Zootopia

Feminist Approach
In the movie Zootopia, we can see that all female animals are ignored, belittled, and mistreated
because most male animals believe in the stereotype that women are incompatible to work in a
male-dominated workplace.
Judy Hop, the main character of the movie is depicted as a female officer working in a male-
dominated workplace, Judy hop was given a job as a traffic officer since the chief officer thinks
that women aren’t capable of working as police officers, but Judy hop(a female character)
changed this type of thinking, by proving her worth by fighting crimes and unraveling various
incidents happening in the city which most citizen and police officer won’t notice. The director
of the movie wanted to portray that women are just like men but much more intelligent and
stealthier when it comes to thinking.

Marxism Approach
Zootopia portrays the real-life situation of our government system where most people at the top
of the hierarchy abuse the power the citizen has trusted them with. The city also consists of 90%
prey and only 10% predator, which means only those at the top get to live a safe and luxurious
life while those at the bottom live their life fearing that one day they will die and become food
for the predators. This type of thinking started when Judy Hop (Prey) unravels the mystery of
why animals suddenly become enraged and disappear, not long after, he found that the mayor of
the town(Predator) was the culprit behind why animals started disappearing one after another,
The citizen of the town gets enraged by the mayor’s doing and started formulating stereotypes
that all the predator abuses the power the citizen trusted them with, but on further investigation,
Judy hop found that Bellwether(Secretary) was the main culprit which then led to a good
reputation for the predators and prey. This type of problem also happens mostly in our
unbalanced government system wherein only those at the top get to live a quiet and safe life,
while those at the bottom get to live a miserable and unhealthy life.

Formalist Approach
In the fiction Zootopia, predators and prey coexist together in the same city. If you consider that message,
it begs an interpretation that is almost certainly at odds with the film's purportedly enlightened attitude.
It's difficult for members of a hated class to get past the things that make the majority hate them. The
movie is correct to point out that sloths are slow-moving, that bunnies breed a lot, and that predators are
physiologically predisposed to desire to eat herbivores. But if you use all of this as a metaphor for the
society in which we live, you should consider which racial or ethnic groups are "predators" and which are
"prey" (for purposes of metaphor translation).
Ginnifer Goodwin (“Big Love”) voices Judy Hops (The Main Character); a red fox (Partner of Judy
Hop/Supporting character) named Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman); Bellwether (Secretary of the
Mayor/Main Antagonist) voiced by (Jenny Slate); and lastly Mayor Lionheart (Supporting character)
voiced by (J.K.Simmons).

Reader-Response
Zootopia focuses on metaphors that describe different types of stereotypes towards males, and
females, the hierarchical system, and the whole government system. Zootopia is packed with
moments that talk about enduring and overcoming various types of discrimination, and racism.
Don’t let others’ voices choose what direction you must choose in life, we must stand tall and
endure every challenge we face in life because only those who stand tall till the end can grasp the
fresh air of success in life. The director did a good job in expressing jokes which tackles different
types of issue in the real world, and which most certainly kids and adults can understand easily.
