This Standard was translated into an second edition from an 1056:2017 original by SSMO within the program of the technical committee for Fertilizers and soil conditioners Sudanese Standard SDS 1056:2017 Contents 1. References Sudanese Standard SDS 1056: 7 Compound fertilizers 1. Scope This standard specification applies to compound fertilizers that contain the primary macro - plant nutrient elements (nitrogen, phosphours and potassium) 2. Definitions Compound fertilizers shall contain at least two of the primary macro- plant nutrients (nitrogen, phosphours and potassium) with different percentages provided the source is not animal and they may contain one or more of the macto- nutrient, secondary, micronutrients, humates, amino acids and sea weed extracts. 3. Technical requirements 3.1 The product shall be in the form of solid or liquid state 3.1.1 The solid state shall be in the form of granules, powder or crystals. 3.1.2 The liquid state shall be in the form of true solution, suspension or paste. 3.2 Physical properties 3.2.1 Solid fertilizers 3.2.1.1 The product shall be homogenous, free from extraneous materials and free flowing. 3.2.1.2 The color of the product shall be as specified by the manufacturer. 3.2.1.3 Ninety five percent (95%) of the solid granular product shall pass through 2 ~ 5 mm mesh. 3.2.1.4 Ninety eight percent (98%) of the powder or crystalline product shall pass through 0.25 - 2 mm mesh. 3.2.1.5 The moisture content shall not exceed 2%. 3.2.1.6 In the presence of other additives such as a humates, amino acids and Sea weed extracts the moisture shall not exceed 5%. 3.2.2 Liquid fertilizers 3.2.2.1 The solution shall be a true solution, free from impurities, suspended materials and precipitates. 3.2.2.2 The suspended fertilizer shall not be less than 90% by mass in water. 3.2.2.3 The paste shall be homogenous and the product solubility shall not be less than 95 %, 3.3The Chemical Properties 3.3.1 The total percent of primary nutrients (NPK) shall not be less than 35 % by weight (W/W) in solid fertilizers and 15 % in liquid fertilizers. 3.3.2 The percentages of nitrogen (N), phosphours (P;Os) and potassium (K20) shall not be less than 5 % for solid fertilizers, 2 % for liquid fertilizers. 3.3.3 The other nutrients (secondary, micronutrients, humates, amino acids and sea weed extracts) shalll be declared if present in the formulation. Sudanese Standard SDS 1056:2017 3.3.4 In the presence of other additives such as a humates, amino acids and Sea weed extracts shall not exceed 15%. 3.3.5. The percentage of POs soluble in neutral ammonium citrate shall not be less than 90 % of the total POs by weight in solid fertilizer. 3.3.6 The percentage of P,0s soluble in water shall not be less than 90 % by weight of the neutral ammonium citrate soluble POs in solid fertilizer. 3.3.7 The percentage of (K;0) soluble in water shall not be less than 98 % of the total (KO) in solid fertilizer. 3.3.8 The form of nitrogen shall be specified (ammonium, nitrate or urea). 3.3.9 The biuret content shall not be more than 1 % in case of urea nitrogen. 3.3.10 The percentage of chlorine shall not be more than 1.5 %. 3.3.11 The percentage of sodium shall not be more than 2 %. 3.4 Contaminants 3.4.1 The radioactive materials shall be within permissible levels approved of Sudanese Nuclear Radiological Regulatory Authority. 3.4.2 The content of Lead shall not be more than 15 (ug/g). 3.4.3 The content of Cadmium shall not be more than 20 (ug/g) 3.4.4 The content of Arsenic shall not be more than 5 (ug/g). 3.4.5 The content of mercury shall not be more than 0.2 (ug/g). 4. Packaging 4.1 Solid fertilizers The product shall be packed in suitable moisture and light- proof cottainers. 4.2 Liquid fertilizers 4.2.1 The plastic containers shall be made of polypropylene material. 4.2.2 The container shall be light-proof. 4.2.3 The pack size shall not be more 50 kg for solid fertilizers and 25 liter for liquid fertilizers. 4.2.4 The pack shall be in good condition and not affected by loading, off- loading and storage. 5, Labeling ‘The information below shall be printed on every pack in a clear non-erodible manner in Arabic and/or English languages. 5,1 Name of product (Compound fertilizer). 5.2 Name and address of manufacturer. 5.3 Country of origin. 5.4 The percentage of each element. 5.5 Product net weight (kg) or volume (Liter) §.6 Batch number in packed material. 5.7 Manufacture date. 5.8 Expiry date. ‘Sudanese Standard SDS 1056:2017 5.9 Method of application and any precautions related to the product to be taken, 6. Storage The product shall be stored in compliance with the fertilizer storage specification SDS No (4015:2015) fertilizer stores. 7, Sampling 7.1 In case of fertilizer packed in bags the sampling shall be as indicated in the following table: Consignment size in bags (50 kg) Percentages to be taken or containers (25 Liter) 1-100 5 101- 500 14 501-1000 07 More than 1000 05 7.2 Solid fertilizers 7.2.1 Equal quantities of fertilizers shall be taken from different parts of the sampled bags, duly mixed to represent the composite sample. 7.2.2 Metallic sample trier of minimum 60cm in length excluding the handle and external diameter of maximum 17mm. 7.2.3 The composite sample shall be thoroughly mixed and then divided into three equal representative samples of one kg minimum. 7.2.4 Each of the three samples shall be placed in a clean, dry air- tight glass bottle or any suitable container not affected by the fertilizer. The sample shall completely fill the bottle or the container and tightly closed. 7.2.5 The sample containers shall be stamped. The date of sampling and the other relevant information of the consignment shall be written on the container. The sample shall be stored in a cool dry place. One sample shall be sent to the laboratory, the second to the importer and the third to arbitration. 7.3 Liquid fertilizers 7.3.1 Random samples shall be taken according to article (7.1). 7.3.2 The selected containers shall be mixed and equal quantities shall be taken from each container using a suction pipe and put in a clean, dry and light proof glass or polyethylene container and closed tightly to represent the composite sample for the consignment. 7.3.3 The composite sample shall be divided into three equal parts with a minimum of one liter each. ‘Sudanese Standard SDS 1056:2017 7.3.4 Each of the three samples shall be placed in a clean, dry air- tight glass bottle or any suitable container not affected by the fertilizer. The sample shall completely fill the bottle or the container and tightly closed. 7.3.5 The sample container shall be stamped. One sample shall be sent to the laboratory, the second to the importer and the third to arbitration. 7.4 paste fertilizers 7.4.1 Random samples shall be taken according to article (7.1). 7.4.2 Paste shall be mixed thoroughly in their containers before opening and the sample shall be taken directly using a suitable tool and put in a clear and dry glass or polyethylene container and tightly closed to represent the composite sample of the consignment. 7.4.3 The composite sample shall be divided into three equal parts with a minimum of one liter each. 7.4.4 Each of the three samples shall be placed in a clean, dry air- tight glass bottle or any suitable container not affected by the fertilizer. The sample shall completely fill the bottle or the container and tightly closed. 7.4.5 The sample container shall be stamped. The date of sampling and the other relevant information of the consignment shall be written on the container. The sample shall be stored in a cool dry place. One sample shall be sent to the laboratory, the second to the importer and the third to arbitration. 8. Methods of Inspection and Analyses 8.1 Visual inspection of the label. 8.2 Visual inspection of the product. 8.3 Determination of particle size Using 0.25 mm and 5 mm diameter mesh. 8.4 Determination of total nitrogen according to Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC), 1990 955.04, 970.02, 970.03. 8.5 Determination of total phosphorus (P;0;) according to - Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC), (2003), International 17th Edition; Official Method 958.01, 970.01 phosphorus (Total) in Fertilizers Spectrophotometer Molybdovanadophosphate Method. Technical compliance 9.1 Any consignment shall be accompanied by a certificate from an SSMO. accepted body to show the compliance with this standard specification. 9.2 The consignment shall be considered in compliance with the standard specifications if all the laboratory samples pass all tests under article 8. 9.3 In case the laboratory sample failed to pass the tests under article 8, all the tests shall be repeated using the importer sample. If the importer sample failed to pass the tests, the consignment shall be considered not in compliance with the standard specifications. If the importer sample passed, all the tests shall be repeated for the third time on the arbitration sample. If the arbitration sample passed all the tests indicated in article 8 the consignment shall be considered in compliance with this standard specification. 9.4 In case of dispute about the results indicated in article (9 .3), a composite sample shall be drawn from the same consignment and all the tests shall be repeated. If the second sample passed the tests the consignment shall be considered in compliance, otherwise the consignment shall not be considered in compliance. ‘Sudanese Standard SDS 1056:2017 10.
