Constant Change

By: Shynnie Aglangao

Have you ever thought or said: ‘I hope this will last forever’ when you liked the situation you are
in? Sometimes when we like the situation or when we feel happy, we want to stop the time for us to stay
in that particular situation, right? So, there are two outcomes of change. Change for the better and change
for the worse. We all do know that there is nothing constant here on earth except for change. According
to Merriam Webster’s dictionary, change is to make radically different.
Change is simply visible in everything. We can visualize and observe it from a cocoon to being a
beautiful butterfly, from an infant to a grown up, from friends to lovers and from lovers to strangers. But
change is a part of the process. We cannot be a better version of who we are if we do not accept change in
our lives. Some people do not want change because they focus more on what they have to give up instead
of what they have to gain. They do not want to lose something close and precious to them because they
cannot imagine themselves living without it. People fear change because of three reasons. 1. Everything
will seem to be different. People love habits. Habits becomes our routines and when change is applied,
the routine will be destroyed and may even cause us uncomfortable situations, distractions and even
confusions. 2. We hate change because it requires more work. This is a universal challenge. Desiring to
reach something or to become something requires a lot of work for it to come off. They want to become
successful in life but they do not want to put such effort but instant success instead. The third reason is
sometimes the threat is real. Change is resisted because it can hurt. For example, when the technology
existed, many people lost their jobs. Another example is, before, the bonding of one family is to eat or
watch television together and sing songs in the evening. But ever since technology existed, children or
parents are hurt because they are divided by technology.
However, there is also a bright side of change. Let me read to you these two quotations about
change: “You can change all things for the better when you change yourself for the better” does it seem
familiar to you? Here is another one: “your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change”.
These quotations want to convey the bright side of change. We can all be better with change. A child
cannot be fed by milk forever. The parents should introduce solid foods to the baby for it to learn eating
hard foods. “Every age has happiness and troubles”. In addition, change allows us to move forward in life
and experience new and exciting things. It will help us to focus, it will shape and mold us to become
something better. It leads to opportunity and experiences which only means we are progressing. Whether
we like change to occur in our lives or not, it will still happen anyway. It is uncontrollable, undeniable
and inseparable with our life. So, it will be much better if we embrace it and make it as our own along the
way.
Therefore, let us take change in its bright side and choose to change for the better not for worse.
Let the change do its work, do not stop it for it is uncontrollable. Remember to not remove the love while
you’re on the process to avoid losing those important people around you. So, what will you choose? A
change for the better or for the worse?
