety margin in Amps.
3. Select static or Dynamic balance.
4. Make sure to enter the site value. This will be the site or Distribution Board load capacity.
9.3.6
Smart charging.
1. A charging profile is enabled by default.
2. This may need to be adjusted to suit clients charging requirements. This setting can only be changed via the charger UI so
any future changes to this setting would need to be amended here.
3. The randomized delay I set to 600s or 10 minutes. This setting forces the charger to offer power to a vehicle anywhere
between 0 and a 10min interval. The value can be amended if required.
10.0 EO Cloud portal setup

A client portal is available, and access is via the EO Cloud web portal.

The EO Cloud provides the client with ChargePoint management and reporting functions.
A web form is available for the client to fill out and request an EO Cloud subscription

11.0 Alternative 3rd Party management platform
If the EO Genius 2 has been configured to connect to a 3rd party OCPP back office management platform,
you should consult with the platform provider for any further configuration and testing procedure
requirements.
12.0 Troubleshooting
UDS error message during configuration save:
12.1.2
Solution: Do not attempt to revert settings input. Navigate to Admin page, go to Service Control, and select
restart SCC client. You will see the Web Portal page refresh for less than a minute, then you will get a success
message.
12.1.3
This error should now be cleared, and input settings can continue.
12.2 Firmware update failure
12.2.3
Possible Issue: You have refreshed or clicked elsewhere in the portal while an update was in progress
12.2.4
Possible Issue: Your network connection has been lost, or you have manipulated the device (plugged in, etc)
while it is updating.
12.2.5
Possible Issue: SCC has failed – restart SCC as in UDS Error above, wait for a confirmation message, and
then repeat the Firmware upload process.
12.2.6

To restart the SCC, go to the Admin page and select “SCC client restart”.
