WIND TURBINE

OBJECTIVE: To find the best and suitable wind turbine parts to produce an electricity
that powers 400 houses or more and to see if it’s affordable or suitable for the people to
build

In our research, the best wind turbine design and the most efficient blade design
is the Curve Blade Air Flow and Performance because the drag is perpendicular to the
lift and is in the same direction as the air flow along the blade surface. The blade of the
turbines has the length of 116ft blades and the body of the turbines consists of 212ft tall
for the total of 328ft. According to Sudhamshu A.R, It says that the best pitch angle for
the wind turbine is 5 degrees and it is the optimum for wind turbine when the operating
velocity is 7 m/s for optimum power generation. According to drømstørre.dk, the blades
of the turbine should be twisted because of the rotor. The rotor blade will stop giving lift
if the blade of the turbine will not attack the length of the turbine’s blade. According to
quora.com, the blades should be thin because it keeps the drive train costs low, a
wind turbine must capture the energy in fast-moving air and rotate at relatively high
speed within its limits, so as to avoid excessive noise generation.

The wind turbine design should power-up the 400 houses that are given in the
Lab Goal. The constraints that we encountered is the location of the Wind Turbine. Our
first choice of location is the Offshore because it has the most energy that can generate
but the challenges may occur like the cost of money for the installation of the turbine
and the maintenance of it may cost higher than the actual turbine build. The second
location that we pick is the Hills because it has a good power generation and has a
good watt production. The installation and maintenance maybe difficult but the cost is
lower than the Offshore.

DESIGN PLAN

The design that the group 5 present consist of 45m blade length of the blades
and has the height of 120m tall for the total of 165m tall. The location of the destined
wind turbine where at the Hills because it provides good generation for the wind
turbines. The blade pitch is at 3 degrees in variable and the blades should be twisted
because of the rotors of the wind turbine. The airfoil should be thin because it helps the
wind turbine to occupy more of the wind even within the buildings.

REVISIONS AND TEST RESULTS:

SUMMARY
Our wind turbine is located at the Hills and its design consists of 45m blade
length (all 3 blades) and 120m tall body with the total of 165m. We gave our wind
turbine a 3-degree angle in variable of blade pitch to occupy more of that wind that the
turbine is getting. The blade should be twisted because the of the rotors rotation of
getting that wind speed that we needed. The airfoil should be thin because it helps the
wind turbine to occupy more of the wind even within the buildings. The constraints that
we tackle in building a wind turbine in the Hills are the installation and maintenance
might have a difficult time because Hills can be dangerous, it’s steep and it’s not level in
the ground but the watts its produce are moderate or good and it is less cost than the
Offshore location. We pick the 45m blade length because according to our research the
original blade length is 116ft so we think about it that if we see that the original blade is
that long then probably the blade length needs to be long too so we pick the 45m blade
length because the Laboratory can only give that as the longest blade. It is the same as
the turbine’s body. The first design that we made is at the Offshore location because it
takes a lot wind and it can power at least 800 houses but we saw that the maintenance
and the installation of the turbine cost a lot of money because the wind turbine is
located at the sea so we think of a solution and revised our wind turbine. The second
design that we made is located at the Hills. We picked this location because it can be
done but the maintenance and installation might have a difficult time to build and it is
less cost than the Offshore location and it can produce a manageably amount of
electricity to power 400-700 houses.

CONCLUSION

We conclude that the most efficient location of our wind turbine is in the hills,
because it is less cost its construction and manufacture. Also fits to our goal of 400 or
more homes supplied by the generated electricity.

We conclude that in our virtual lab it has a good location which is Hills. The Hill
locations is better than the other location and they have a good design which has to
create a strong and sturdy blade that can catch strong wind, and lastly, it can power
houses up to 400-700 houses and have a decent and considerably high generation of
watts.
RECOMMENDATION

We the young scientist recommends to do more research to ensure if your goal

or vision is suits to your first trial. Also search ideas to gain knowledge about the topic or
activities assigned to us and develop their understanding skills about topic or activities.

We the young scientist briefly recommends that location is the most important
part of placing a wind turbine. It is need to be place where the wind is strong and
reliable and for the blade length, we need it to be longer wind turbine blade length
because for the greater power production. Blades capture the wind which forces the
rotation of the rotor; longer blades mean more area for the wind to push against, which
means greater force and rotational power and for the blade pitch this describe the angle
of the blade and for the blade twist is the twisting of the blade under load changes, the
angle of the attack and the loading of the blade that’s why we recommend this and for
the tip shape. The tip shape should be thin; this gives a good starting torque from the
wide part while reducing drag at the faster moving. A tall tower is the single most
important factor in the economic viability of a small wind system
