Homeroom Guidance
Module
Homeroom Guidance
Grade 11

ng Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs).
at career development.
Siguraduhing may magagamit siyang kagamitan.

THE SUPERHERO IN ME
1
Introduction
This module will discuss appropriate ways on how to improve your self- care
and live up to your full potentials. It will also help you in differentiating self-worth
from your self-esteem to better understand the factors that
influence your inner sense of value.
The module will present various activities that will help you develop and
strengthen your self-worth. Thus, it is recommended that you should accomplish
every activity.
As an additional challenge, there are activities in this module that will help you
discover your worth amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

Keep in Mind
SELF WORTH vs. SELF-ESTEEM: LET’s CLARIFY!

Self-worth and self-esteem are two different things, despite the fact that they are
used at interchangeably. Self-esteem is concerned more on your confidence and healthy
admiration of yourself, while self-worth is how you value yourself—an inner sense of value.
It is you who can determine how outside factors influence your self- worth. These factors
are actions or reactions and judgments of other people. Researches say that an individual
who validates his/her self-worth from external factors may more likely have low self-
worth. However, individuals who consider their internal aspects tend to develop a healthy
inner sense of value.
How to Improve your Self-worth

• Stop comparing yourself to others. Evaluating yourself based on standards of

other people may lead you to self-destruction or may develop maladaptive behavior.
• Challenge the critical inner self. Find effort to see who you really are. Listen to
your inner voice. Start understanding and appreciating your own feelings, thoughts,
desires and values. If you will challenge your critical inner voice and stop comparing
yourself to others, you can begin to get a feeling for your own self-worth.
How to Improve and Raise Your Self-esteem
• Be with people who treat you well. Some people act in ways that tear you down.
Others lift you up by what they say and do. Learn to tell the difference. Choose
friends who help you feel OK about yourself. Find people that you can be yourself
with. Be that type of friend to others.
• Set goals and work toward them. If you want to feel good about yourself, do things
that are good for you. Maybe you want to eat a healthier diet, get more fit, or study
better. Make a goal. Then make a plan on how to do it. Stick with your plan. Track
your progress. Be proud of what you've done so far. Say to yourself, "I've been
following my plan to work out every day for 45 minutes. I feel good about it. I know I
can keep it up."
• Give and help. Giving is one the best ways to build self-esteem. Tutor a classmate,
help clean up your neighborhood, help in a donation drive campaign. Help out at
home. Make it a habit to be kind and fair. Do things that make you proud of the kind
of person you are. When you do things that make a difference (even a small one)
your self-esteem will grow.

HIGH FIVE! FACTORS IN SOUND
DECISION-MAKING

Introduction
In life, you will encounter situations where you will make different choices especially
when facing a tough problem. In this module, you will examine the different factors in sound
decision-making towards a common good.

Keep in Mind
Suggested Time Allotment: 20 Minutes

Decision-making
It is important that in decision-making, you take necessary steps to make it
sound. This will help you achieve what you have initially aimed for. You may have
made decisions based on your own judgment in the past, and the result may not
be what you have intended. This is true to many people who rely on their own
judgment, without feeling the need to reflect and seek opinion from others. Other
people may have different perspectives for your situations, something that may be
of help in your decision-making

Sound decision is when a person takes the time to fully discover and learn
the different choices and probable results of decisions. It involves gathering facts,
discussing the information, and making a reflection for a better and deeper
decision.

The following are some considerations in making a sound decision:

Personal needs and wants: We often prioritize this as we are mostly concerned
of the things that we have to satisfy during the situation.

Family: Opinions of the members of the family are also considered as vital in
decision-making, especially of our parents before making a choice. This is because
we know that our parents know better about life therefore, their advice matters. In
some cases however, the parents have the choice over life decisions of a person.
School and Community: We often ponder if our decisions are the same as to
what we have learned from our experiences and interaction with society, and what
was taught to us through our formal education. We adapt to the standards set by
society and we also carefully see the impact of our decision to ourselves and to
the community to which we belong.

Religious affiliations: Our religious affiliation plays a significant role in our

decision-making process as we should always contemplate if our decisions obey
the teachings and values instilled upon us by our faith.

Media and technology: With the widespread of media forms (mass media and
social media), communication is made with much ease as compared to those of
the previous generations. Media and technology made a huge influence on how
we send and receive information, assess our situation and make judgments and
choices.

Since in decision-making, the focus is on the solution to a particular

problem/concern, we also use different approaches in dealing with it, depending
on the call of the situation. Whichever it is, we must ask ourselves the following:

What do your feelings tell you? Is it reasonable?

What are the available facts?

Which solutions are possible?
What alternatives do you have?
What is the best solution?

In summary, the following are the steps that we must consider:

• Gather information
• Identify the alternatives
• Choose from alternatives
• Identify the decision to be made
• Take action
• Review the decision

Share Your Thoughts and Feelings

PRINCIPLES OF HUMAN RIGHTS

In understanding the meaning of “Human Rights” one must first recognize the salient
features that define it. Human Rights are:

Universal which means every person enjoys the same rights as any other person
regardless of race, religion, and other differentiating and defining factors. So, a baby
that is born in the Philippines has the same right to life, education, and others as would
be enjoyed by someone of western descent.

Inalienable which simply means it can never be taken away by anything or anyone.
Indivisible which means that the rights possessed by each person are of equal
importance. For example, a person should not be denied the right to education simply
because he is enjoying his right to adequate living conditions.

Interdependent and interrelated meaning one right contributes to the full enjoymentof
the others. For example, one cannot fully enjoy his right to education and study while
being deprived of proper nutrition and care hence these two rights are involved with
each other.

Equal as human beings of dignity and should not suffer from any forms of
discrimination. Sixth, all persons have the right to participation and inclusion which
means they have the right to join in on matters that would affect their life and well- being.

Accountable and follow the rule of law in protecting and observing the rights of its
constituents.

Lesson It’s You and I that Makes
theWorld Go Round
4
Introduction

The previous lesson you learn how to apply effective ways of protecting oneself
and others such as awareness in different laws in the country. You also learned different
ways in resolving issues that involve oneself and share skills helpful to solve problems.
In this module, the learners will engage in some challenging tasks from participating in
some school-community service activities to organizing projects and activities that aimed
to develop fellow youth and the community. If you just look around, there are so many
ways to help improve the community.

Keep in Mind
Suggested Time Allotment: 70 minutes

The Importance of Community Development Projects

If we give the learners the opportunity to take an active role in some community development
projects and programs, we are giving them an avenue to hone their academic and life skills, and
at the same time, a chance to create a positive impact to the society, making life better to all the
members of the community.

Along with the act of serving the community, there are benefits that learners can enjoywhile
engaging in these activities:

1. Self-Satisfaction. Participating community service especially when you are interested

with the program can help you feel good about yourself because you are reaching out
and helping others.
2. Social Responsibility. Engaging oneself to any community services can let a learner
be more aware on one’s role and responsibility in their community. It increases the
chance of camaraderie among the people in the community while livingin harmony.
3. Enhancement of Personal Knowledge: Exposure to community service can lead to
enhancement of oneself especially their interpersonal and communication skills while
gaining and growing from their experience.

Different Community and Youth Development Projects

The following are just some of the different community and youth developmentprojects that you
can organize that will surely create a positive impact in our society:

1. Feeding program – Apparently malnutrition is still a major problem in the world, more
so in our country. It is a heartbreaking fact that there are families that struggleto feed
their kids with healthy meals. Organizing a feeding program in depressed area in your
community would be of great help, particularly if you would do itregularly and monitor
its impact to the weights and nutrition level of the children.
2. Gift-giving program –Gift-giving is one community development projects you can do
to make other people happy, particularly those who are suffering with illness in
hospitals, the grandparents in the elderly care centers and the street children. We can
never tell how great the positive impact it will bring to this world when we do such
simple act of kindness.

3. Tree planting –Tree planting project helps transplant trees in their permanent position.
This activity will foster environmental stewardship among learners and help the
community to restore and protect its natural resources.

4. Clean and green drive –A community service of cleaning the streets, planting trees
and promoting the urban gardening in cities, would really contribute to the protection
of environment, and more comfortable and sustainable living.

5. Mga Laro ng Lahi – Nowadays, seldom that we see children playing the traditional
games of our country called as “Mga Laro ng Lahi.” These games include the following:
Agawan-base; Dama; Karera ng Sako; Langit-lupa; Luksong-baka; Patintero; Piko;
Tumbang preso; Tsato/syato and a lot more. Sponsoring an activity like this will not
only stimulate the mental and physical aspect of the children, but itwill also promote
the Filipino culture when it comes to children’s games.

Volunteerism and Self-Empowerment

In organizing a community development project, volunteerism and self-empowerment areboth

important contributory factors for it to become successful. According to Merriam- Webster
Dictionary, volunteerism is the act of doing volunteer work in community service. Volunteerism
fosters compassion and cooperation for a greater cause. It is about sacrificing your time and
effort for the benefits of many. For us to help others and contribute to the community, we need
first to empower ourselves by understanding our own strengths and weaknesses and making
positive choices for our own betterment. Thereby, self- empowerment is about maximizing our
strengths to do something great for our own growth. Once we see the value and cultivate in
ourselves both volunteerism and self-empowerment, then and only then we can significantly
impact our society through some community development programs and projects.

Pointers for a Successful Community Project Development

Community service as an integral part of Homeroom Guidance Program is an opportunity for

your learners to build their character and develop their academic knowledge and skills, making
it relevant to help other people and improve the community. Granting that community services
participated by SHS learners will be approved during the new normal there are pointers to be
followed to ensure the success of this activity. These are:

1. Plan. In the previous session, the learners planned how they will organize and
implement their Community Development Project. The key is in the details. Know the
ins and outs of the activity that you want to accomplish. If you planned to have a tree
planting campaign, find out the best kind of tree to plant in your community and identify
the place that you want to rehabilitate ahead of time.

2. Follow the school’s protocol when it comes to obtaining approval for this activity. Also,
secure parent’s permit, so that parents or guardians will be notified about this activity
and give their consent to the participation of their children. Make the parents informed
about the purpose of the activity, which is to immerse the learners in taking active role
in the community.
3. Carry out the activities according to the set plan and objectives. If you expect to finish
the community development activity within fifteen days, stick to it. However, when it
comes to community service, unexpected events may happen, so be flexible and
prepare for some changes in your program.
4. Give some special considerations and adjust your program. There are times that the
objectives of the project will not be met in just one day event, just like a feeding
program that needs to be done for a certain period and be monitored to check the
progress of the participants. This kind of program needs extra planning and support
from the school and local officials for the funding.
5. Prior and during the community service, remind the learners about the following:
a. Dress appropriately. If the activity is tree planting, they are expected to
wear light and breathable clothing and appropriate footwear like boots. If you
intend to organize a feeding program, see to it that they wear Personal
Protective Equipment (PPE) like apron, hairnet, mask, and gloves while
preparing the food.
b. Be enthusiastic and take pride in the tasks.
c. Observe proper decorum in dealing with other people. Remember that you are
there to help.
6. Instruct the learners to observe and document their experience while conducting the
community service activity.
7. After the completion of this school community project, the learners will accomplish a
narrative report with the following format:
