Journal #2: Dignity of the Human Person

If you are a servant leader in a community, how will you promote human dignity of the
person? Cut out /Print out pictures (5-10 sentences and support answers by creating a slogan).

We are guided by Catholic moral principles: respect for human life and the dignity
of each person, the importance of family, the value of work, and a duty to encourage the
participation of all in our community life. As a servant leader, we must follow these
principles.

As a servant leader, I uphold and promote the social catholic doctrine's principles in
order to promote the dignity of the human person. By upholding each person's rights and
respecting them, I aim to uphold human dignity. Another method I advocate for respecting
people's dignity is by encouraging them to respect their personal space and belongings as
well as recognizing each person's fundamental dignity.

WE MUST ALL TREAT EACH OTHER WITH RESPECT AND HUMAN DIGNITY
Journal # 3: Subsidiarity
To cite a concrete forms/expression of subsidiarity both in the personal and
communitarian level.
1. Personal Level

Cite the experience of subsidiarity in the family

• Parents to children
• As a child to siblings or members of the family

2. Communitarian Level (Support the programs with pictures)

• Barangay Problems
• Cebu City Programs
• Personal Participation

1. a) Parents to children

In my household, a specific instance of subsidiarity between parents and children

occurred when my mother questioned what college course I ought to enroll in. Since the
definition of subsidiarity is the idea that individual members of a large organization should be
allowed to make decisions on matters that directly impact them rather than leaving those
decisions up to the group as a whole, I refer to this as an example of subsidiarity. Like so, my
mother asked me what I wanted to study in college rather than deciding for me.

b.) As a child to siblings or members of the family

Subsidiarity occurs in my family when it comes to deciding how to divide up the

household tasks between my sister and I. I refer to this as an illustration of subsidiarity since I
discussed the issue with her in order to reach a better decision rather than deciding it on my
own.
2. a.) Barangay Problems

In my barangay, an example of subsidiarity occurred when all barangay authorities

formally met to discuss how to safeguard the safety of the community on All Souls Day.

b.) Cebu City Programs

In Cebu City, subsidiarity occurred when the local government provided free
vaccinations to its residents. It involves subsidiarity in that the government has essentially
allow the public determine whether or not they want to get vaccinated.

c.) Personal Participation

One instance of subsidiarity that I experienced was as
we were creating our business plan, when we were deciding
what we ought to be marketing.
Journal #4: Human Rights and Participation

Choose one of the 30 rights that presented to you that you want to develop as an
advocacy.

Human rights are norms that aim to protect everyone from serious political, judicial,
and social violations. Human rights are privileges that we enjoy merely by virtue of being
human; no state has the authority to bestow them. No matter our nationality, sex, ethnicity,
race, color, religion, nationality, or any other status, we are all endowed with these universal
rights. Human rights include things like the freedom to practice one's religion, the opportunity
for a fair trial if accused of a crime, the prohibition against torture, and the right to education.

Advocacy for human rights is widespread in today's society. Gender equality

campaigning is just one example of many. If I were to have an advocacy of a particular human
right, it would be the right to education. Right of education states that everyone has a right to
education and that "Education shall be directed to the full development of the human
personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.
This is the human right that I advocate because I believe in the importance of education in our
society. Education is a right yet only a few has an access to it. It means that there has to be
done for this right to be fully implemented.

I hope that the government and its citizens will work together toward making education
affordable, but preferably free. I hope that my advocacy will make people realize that education
is important in bridging the economic and social gaps present in society by giving everyone an
equal opportunity at a good life.
