a) What does Mintzberg mean by management as more of an art than science?
Mintzberg developed the notion that management is more of an art and craft than a science,  as
art refers to the creative, skillful, and personal use of knowledge to produce desired outcomes.
It can be learned by constant practice, creativity, firsthand experience, and personal
observation.

b) Explain what the dynamics of management are.

The process of continuously enhancing resources and improving personnel performances is

referred to as management dynamics. Additionally, it can be defined as the way in which a
company oversees and encourages organizational learning, better business procedures, and
strategic management.

c) What does it mean to be “managing over the edge”?

Today's incompetent managers are on the edge of making risky decisions as a result of their
inefficient management techniques and harsh behaviour. As technology advances, it
increasingly dominates managerial tasks. These technologies also have a potential to push
management to the edge.

d) What does Mintzberg believe has changed in management over the decades?  Explain his
reasoning.

In Mintzberg's opinion, the basics of management have not altered through time because
management is a skill and a fundamental human activity rather than a scientific activity that
changes over time.

e) What kind of relationship that Mintzberg believes management and leadership should
demonstrate?

According to Mintzberg, management and leadership are intertwined and shouldn't be

practised separately. The separation of leadership from management is destructive because
managers who don't lead are boring.

f) Mintzberg believes all managers are flawed and yet he knows some managers are more
effective than others. Explain his reasoning.

According to Mintzberg, all managers have flaws, even the successful ones. However, they are
just the people who happened to be right for the circumstance.

1) How did Frederick Winslow Taylor and Henry Ford help to solve worker problems?

In 1908, Henry Ford set out to make the simplest car ever. He was influenced by efficiency
expert Fredrick Taylor. When Taylor was brought in he first time the workers with stopwatches
and noted their every movement. They both introduced the assembly lines in Ford factory which
increased the production of the cars.

2) What world records were broken under the supervision of Frederick Taylor?

 In a famous experiment, he organized a worker who previously carried 12 tons of pig

iron per day to then carry 47 tons, increasing production by 300%.
 Taylor helped the world fastest typist to type even faster. Margret Owen set the world
record at 150 wpm, and Taylor claimed the most of the credit.

3) Identify how Ford in 1913 introduced the assembly line.

The assembly line was created at that same moment, when Ford made his most innovative shift
in 1913. He had the thought that rather than moving the man past the car, why not move the
car past the man. Assembly lines quickly went into operation in Ford's factory and were crucial
for mass production.

4) What were some of the positives and negatives in implementing the assembly line?

PROS

 Excellent for Scaling Up

 Batch Quality and Uniformity
 Benefits From Upgrading Over Time
