LAN, MAN, WAN, PAN, WLAN - these are five types of networks.

2. Name any four protocols and its definition.


TCP-Transfer Control Protocol-TCP enables the sender and receiver to establish a
connection.
HTTP- HyperText Transfer protocol-It is the standard set of rules that is used to access
web pages found in the World Wide Web
SMTP-Simple Mail transfer protocol-It is an internet standard for email transmission
ISP-Internet Service Providers-It has a direct connection to the Internet.

3. Define DSL.
DSL-Digital Subscriber Line-It is a technology for bringing high bandwidth information
over ordinary telephone lines

4. What is the blog and newsgroups? State it briefly.


Blogs and Newgroups.
A weblog is an online account of an individuals ideas, activities, opinions and advice. A
blog is a webpage that serves as a publicly accessible personal journal for individual.
A newsgroup are discussion groups that allow people to communicate with each other
and is like a community bulletin board. All the messages in newsgroups are stored and
distributed on several computers instead of a single central server.

5. List out the Internet Service Providers.

8. Cable service connects to the Internet via cable TV. It uses a broadband
connection and can be faster that both dial-up and DSL service. File Transfer
Protocol is used for upload/download files from remote sites.

9. Explain the terms URL and ISP in brief. Given one example for each.
URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator, and is used to specify addresses on
the World Wide Web. A URL is the fundamental network identification for any
resource connected to the web (e.g., hypertext pages, images, and sound files).
Example: www.google.com
An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is the industry term for the company that can provide
you with access to the Internet, typically from a computer.
