 The poem's message is centered on our love for our nation and our native tongue.

Our language
is a powerful tool for achieving freedom and liberty when compared to the colonists who once
governed our nation, particularly the Spaniards. We should also not consider our language to be
less valuable than other languages because it is a gift from God.

 Contrary to what Rizal wrote in his poem, we forget our love for our nation and language,
therefore its relation to the poem is clear. He fought and lost his life for his love of his nation
and language, yet we ignore and exalt the cultures of other nations. Even inside our own nation,
our language and culture are still inferior to those of other foreign nations.

 After reading the poem, I feel awful and guilty since our generation is steadily ignoring our own
language and favoring the culture and products of other countries over those of our own. We
are forced to adopt the culture of another nation, and they are slowly recolonizing us. Really,
history does repeat itself.
