Abstract
This study of “Role of Harry Potter and his Associates as standing up with the Power of Good
during the Battle of Hogwarts between the Powers of Good and Evil with reference to the
novel Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling” analyzed the novel Harry Potter
and the Deathly Hallows, to define the roles of individual during the fight situation for Harry
and Hogwarts.
The study examined to find out the answer of the questions that How Harry’s friends, teachers,
and well wishers contributed in his battle against the evil wizard?, What type of consequences
were faced by them? and The role of discrimination in the battle.
The researcher used inductive approach, and used the purely qualitative method of case study.
The researcher used two different sources used to collect data and solve the research problem
which included the primary source of the original text of the novel, and the secondary sources
included the articles, research papers etc. to clearly explain the data conducted for the thesis.
Dialogue analysis and the reviews from accredited researcher, and other point if views by
different writers were used for collecting data.
There are several objectives that the value of friends and friendship in one’s life. Powers of Good
and Evil. Relationship of Harry with his associates. Success became possible with the help of
friends. Difficulties faced in supporting the righteous one. Discriminative behavior of pure blood
wizards toward mud blood wizards.
The main findings of the research are the real value of friendship in one’s life, the way to deal
with difficult situations and never give up, the role of friends, teachers and colleagues in building
up one’s character and motivate someone.
The researcher find out that the main character Harry Potter won his fight against the dark
wizard and his followers not only because of his ability but the power of friends, motivation and
guidance by teachers and support by the family and the parental figures. Harry won his battle by
losing many of his friends, teachers and well wishers, who were killed during the battle of
Hogwarts between Good (Harry) and Evil (Voldemort).
The recommendations the researcher give to the reader in this research, first is never lose hope
and the second is the value of friends and the support, motivation and encouragement by teachers
and family. With the support of associates and the confidence of never giving up can make
someone successful.

Chapter 1: Introduction
1.2 Background
Joanne Rowling, best known by her pen name J.K. Rowling, was born on 31 July 1965 in
Winterbourne village Yate, Gloucestershire, England. She is a British author, screenwriter,
producer, philanthropist and novelist. She is well known by her seven books of Harry Potter
series. She originates the idea of Harry Potter in 1990 when she was in train and was travelling
towards London from Manchester but at that time she was unable to note it down. The books
translated approximately in 80 languages and sold approximately 500 million copies across the
world. The books and movies in series broke many records i.e. the fastest selling book in 24
8
hours, biggest opening in publishing history, largest pre-ordered book and many other selling
records in both countries USA and UK. J.K.
Her book won several awards which contains Andre Norton Award for Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows (2007), Colorado Blue Spruce Book Award (2008), Newsweek Best Book of
the Year (2007). It holds the Guinness World Records for most novels sold in 24 hours in both
U.S. and U.K.
Harry Potter is actually a succession of novels by J.K Rowling, it is based on the series of seven
books Harry Potter and the Philosopher's (Sorcerer’s) Stone (1997), Harry Potter and the
Chambers of Secrets (1998), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (1999), Harry Potter
and the Goblet of Fire (2000), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2003), Harry Potter
and the Half-Blood Prince (2005) & Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2007). The story
in the series of books and novels of Harry Potter puts light on the life of a boy named Harry
Potter born to a family of two wizards James F. Potter and Lily J. Potter. In his childhood his
parents were killed by the one who must not be named and leaved a scar on the right side of
Harry's forehead, which is the sign of Harry's unsuccessful murder attempt by the evil wizard.
The time he spent during his schooling in Hogwarts he encounters both good and evil persons
The Dark Lord divided his soul into 7 different parts, hidden six of which in different magical
objects called Horcruxes while the 7th part of his soul still exists into Harry. Harry along with his
friends and associates started to find the horcruxes and destroy them in order to defeat
Voldemort. The school teaches him about magical arts and the protection from those arts. Harry
as a student learned enough relating to his fight between good and evil from Hogwarts to defeat
the evil powers. At the end, they destroyed all the horcruxes and Harry killed him.
The story of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows revolve around Harry, his two friends Ron
(Ronald) and Hermione and the evil wizard Lord Voldemort. His both friends encouraged him in
every tough and hard situation of his life. The aim of Harry Potter is the death of Harry himself
to defeat Lord Voldemort because Harry is spiritually interconnected with him. Dark Lord wants
to kill Harry, from his death Voldemort loses half of his powers but then he became immortal
and became the head of all the wizards and witches of the magic world.
This study impacts on the peoples who faced consequences to help their fellows. It would coerce
one's friends and associates to motivate their colleagues in their hard or difficult times. The study
is about the difficulties, problems faced by friends, family and other supporters or well-wishers
in the difficult situation, the prove of true value of friendship and the value and encouragement
of a true friend, and also the consequences faced during standing up against the power of evil.
This research study would be effectual, beneficial and prolific results for researcher to work on
this type of topics. This study attracts researcher to further works on the sacrifice for one's friend,
colleague or teammate.
9
The problem is that Harry, both of his best friends and other associates were accompanied with
him in almost every situation of his life, they faced consequences and were effected mostly.
Many of his confederates, teammates, teachers, senior students and others died during the battle
between Harry (good) and Voldemort (evil) in the novel of this series Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows. Those who were in favor of him were mostly killed or lost their lives during
that vary battle against the Dark wizard Voldemort. The solution to the problem is that if one is
in the battle between good and evil, must support and be in the favor of good whether they have
to lost their lives and their beloved one and faced other consequences during that battle. The
support and motivation are the two best thing that one would want in his/her arduous times,
which gives stimulation to accomplish goal and to be succeed in purpose.
10
The problem is focused on the relationships of Harry Potter with his accumulates.
To focus on the success which became possible by the friends and teammates.
It also feature the difficulties faced in supporting the righteous one.
To focus on the discriminative behaviors of upper class or pure blood wizards towards
lower class wizards or mud bloods.

13
chapter ends up with giving the definitions of the key terms used in this chapter and summarize
the following in a systematic manner.
The next chapter Literature Review will further elaborate the things with references of different
writers and their reviews about the topic, in order to understand the things more clearly.
14
The battle between good and evil is everlasting and one of the most common religious, social
and ethnic themes. The battle started from the creation of first human being Adam and still going
on. “Dr. Barnhouse examines the great conflict going on between the powers of good and evil,
he follows the conflict back to the period it started and step by step then he follows its unfolding
to the final battle at the end of the time. He given reference from the biblical truth involving God,
Satan, angels, demons and mankind. (Barnhouse, 1980).The same thing Milton discussed in his
poem Paradise Lost. One of the devastating and ancient battles in the human history between the
two powers of good and evil. The novel DH by J.K.Rowling is also about the battle between the
powers of good (Harry) and the evil (Voldemort). Evil is not the result of evil-minded peoples or
individuals and most of the evildoers are the common peoples. Some peoples used evil means to
achieve what they want, other peoples prove themselves as good, as doing horrible things to their
enemies and make them as bad as they want. (Bell, 2000), same is in the case of the antagonist of
the novel DH, Voldemort who was an intelligent and a good boy not a bad guy by birth but
because of the greed of power of immortality and the racism of pure blooded and mud-blooded
peoples, he became an evil wizard.
In this battle of destruction, several teachers of Harry Potter lost their lives, many well wishers
and father figures also died in this battle, other friends and associates also faced consequences
and lost their beloved ones. Most of the peoples from the school were in support of Harry and his
goal and tried their best to help him as much as possible in order to win the battle of Hogwarts.
From the key keeper Rubeus Hagrid to the Headmaster of the school Albus Dumbledore, mostly
were in his favor and lost their lives standing up with him or the power of good. “Its Harry’s job
to kill Voldemort for several reasons in the final battle take place in the novel DH, where one of
them has to die. One reason is that there is a prophecy according to that prophecy Harry must to
kill Voldemort or Voldemort must kill Harry. Another reason is the revenge of killing Harry’s
Parents and beloved peoples. To kill Voldemort is not an issue of revenge but of self-defense one
of them must kill the other one in order to survive, Harry himself has an inner need to do it,
which obtains from both the need of revenge of his parents and the need to get rid of evil for the
good of wizarding world.” (Baltzar, 2007).
2.2.2 Role of friends and other associates of Harry in the fight of Good and
Evil
The most important characters after Harry are his friends, many of his female friends supported
him or played a mother role in his guidance and in motivating him. His both best friends were
always with him in almost every worst situation of his life. Both of his friends encouraged him to
face every difficult situation of his life and always were behind him whether in happy or sad
situations. Many of his associates and teammates lost their lives and also their cherished ones
only because of him and the defense of the school of Hogwarts. His friends and teammates also
played a vital role in building up his skills and helped him in his victory against the dark wizard.
Many literary critics shared their views on the novel in a different way. They said it is a feminist
novel, novels based on boys etc. the role of females in the novel and they are the role models.
15
She further said that the way both male and female characters of the novel characterized and the
relation between them, their role that how they help Harry. (Mikulan, 2009).
The female characters in the novel plays a vital and worthy role in helping Harry Potter in his
fight, especially Hermione plays an important role, as a friend she helped him in almost every
difficult situation of his life whether it was small problem of myopia or a huge battle of good and
evil. Actually not only Hermione but all those females, who were close to him help him
according to their capacity. (Cordova, 2015). The role of female characters in Harry Potter has
been discussed and focuses on the characters of Luna, Hermione & Ginny that being teenage
girls, how they taken the role of mother for Harry Potter to protect, educate Harry in different
situations of his life. Because of these three girls Harry reached the position of being protected,
nurtured and educated. It also highlights the fact that a girl can play a role of mother as given
examples of these three girls, who plays Harry’s mothers and mothers always protect their
children in every problem and situation. (Fransisca & Mochtar, 2017). The importance of
female characters in the novel DH shows that female is an important member of any society
which changes many shapes and characters. A woman plays a role of a mother, daughter, sister,
wife, friend and supporter at one time, the same is in the case of Harry and his female friends
who helped him in solving his problems and became mothers for Harry.
Fred & George Weasley are discussed as important characters of novel. They played role of
Harry’s family member, they played comical role, always try to entertain others. They were
introduced in the first novel and also in other parts. There roles found to be significant for Harry
Potter, they provides new inventions which come to be helpful for Harry. (Kemila, 2018). They
both were part of the Order of the Phoenix (a group created by Dumbledore to fight against the
evil powers of Lord Voldemort). Fred Weasley was later killed by a Death Eater in the battle of
Hogwarts between Harry and Voldemort.
Characters of both of Harry’s friends Hermione and Ron portray hero and heroine for Harry
Potter in helping in the battle of good and evil between Harry and Voldemort. It further argued
that Hermione is more important in both of his friends because she helped and trained him with
the skills and knowledge about defeating the Dark Lord in his battle with him. Without
Hermione it was nearly impossible for Harry to conquer the Dark Lord. Both of his friends tried
their best to help him to conquer over the Dark Wizard but Hermione is most important in both,
many critics were not agree with his perception about Harry’s friends. (Fry, 2001). Harry and his
friends are the real role models for the new generation peoples and they the best example of a
true friendship for new generation adolescents. Harry and his friends (Ron & Hermione), victory
over the Dark Lord every time with the power of goodness. The powerful relation of friendship
between Harry & his faithful friend Ron or studious Hermione with the problem-solving ability
helped and motivated him for his fight against one of the great wizards Lord Voldemort. (Weisz,
2000). Both of Harry’s friends are the role models and best examples of not only true friendship
but also standing up against the power of evil and the desire to get rid of the evil powers for the
protection of their school. Both the friends were always with him to guide, motivate, support,
encourage and help in onerous circumstances.
16
Another good, humorous and a kind friend of Harry Potter, Rubeus Hagrid (caretaker of keys at
Hogwarts school), from the beginning of Harry’s journey to the end he helped him. Being a
friend of Dumbledore, he also helps Harry in the protection of the school. He was one of the
most trustworthy people of Harry Potter and in the last part Harry Potter and the Deathly
Hallows, during the battle of Hogwarts between Harry (good) and Voldemort (evil) he sacrificed
his life and was killed by a Death Eater. (Vora, 2018).
2.2.3 Role of Harry Potter in the battle between Good and Evil
Harry and his friends withstands against the power of evil and faced consequences and
challenges and lost their beloved ones. They contributed in the society with their characters and
the young readers use them as the example to be motivated, to learn and develops the ability to
recover quickly from failures. Despite of the consequences they were faced in the battle between
the good and evil, which afterwards become the reason of their popularity in the society. (Panos,
2009). Harry Potter is the role model for the new generation because of his power of never
giving up and the desire to get rid of the evil diseases from his magical world. He is also an
example of true student and a good friend as well, he tried his best just to fulfill the task given
him by his headmaster to clean the magic world from the evil and kill the evil wizard Voldemort.
The character of Harry Potter is a motivation for the young generation and also for the students
to get inspired from him. Harry has decided not to go again to Hogwarts, instead the quest his
Headmaster left for him to find out and destroy the horcruxes which keep the Dark lord alive. He
was a faithful student in Dumbledore’s eye that’s why he given him the most complicated task to
do, he was faithful with his task as well that Dumbledore has given him. Harry Potter struggles
for achieving his goal and was ready to sacrifice his life just to complete the task he was given to
protect his school and the magic world from Voldemort. (Vora, 2018). Harry is really an epic
hero because when Harry realized that the war between the good and evil will only finished with
the death of Harry Potter which the dark lord wanted actually. He steps forward to sacrifice his
life for the sake of the safety of Hogwarts and the magic world, He almost lost his life, but at the
end he wake up. At the end the war was conquer by the power of good, in order words Harry
survives and the dark lord Voldemort lost his life. Harry won the battle only because of the
supporters and friends otherwise it was nearly impossible for him. (Pharr, 2016). Harry Potter
proves not only the ways that he overcome over his terrifying childhood but also became more
and more stronger after facing very difficulty. Even at the end he saves the Wizarding world with
the help of environment and the friends and associates he had. The novel also reflects the
development of child with the help of Harry Potter’s resilient character. (Spector, 2009).
Harry Potter cope with more deaths than any other character in the novel. He loses his parents,
his godfather, mentor, many classmates, precious friends like, some other creatures and many
other who were close to him and ever helped him. All of these killed by the Dark Lord and his
followers (death eaters) because they were close to Harry Potter. She further said that Voldemort
is similar to Hitler who only liked peoples on the basis of their race, same is in the case of the
Dark wizard, who only like pure blood wizards and witches. Rowling (1997). Harry dealt with
more deaths than any other in the novel, he lost his parents (James & Lily Potter), his father
17
figures namely Sirius Black and Albus Dumbledore, respected and supportive teachers i.e.
Severus Snape and Remus Lupin, associates and friends like Fred Weasley and Rubeus Hagrid,
other creatures such as Dobby (elf), Hedwig (his owl) and many others.
2.2.4 Role of Teachers & family members in the fight against the Evil
Teaching is one of the most important and influencing professions, teachers must enter the
profession with the idea of positively impacting on the young or students. Those who lose their
patience, behave unprofessionally and react inappropriately, have not maintained the level of
performance needs to be an effective teacher in the classroom. If we behave in a rude manner to
others, they certainly behave with us in a same manner, which is totally opposite to our belief
systems (Whitaker, et al, 2013). Teachers also played an important role in supporting Harry in
his battle with the power of evil (Voldemort), many of his teachers died during this war between
good and evil to only make Harry succeed in the battle between Harry and Dark lord. Some
teachers supported him morally and some support him physically by sacrificing their lives for
Harry and the protection of school (Hogwarts).
Dumbledore is a good headmaster, believes in students of his magical school. He prompted his
students to succeed in their every arduous task. He gives enough knowledge or information to his
students and provides tools which helps them to achieve their goals whether in easy or tough
situation. He helped his students in almost every bad situations, they faced in school and
motivate them to conquer over the situation. He helped and showed Harry Potter the way as well
in his battle against the Dark Wizard. The character of Dumbledore actually given a new
perspective or way building students’ credibility and enhance their confidence. (Music & Agans,
2007). Harry was taken care by the great wizard Albus Dumbledore. He was like his spiritual
father who was always there for him to help him and guide for the future hindrances.
Dumbledore guided Harry for pursuing his conquest with the Dark Wizard, Lord Voldemort.
(Demetri Maroutsos, 2019). Harry Potter was under the menace of the evil wizard that he will
not be victorious against the great evil wizard Lord Voldemort, with least chances to triumph
over the great wizard became possible only with the guidance and motivations of Dumbledore
and other teachers which later helped him in understanding the difference between the good and
evil one and to be always aware of the next move of your rival. Harry and his friends followed
their guidance which became the reason of their victory in the great war of good and evil over
Voldemort. Without their supports and contributions for the battle of good and evil, Harry and
his friends or teammates could not taken over the greatest evil. (Ionoaia, 2009).
Prof. Severus Snape’s love towards Lily Potter (Harry’s mother) is the only reason that he
promised Albus Dumbledore for the protection of Harry until his last breath. Severus Snape
personally don’t like James Potter (Harry’s father) and Harry looks like his father and Snape
considered that he has arrogant behavior but it was his love for Lily Potter which forced him to
take care of Harry and his protection until the end of his life. (Szirbik, 2005).
One of the most important characters of Harry Potter novels and the head of Gryffindor house
Prof. Minerva McGonagall, a good teacher with dutiful, rule follower and strict nature but have
18
love in her heart for not only Harry but her every student. She knows about the war going to be
happen, and was worried about it that how many of the students will died or survive in this
bloody war because there where not any person who became the godfather for the students but
still she stands with the Harry and other students till the end of the battle and supported each and
every person related to school and tried her best. Further more McGonagall helped Harry in his
every difficult situation whether related to the study or his personal hurdles, she supported him
(from the day his parents were killed and she was the one who stood beside Dumbledore and
saved him in the house of his only relatives) until the battle he succeed against the Dark Lord.
She with her hidden love and support for Harry, was always walks beside him in his every
situation of sadness and happiness, and felt the same emotions because of the love she has for
Harry. (Gailey, 2017). McGonagall is a kind of women who is strong-willed, strict principled &
emotional too, in other words evil & strict from outside and humble, supportive & caring from
inside. Being a teacher and bounded in rules of school, she did not showed her love and care for
Harry properly but in some extent it can be felt i.e. the situation in which Hagrid carrying
Harry’s lifeless body, she shout out “Someone hold me”(DH, 2010). The sentence shows the
love and support of McGonagall for Harry. (Fremont, 2018).
Along with teachers, friends, teammates, associates and Harry himself there is a huge
contribution of Harry’s family members and father figures in creating his personality to step
forward against one of the great wizards Voldemort. Almost every members in this category
sacrificed their lives for Harry’s victory over the dark lord. Sirius Black given a lot of wisdom,
motivation and inspiration to Harry and his friends. Being Harry’s godfather and one of the
parental figures, he also take part in helping him in the fight against the Dark Lord Voldemort
and his followers (Death Eaters). He said “We are part of you. Invisible for anyone else” (DH),
this line shows that how dead peoples who Harry lost are still standing with him invisibly.
(Hsieh, 2019).
Remus Lupin Harry’s favorite teacher at Hogwarts because of his caring nature that he used to
connect with his students to know them on a human level, try to impart his knowledge and
wisdom to Harry (as being a father figure for him) as well as other students. Dumbledore
believed that he would benefit the students and protect Harry from any danger. Lupin was
murdered by one of Voldemort’s Death Eaters, Antonin Dolohov during the battle of good and
bad between Harry and the Dark lord. He actually lost his and his wife’s life in the protection of
Harry and Hogwarts. (Parker, 2018). Both Sirius Black & Remus Lupin were friends of James
Potter (Harry’s father), they both supported him physically and morally in many situations.
Being Harry’s father figures they tried their best to protect him even they lost their lives in his
security. Harry was protected by Sirius many times in his life and Remus also educated him
through his teachings that how to combat with the situation and that how to protect himself from
others.

The second chapter starts with the brief introduction to the chapter, the chapter is all about the
collection of available but published data by accredited scholars and researchers in the form of
books, ideas, group discussion, dissertations, scholarly articles, research papers and other sources
related to that particular issue or research problem. This chapter is created to give evidence that
various other researchers also works on the different themes and topics related to the same novel.
It helps to get idea about the research topic through reviews of the literature.
The research problem is all about the consequences faced by Harry and his well wishers who
stand up against the evil power in the fight between the good and evil powers. First it gives an
introduction of the conflict between the two big powers, the power of good and evil. The chapter
highlights different characters and their roles for Harry in the battle between good and evil. It
emphasize the female friends of Harry, who played an important role in developing his abilities
to face the dark lord. Two of his best friends who stood with him in almost every small or big
problem of his journey. Some other friend figures who were with him in the battle of Hogwarts
and lost their lives in that battle. It demonstrates the very important role of Harry Potter in the
battle of Hogwarts and how he influence the new generations with his role. Harry being the most
important character or protagonist of the novel, with his unique role became role model for
generations. On the other hand it also described the roles of teachers and some of the father
figures or family members of Harry in the sanguinary fight opposed to the dark powers.
The novel DH is all about the great conflict between the powers of good and evil. It is seventh
and the last novel of Harry Potter series, the whole series is based on the fight between two
wizards Harry Potter (good) & Lord Voldemort (evil). The last part of the chapter summarizes
the important characteristics or features of the research topic for which the reviews of literature
carried out.
The next chapter of Research Methodology is about the research design and research
methodology carried out for the research topic. Its also illustrates the data analysis and data
collection used in the research to make it more clear to the audience or reader that what method
is applied for the research problem.
20
Chapter # 3: Research Methodology
22
A research population is a assemblage of the individuals or groups of people and object which
are focus by the researcher for the purpose of research topic. “A population as the totality of all
subjects that conform to a set of specifications, comparing the entire group of persons that is of
interest to the researcher and to whom the research results can be generalized.” (Polit and
Hungier, 1999:43, 232).
The population used in this research problem is the English society and their discriminative
behaviors towards the lower class or races. The behaviors of the evil characters (pure blood) of
the novel towards the mud-blood (peoples who do not belong to pure blood families). The battle
between good and evil in the novel is based on the racism between the pure-bloods and half-
bloods.
23
1. Primary sources
Primary sources included the original text of the book/novel and the group discussions.
2. Secondary sources
In the Secondary sources the researcher used the research papers, dissertations, literature
reviews, ideas, dictionaries, journal articles and interviews to accumulate information relevant to
the research topic.
24
Content analysis is the study of the communication artifacts between the researcher and the
materials, which might be the texts of various formats. It is used to describe and interpret the
data collected for the research from the various formats of the sources.
The novel Harry Potter (DH) is based on the eternal battle between the two big forces of good
and bad, the discrimination between the forces and the supports from different associates and
teachers during the battle between the forces. In the novel Harry Potter (DH), the roles of
friends, family and teachers are elaborated in a good way, their support during the hard
situations, emotions and their care for Harry.
25
“Until the very end.” (Chap. 34, Pg.700)
When Harry moved to the forest and reached at the edge of the forest he found dementors there,
and thought that he is about to die and when he closed his eyes and turn the stone in his hand
three times, he felt that there are some peoples and when he opened his eyes he found Sirius
Black, Lily Potter, James Potter and Remus Lupin around him. They started to motivate him that
he can do it, he can defeat the evil powers. And Harry asked them that “Will they stay with him
in his fight”. James replied him that we will be there until the end of the battle that you will win
against the evil powers. You will not be visible for them Harry asked them and then Sirius Black
replied him:
“We are part of you. Invisible for everyone else.” (Chap.34, Pg.700)
Sirius Black said that we are always there with you, we are dead for others not for you, we will
be always with you in any conditions. We will be standing with you and will be the part of you
during your battle against He-Who-Must-Not-Be -Named and help you to conquer over it.
“You are the true master of death, because true master does not seek to run away from Death.
He accepts that he must die, and understands that there are far, far worse things in the living
world than dying.” (Chap.35, Pg.720)
Dumbledore told Harry Potter about the true master of death, that those who have powers over
death means who are immortal are not the true masters of death but the true master is the one
who do not run away from death and accepts the death. He/she understands that there are more
hurting and painful things in the life than death. Dumbledore called as the true master of death
because Harry was always ready to sacrifice his life for the sake of other peoples related to the
magic world and the magical school of Hogwarts.
“I thought…all these years…that we were protecting him for her. For Lily.”
“We have been protected him because it has been essential to teach him, to raise him, to let
him try his strength.” (Chap.33, Pg.686-687)
This conversation between Dumbledore and Severus Snape is about the protection of Harry
Potter. Snape said that he has protected him just for his love Lily (Harry’s mother), he has to die.
Dumbledore replied him that we have protected him to not only raise him but also teach him and
help him in building his strength and to know about the powers he have. Furthermore he said that
the connection between him and the dark lord became more stronger than before, he has prepared
himself enough when he face his death, he would defeat the dark lord.
26
Here Harry Potter addresses his friends Ron and Hermione that he is going to find the other
horcruxes individually, Hermione said in his opposite that you are not going individually but we
both (Ron & Hermione) are coming with you in search of those horcruxes. It defines the
friendship between the trio that Hermione asked Harry that we are always with you and we will
be with you whether in the situation of happiness and in the situation of battle.
Friendship plays a vital role in the Harry Potter series, and it also help Harry to achieve his goal
to defeat the Darkest Wizard of Magic World. In the last book of the Harry Potter series, Harry’s
friends were standing with him during the battle of Hogwarts and supported him emotionally and
psychologically. With the help and support of his friends, who were always with him, he won the
battle and killed his enemy.
“Words are, in my not so humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic, capable of
both influencing injury and remedying it.”
This dialogue is from the conversation between Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter, when
Harry finds himself in the King Cross’s Station, there Dumbledore suggests Harry to choose
between life and death or to stay here and go to his body and help others. Dumbledore uttered
these words there that the words have the magical power, he explains that words have the power
to heal wounds and to disturb the life of someone. Words whether in spoken form and in written
form, have the power to impact on the people, Furthermore Dumbledore explained it with the
reference of his past life. Peoples have to choose words carefully because it can affect others, and
cause more harm and wounds than physicality. Words works both as a weapon for someone and
healer for someone.
“No, I think you’re like James,” “who would have regarded it the height of dishonors to
mistrust his friends.” (Chap.5, Pg.81)
Here Remus Lupin tries to tell that Harry is much a like his father James Potter, who also trust
his friends blindly, and their friend Peter Pettigrew betrayed them. In the same way Lupin
resembles Harry to his father, who trusted his friend as a good man, because Harry trust his
friends and love ones. It is actually a suggestion to Harry that do not trust someone unthinkingly
and became naive and trusting sometimes for the peoples he cares of.
“It is a curious thing, Harry but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who
have never sought it. Those who, like you have leaderships thrust upon them, and take up the
mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well.” (Chap.35,
Pg.718)
The above dialogue is quoted from the situation when Harry killed, and reached at the King
Cross’s Station during the conversation between Harry and Dumbledore. Dumbledore suggests
27
Harry to choose that you stay in the station and go back to the body and fight with the evil there.
From the history of Dumbledore, Harry learned that the power seeks to those who do not deserve
to have it or work for it. The best leaders are not those peoples who seek powers only like
Voldemort but those who use it as a responsibility, use it to help others and lead the others as a
good leader like Harry Potter.
When Voldemort used killing curse over Harry to kill him, after Harry died and reached to
another world where Dumbledore was waiting for him to suggest him the right thing that he have
to do.
“Do not pity the dead, Harry. Pity the living , and above all, those who live without love.”
(DH, Chap. 35, Pg.722).
Harry was confused to choose between the dead and life. Harry wanted to stay with his mentor
because the life there is hard to live but Dumbledore motivated him to choose the life, because if
he choose life, he would save the lives of others and stop Voldemort by killing others. He also
said that there are peoples who loves you and whom you love in the world, you must go to save
them and get rid of the evil power.
28
“Saint like,” “ You see… I’m holy. Holey, Fred, geddit?” (Chap.5, Pg.74 )
This is the conversation between the three members of Weasley family, Molly, Fred and George
Weasley, when George was attacked by the Death Eater and he is dying. Mrs. Weasley here
asked him that how he is feeling, he replied “holy”. Fred his twin brother also inquire that what
happened to him but he replied the same “Saintlike”. George tries not to feel his family that he is
going to die, he refuse that his injuries hurt his family and tries to lighten their moods with his
humorous nature just to feel his family better. He sacrificed his life just for the protection of their
school and the magic world.
The chapter analyzed the dialogues related to different themes from the original text of the novel
DH. These dialogues and quotes explained the situations. Different themes or subtopics
discussed and explained with the help of dialogues. Content analysis is used in qualitative
research approach to analyze the materials from the primary and secondary sources.
The next chapter in the research thesis is the last chapter “Conclusion” which is also called the
summary of the whole thesis topic. In this chapter all the collected data summarize, and gather
findings from the study topic and the result received from the study topic conclude the whole
research thesis.
Chapter No # 5: Conclusion
29
The fifth and the last chapter of Conclusion is the summary of the research thesis, it summarizes
the whole study topic with findings and results. In this research, the researcher first introduced
the title, given background of the study, highlighted the objectives and the statement of
problems. Furthermore used different sources and techniques to collect the proven data, and
concluded the research with the findings and the answer of the research question.
Role of Harry Potter and his associates during the battle of Hogwarts between the powers
of moral and evil is clearly explained in this research. Harry played a vital role in the novel and
his role is one of the most important roles from the novel, who lost his parents, parental figures,
respected teachers, friends and others during this battle, but he still fought not only for the
revenge of his parents and loved ones deaths but to save all those peoples, who are not
purebloods and the magical world including their school. Harry along with his friends and
companions stand up with the power of good until the very end of the battle and conquer over the
dark powers, and killed the dark lord. In this research, the research question is evidently
answered with the help of dialogues from the original text and the reviews from different
scholars and researchers. There is an important role of every character but more importantly
there are some characters whose roles are more important than others like the protagonist, his
parents, friends, teachers and some others. The protagonist Harry, plays a very important role
during the battle of Hogwarts between the eternal powers of good and evil. The study highlighted
only those characters who sacrificed and helped Harry during battle like his teachers, who
psychologically supported him and taught him how to combat with Voldemort, his godfathers
Sirius and Remus who motivated him and secretly helped him and lost their lives. On the other
hand, Harry’s friends also helped him, supported him emotionally and always stand besides him.
The research study elaborated the question that How Harry’s associates helped him during the
battle? And in this research study it is clearly explained that most of the members of the Order of
the Phoenix were killed by the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters, including Harry’s teacher Remus
Lupin, Severus Snape and Headmaster Prof. Albus Dumbledore, father figures Sirius Black, and
other associates like Fred Weasley and Rubeus Hagrid. Many others also helped and supported
him emotionally, psychologically, and also guided him, some of them faced consequences during
this battle for the sake of the protection of Harry Potter and the magical school of Hogwarts.
The main findings in this research topic includes the value of friendship and the support one give
in the bad situations of life, it affects a lot on the individual and motivated to never lose hope and
to further go to achieve one’s goal or aim. Another one is pointing the discrimination on the basis
of race or blood purity, which shown in this study topic and the last finding which the researcher
emphasized the battle of Hogwarts between the powers of good and evil, and the roles of every
individual in this battle.
It recommends the reader to know that never losing hope is the thing which make people
successful always. It also point out the value of real friendship that how it help someone to
achieve his/her goal. There is also an important role of female members of the society because
30
they can help emotionally not only as a friend, but became mother sometimes to guide about the
right path. The readers can be aware and understands the real value of friends with the reference
of this research topic. The research also helps the readers to further work on the topics related to
this research study and to chose any topic from this study and work on. It focused on the
following themes of never lose hope, friendship and friends, the discriminative behavior towards
others and the everlasting battle between good and evil. The new knowledge in this study topic,
which attracts the reader and researcher are the ways to help an individual during bad times or
situation.
