Key terms to Remember
Congruent-In geometry, congruent shapes have the same size and shape. This means that the sides and
segments or two shapes have the same length. And, the angles possess the same measurements.

Example:

Similar-When one shape can become another after a resize, flip, slide or turn.
example :
Let’s practice - As always use your calculator

Remember a
Step 1: 10.08 km = 2.8 fraction means
3.6 km you’re dividing to
get your answer.
The Scale
Factor!

10.08 km
3.6 km
Let’s Practice!
Step Two: Find the missing side (?) Remember that the scale factor is 2.8

Which side in the smaller rectangle corresponds to the missing

side in the larger rectangle?

8.8 km

Therefore, 8.8 km X 2.8 (the scale factor)

Gives us the missing side of what?

8.8 km X 2.8 km = 24.64 km

Practice: What is the scale factor? What is the missing side?

1. Use corresponding sides to

figure out scale factor. 4/2=2
Scale factor=2
2. Now use the scale factor (2) to
find the missing side with help
from its corresponding side.
4/2 (scale factor)=2
(missing side)
Check your answers?

1. Scale Factor = 2 Missing Side = 2 cm

2. Scale Factor = 2 Missing Side = 3 cm
3. Scale Factor = 3 Missing Side = 45 cm
4. Scale Factor = 3 Missing Side = 2 cm
