Impact of HCI on Society improved usability in technology

The impact of the usability of computers has affected the society because it's made it a lot easier to use
computers back when computers first came around to be able to use a computer you needed to know the
computer language because you had to use command line interface which took in specific commands and
completed the action but the command you wrote had to be specific otherwise the computer would not
understand. Whereas now computers are simple to use they use symbols, and we have mice and keyboards to
help us navigate through the computer.

In modern technology we use symbols to complete certain actions on the computer this first came around about
in 1973 using basic symbols this changed technology for everyone we didn’t need to understand coding and the
computing commands to use a computer we know how the option to use buttons to control most things like start
stop up down delete and enter this now is like a new language we all understand what these symbols mean so
the evolution of GUI has changed computing for ever we don’t need training to use a computer anymore. With
the development of GUI, it allows anyone to log on and open application like Microsoft without entering
specific code

Impact of Specialized user interface on society

Before some of the specialized interfaces came out blind and deaf people couldn’t use computers because there
was no adaptation for them whereas now we have speech to text and text to speech, speech to text is where the
user talks into the microphone and the computer types it out for the user and then text to speech is where the
computer reads out the text on the screen for the user to hear this now allows all types of people with disabilities
to use computers. Another way impaired used can use computers is with eye trackers this allows people who are
fully paralyzed to use computers they look at the letter they are trying to use, and it will type it for them, for
example Steve Hawkins uses this to still be able to communicate with people without being able to talk or move.
We also have special keyboards for blind people with small lumps on these correspond to certain letters, so they
use their touch sense to figure out what keys they are using on the keyboard this is called braille. The fact we
have this technology allows all types of people to communicate without that barrier that stops us from
communication to the disabled.

Impact of interfaces in hostile environments on society

Using hci for hostile environment is the way of the future and extremely advanced we can now send unmanned
drones and planes into hostile environments without anyone getting hurt this has reassured society that people
aren't getting hurt during hostile or dangerous environments. Another way we can use hci for dangerous
environments is for example volcanos scientists have started using drones to carry out experiments and test
materials in the volcano this eliminates any risk of people getting hurt during the process. Recently with the
development of robots we can now send drones and robots to space to examine planets that humans can't
physically get to Nasa send an unmanned drone to mars which led to many different discovery's without having
to risk astronaut's lives this allows our society to develop even more without risking people's health and I allows
us to develop our technology and knowledge
