Copper alloys
Brass
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. When the
percentage of zinc is less than 18%, the brass
has a red color; as the zinc content is
increased, the metal becomes lighter and more
golden. This alloy is harder than pure copper.
Cast brass is not viscous and is perfectly suited
for detailed molds.

Bronze
Bronze is an alloy of copper and tin. The
copper content in this alloy is generally greater
than 60%. The tin content can be recognized
by the color of the bronze: the more golden
tones have a higher tin content, while the
redder tones have a lower tin content. Besides,
tin helps to form the characteristic protective
patina that increases copper's hardness and
resistance to corrosion.
Copper alloys

No other metal has a variety of colors as attractive as

copper and its alloys. The red of copper, the gold of
brass, the chocolate brown of the manganese bronze,
the green of the copper patina, and the bright white of
the nickel silver allow designers to use copper in infinite
ways.

Architectural Bronze C38500
C38500 - (Architectural Bronze) This alloy is similar to C360 (Free Cut Brass) with
the only significant difference being a slightly higher lead content in C360 for
better machinability. The machinability rating for C385 is 90 compared to 100 for
C360.

Naval Bronze or Naval Brass C46400
C46400 - (Naval Bronze) The excellent strength and corrosion resistance of this
alloy make it a favorite for naval axles. It has good machining qualities but is easy to
cast and hot forge. It is a widely specified naval application.

Silicon Bronze C65500
C65500 - (Silicon Bronze) This copper-silicon alloy is characterized by high strength
and exceptional corrosion resistance. It has the strength and toughness of mild
steel, is excellent for working both hot and cold, and welds easily. It is widely used
for pole lines and marine equipment, welded tanks, and pressure vessels without
fire.
White Bronze (Nickel-Silver) C77600

The addition of nickel imparts a silvery yellow color to these alloys when sanded or
polished. They offer excellent strength and resistance to corrosion. These alloys are
difficult to extrude and are limited to relatively simple shapes with heavier walls.
The "Extruded" finish of C77600 is gray. Polishing of either alloy reveals the yellow-
tinged silver color that approximates stainless steel in appearance.
