It was the 20th of June as the sun had been emitting intolerable scorching rays which we

were forced to tolerate. Everyone of the family members was engrossed in some activities. I
was sipping chai. My family was obsessed with chai to the extent that they willingly drank it
while sweating through every inch of their body in the hottest months of the year. My mom
had been occupied in the kitchen since morning as few guests were to come over that day.
My dad was reclining on the divan and he had been reading the newspaper.

Suddenly the clouds started thudding creating quite a thunderous sound which gave us
heebie jeebies. With that, my cup of chai ended. Just then my mom hollered at me to go out
to buy some tomatoes for the dish which my mom was preparing, from a market just by the
Indus river. At first I held that up. But then my mom came in my room and admonished me to
go before the weather got worse as we could hear those loud thunders. I trampled on
laziness and put on slippers and went out to buy those tomatoes.

I was strolling slowly due to fear of sweating. The heat was quite sweltering. I managed to
reach there, and was about to talk to a stall vendor when I heard people shrieking and I saw
turmoil occur. I got bewildered seeing people like that but just then I saw in the sky and I
caught sight of a big spaceship landing exactly near the river Indus.

Within a matter of seconds, that big spaceship thudded on the ground. People were crying
out. I was puzzled and oblivious of what had been going on all this time. Out came aberrant-
looking aliens.Their outfits were as green as the grass on which they had landed and the
grass was camouflaging with their outfits. They talked a bit to each other. Their robotic and
laggy voices were so bizarre that none could perceive what they were saying. Each of them
clinged a bug gun which was analogous to a venom gun. The scene was petrifying and
caused people to shout much louder begging for their lives. This was the first time the world
had glanced at such a type of thing. Everybody thought that they had come to obliterate the
whole world. They seemed immortal.

But what they did next startled me. They put their guns aside and approached the people’
causing people to run farther. One of them took the lead. His peculiar voice sounded like a
subdued “Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!”. It was quite confusing to grasp and interpret the meaning of the
grimacing and peculiar countenance. The strange creatures joined their both hands together
and pleaded with us to save their lives. They were groaning before everyone with a frantic
and grizzling voice pointing at their splendid and arresting spaceship. This instigated
everyone to cease running fast. Their agonised, unfathomable sound and pleading actions
showed the truth it contained. I jogged my memory to find if any of my kith and kin were
archeologists, so that they could help us interpret this bizarre ordeal and realised that my
father was one. I rushed back home as I popped into the house, my mother was calling me
and asking where the tomatoes were but I didn't retort, and went straight into the lawn. I
reported to my father that some aliens had appeared. He was puzzled and I told him to
follow me to the riverside.

He followed me to the River Indus, carrying some type of notebooks and devices which he
had always forbidden me to touch. As he glanced at those creatures, his jaw was left wide
open and his widened eyes rolled in disbelief. He said that we had to get rid of them as soon
as possible and if that doesn't happen, they will burn the whole world to ashes. He
commanded me to stay aside. My denial turned his disbelief into frustration. He scornfully
looked at me with his fiery eyes. He took the lead and waved his hand, and gave them a
glass plate with an electronic pencil. They abruptly took it and started scribbling on it and
their handwriting was the worst as it did not resemble any letter belonging to English. After
having penned down, they returned it back to my dad. He put it on the floor as he took out
another gadget. I was astounded to see such futuristic things. The gadget he took out
emitted few blue rays which engulfed glass plate. He read out that they wanted to say that
they had come from Graverin which is an undiscovered planet. He was Gravero and he and
his friend needed our help in mending their spaceship which had run out of chemicals and
collided with Earth. In spite of having the chemical they were oblivious of how to repair the
damage which collision had caused. My father’s heart didn't melt a bit for them. My father
showed his fake empathy for the aliens, in their language, and said that he will request his
fellow scientists who will help them. They were looking so melancholic that if they were
humans their tears would have formed a pond beside the river.

Next day my father and I went to meet many scientists. But it all ended in vain as our body
was sweltering after roaming the whole day under unforgiving heat. I was optimistic that
other scientists of different nations will help. We contacted them but everyone denied. They
told us not to get involved in such types of things. None was ready to help them because
everyone assumed that the aliens would capture them and make them work under the
aliens. My father and his friends feared that if aliens came to know they would conspire to kill
us. He told me that we didn't have to tell the aliens or they would exterminate human life.We
had to hide the bitter truth that none was ready to help them. We had to come up with the
solution, which was that we had to dictate to them that the scientists were occupied with
some of their work which disabled them to come to repair. So instead the scientist had
spelled out the ways to mend spaceship and father would perform the task on-ground.

It was quite hard for me to digest that humankind was so callous that they teach their
children empathy and on the other hand they deny helping someone in dire need. The aliens
were refugees on earth. They were metaphorically refugees of war. I racked my brains and I
realised the reason for their behaviour was quite simple. Refugees of war are menaces to us
humans. Pakistan shelters more than 2 million refugees, who live in poverty. The fear of
people is that the refugees will take over their position and they will surpass them. I
connected all the dots and came to the conclusion that people loathe outsiders. They fear
that their land will be invaded and the resources will be exploited. It was the distrust and
insecurity which paved the way for fear of helping.

It was high time to get going and tell the fabricated story to the aliens. We went there and my
father penned down something on the glass plate and gave it to the aliens who after having
read it, wrote something on the plate and gave it to my father. My father translated their
language in mind, read it aloud and said,”If that is the case, you must commence the work
straightaway.” My father now was tensed as he did not know ways to repair but wanted to
get rid of him so he requested Gravero to bring the spaceship along with the chemicals at his
base. My father went into the futuristic and automatic spaceship. The scars which were on
my father’s face determined that he would burst into tears if he got the chance because he
was trapped among the aliens.
He couldn't grasp everything he saw in the engine and he put the chemicals into a lid which
he put in the engine. The aliens wrote on the plate that they must test before flying it but my
father lied that the chemicals were just enough to last one flight. The aliens would have to
risk their lives. The way the aliens were glaring at us made us think that they doubted us but
my father wrote something on the plate which assured them that we were trying to help.
They were now ready and we got out. As they took off, the spaceship made a huge whirring
sound and after a few minutes the whole spaceship exploded, littering the blue surface of the
Indus with grey and green confetti.

The insecurity and distrust had cost the alien’s lives who were unscathing and such is the
fate of refugees on earth
