Touchscreen Monitor configuration to Improve “Press and Hold” event

There is a problem with many models of Touch-screen monitors that doesn’t permit to execute a “press
and hold” action that lasts less than 3 seconds, when performed with the finger on the monitor. If the same
action is performed with the mouse it all works correctly.

It seems the problem is connected to the Windows 7 drivers.

The problem specifically is the following: clicking with a mouse or a finger two events happen:

 Mouse down: on the press event

 Mouse up: on the release event

Using the mouse these two events happen precisely when the movement is performed on the mouse.

Using the finger to tap the monitor there is a different behavior: the “mouse down” event is fired
simultaneously with the “mouse up” event (like a fast “click”) or, if the press action lasts longer, it is fired
with a delay of around 3 seconds.

In this way some interactions like “long tap” are not “seen” by the operative system if the press actions
lasts less than around 3 seconds.

There is a way to decrease this 3 seconds lag time to around 1 second :

1. On Windows 7, access the Control Panel > Pen and Touch

2. Select tab “Touch”
3. Configure here the values as follows:
4. Then select “Press and hold” and then “Settings”. Here move to “Short” both the sliders:

5. Press Ok
6. Then (on the previous window) press Ok and Apply.
