Hello everyone, I’m Prerna
I am going to take a minute now to talk a little bit about reaching your audience, through structuring your speech and linking your ideas, so that they come across clearly linking ideas is actually pretty important because it ensures the cohesiveness of your speech, essential in maintaining the focus of your audience you can connect your thoughts using phrases like “following on from”, “in light of the fact that”, “in my view” if you want to add a personal opinion – it is also possible to produce an equally effective speech using simpler terms like “first”, “next”, “thirdly” and “finally” within your speeches, it might be useful to include anecdotes and personal stories that further your case – for example if your topic is “should we always forgive and forget”, you might like to talk a little bit about having to forgive someone in your own life – through this, you can elaborate upon the difficulties in doing this and how you overcame them this idea of being personal, is more unique to public speaking – statistics are certainly important, but you will connect to an audience with much more ease, if you are able to find commonalities between you this is certainly something you should consider when compiling your points and ultimately composing your speeches today. Just a minute topics - Being 10 years old again - A second chance - Yesterday - “Bright Lights, Big City” (which city name comes to mind when you hear this and why) - Albert Einstein - English tourists - Crocodiles - Bad advice - Buying a new car - Ghosts and the supernatural Topics - The cult of celebrity is detrimental to today’s society - Mankind needs religion - In today’s world actions are stronger than words - The whole world should speak the same language Speech structure and tips - 12 students in each room, with 4x groups of 3 people (Chair, Speaker 1, and Speaker 2) - The 9-minute rotation should be 1 minute for the Chair, 3 minutes for Speaker 1, 3 minutes for questions from the floor and 2 minutes for Speaker 2 - Students are allowed to use phones to research, remind them that this is about how you present your points, only use stats where they will help you advance your point, not just thrown in
