Hello,

My name is Susumu Kimura and I'm happy to be presenting this passion project of mine
and my cast & crew. Influenced by Hannah Arendt and Japanese American's wartime
experience, this dystopian short sci-fi attempt to tell a personal story of normal human
being thrown into the politics of the world gone mad. I hope to be able to bring this film
to your audience and your neighbors! Thank you again.

Best,

Susumu Kimura
Writer/Director/Editor, Submittan

A mother's decision for survival takes us into an unflinching view of Submittan, a

future city with compromised morality.

2035 - Chase (Mia Ando), an immigrant artist and a mother of two, struggles to
survive in the metropolitan city of Submittan. Facing eviction, she take a job to
design a poster for an ad campaign - a nefarious plan that leads to a devastating
consequence for the city.

Susumu is a Japanese filmmaker/editor based in Los Angeles. After studying at

Emerson College in Boston, he has built the career as a versatile film/video editor,
and worked for clients such as Netflix, Fox, Nike and NBCUniversal. His own
films focus on human interactions amid peculiar circumstances, influenced by his
experiences as an immigrant who is trying to raise a family in both welcoming and
challenging country.

If you visit Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles you would be struck by the fact
that the whole exhibit culminates in one simple fact: Yes, Nazis organized the
mass murder of the Jewish people, but it was “ordinary people” who committed
those atrocities. Since my visit there, I’ve been fascinated by the fact that any
ordinary person can be easily swayed to do bad things when pressed. Recent events
in the US and the world has only convinced me more that it is true.

There are multiple experiments that demonstrate this can and has happened:
Stanford Prison, The Milgram, and The Third Wave. They are all chilling
examples of what humans are capable of when the situation allows them to be.

I wanted to write a story of cruelty from not from the viewpoint of a victim or a
villain, but of a bystander, an unwilling contributor. My goal was not to judge them
but to feel them in their journey. My aim is to leave the audience with one simple
question: There are always moral choices left, none are easy; which do you
choose?
