BLOOD CHEMISTRY

LABORATORY/ NORMAL RANGE RESULT CLINICAL

DIAGNOSTIC TEST SIGNIFICANCE

BUN 2.9 – 9.3 mmol/L 3.0 mmol/L

NORMAL

CREATININE 60-115 umol/L  Low levels of

34.84 umol/L creatinine are
associated to
LOW systemic
inflammation, a
hallmark of
cancer cachexia
progression since
the client has
pathologic
fracture on his left
femur secondary
to soft tissue
sarcoma (Argilés
et al., 2019).

SODIUM 135-148 mmol/L

 In cancer
130 mmol/L patients, sodium
is low due to
LOW
emesis or
diarrhea
secondary to
antineoplastic
therapy. But in the
case of the client,
he has not
undergone
antineoplastic
therapy. Possible
cause of his low
sodium is
because of his
recent food intake
that is reduced
due to low
appetite and
current diet
compared to
bewsew3aefore
he was admitted
in the hospital.

POTASSIUM 3.5 – 5-3 mmol/L

NORMAL
4.76 mmol/L

CHLORIDE 98-107 mmol/L

 Chloride is usually
94.5 mmol/L low for cancer
LOW patients who have
undergone
chemotherapy to
treat cancer due
to electrolyte
imbalance. In the
patient’s case, he
has not gone
chemotherapy. It
is his current that
caused his
chloride to be on
low levels.

IONIZED CALCIUM 1.1 – 1.3 mmol/L

1.32 mmol/L Normally the body
HIGH controls the level of
calcium in the blood
very well. High blood
calcium levels in the
body can happen if
the cancer is
interfering with the
control of the amount
of calcium in the
bloodstream. Patient
having cancer in the
bones causes a
release of calcium
into the bloodstream.

ALT (SGPT) Up to 41 U/L 16.70 NORMAL

AST (SGOT) Up to 37 U/L 17.00 NORMAL

COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT

LABORATORY/ NORMAL RANGE RESULT CLINICAL

DIAGNOSTIC TEST SIGNIFICANCE

WBC 4.8 – 10.8 14.80 White blood cells are

HIGH produced in the bone
x109/L marrow, they defend
your body against
infections and
disease. But, when
there are too many
white blood cells, it
usually means you
have infection or
inflammation in your
body. A high white
blood cell count
could indicate certain
blood, bone, tissue
cancers or bone
marrow disorders

HEMOGLOBIN 140 – 170 g/L 96 Anemia is a common

condition of cancer
LOW patients. This is
because cancers
cause inflammation
that decrease red
blood cell production
HEMATOCRIT 0.42 – 0.52 g/L 0.32
