People should set long and short term goals at the same time. Long-term goals can be
a great motivator for self-improvement. They give us objectives that we can strive to
achieve. Everyone should have at least one long-term goal in mind that they wish to
achieve. These goals can give people a general idea of what direction they want their
life to go in. However, every long-term plan needs to include shot-terms goals as well,
they’re just as important as your long-term goals as they give you an objective to strive
for in the near future. Short-term goals can allow you to stay on track toward achieving
your ultimate long-term goals. Short-term goals can allow you to stay on track toward
achieving your ultimate long-term goals.

A need is an essential requirement or a necessity whereas a want is a desire. The

fulfilment of needs is essential for one’s survival whereas fulfilment of wants is not
essential for one’s survival.

When there is nothing to spark the dreams, ambitions, and hopes inside people, then
negativity often prevails. Everybody needs something to strive for, and reaching for
goals fosters confidence and higher self-esteem. People needs dreams and hopes to
strive for and both should go on the same ground. Without hope, dreams would be
terminated easily. But if someone has hope, he/she could build even wider dreams.

An example of a need is our everyday primary needs. Human needs are the basic
requirements and these include food, clothing and shelter. Without these humans
cannot survive. Wants are a step ahead of needs and are largely dependent on the
needs of humans themselves. An example would be, whenever I have to take a bath
but I want to do it using the best soaps. Thus, wants are not mandatory part of life. I do
not need a good smelling soap. But I wanted to have one, which made it fall into the
category of ‘wants’.
