1.2 Port description

The following ports of the system must be accessible in the public network environment,
also The server must ensure that the following ports are idle for installation.

If there are port conflicts, you need to configure port mapping for these services in the
router or network security group. After configuration, you must enter the mapped external
network port in web management system -> Service Management -> network
configuration.

1.3 Install the Howen VssService
1.Double click the installation package file to open the following dialog box, and then click
Next:

2.Enter the service internet IP address.Fill in the fixed IP address of the machine.
you can configure the public IP or domain name. If you ignore this step, you can configure
the public IP or domain name in the web management system-> Service Management
-> network configuration after you install it.

3. Select to accept the license agreement, and then click next to enter the installation
folder path selection. It is installed on Disk C by default, and the installation location can
be changed. Click next after completion.

4.Check whether all the service programs are running normally.

Note: Upgrade must stop all services first.

2.Basic Configuration
Two server side maintenance tools start in Windows program menu.

2.1 VSS Service Manger

After installation, you can automatically open the service management tool and load it into
automatic start-up. VSS Service manager is used to manage the start and stop of
services. Which includes Start Server,Stop Server,Start All Server,Stop All Server.

2.2 Configure the IP address and Ports

If you have not configure the IP address or the ports has been occupied by other program,
you can modify.
Web Login http://ip:9966 Default login info: admin / admin
Go to Server Manage page as below, modify it and Click “Submit”.
Besides, also need modify this file：

2.3 License
For testing period, you can add 10 MDVR on it and the valid period is 3 months as default.

For more license
1. Click “ Click to Get Application Code”
2. It will generate the Signature code. Copy and sent to us.
3. We will send the License code, input it and Submit it.

3.System settings
3.1 GPS / alarm data validity configuration
In order to keep the system running efficiently, the data table with large amount of data
such as GPS/alarm will automatically migrate the expired data to the historical data table
according to its validity period. Expiration time is configured in the installation directory.
Web \ webapps \ VSS \WEB-INF\classes\config\jdbc.properties.
Open it with TXT，the statusDataExpiermonth and alarmDataExpiermonth are the valid
period of status data (unit month) and alarm data (unit month).(The default validity period
of status data is 2 months, and the default validity period of alarm data is 3 months.)

Note: After this configuration changes, all services must be restarted by VSS server.

3.2 Alarm Strategy Video path

This is for saving alarm strategy video of VSS server.

Installation directory: storage\conf\setting.xml,search <storage>.

Open it with TXT, search the path

The default path is this “C:\Program Files (x86)\VssService\htdocs\vssFiles”

Save this setting.

Then go to the VssService\web\webapps\vss\WEB-INF\classes\config, configure the

same path, save it.

Note: After this configuration changes, Howen-StorageMedia services must be restarted
by VSS Server.

3.3 Auto download path

Access this path, find the “setting.xml”, edit and save it.

Then restart the “Howen-VsswifiDL” service.

3.4 Center Recording Path

VSS supports Real-time recording(Time recording) function. After make the setting and
device is online, it will auto record the sub-stream in server.
Access this path, find the “setting.xml”, edit and save it.

You can change the Path and video duration.

VssService\web\webapps\vss\WEB-INF\classes\config

Cloud Record Switch: -1 means off, 0 means sub-stream for recording, 1 means
Main-stream to record.
Res video Slice File Path: Must be same as “setting.xml”’s path.
Res video Slice Clear Time: The file saving days.
Note: After this configuration changes, all services must be restarted by VSS server.

Here is a bandwidth table for reference, considering there are not only live streaming
business, the actual bandwidth should be more than this.

Attention: Those bandwidth is download speed. Except the bandwidth, also need test the
HDD’s write speed. If over this speed, it will not save success and lead to program crash.

3.5 HFTP file Path

HFTP file is for the files come from the MDVR side via HFTP method. It contains Timing
snapshot, AI videos, alarm linkage videos.

Go to FTP server, and modify the path

Edit it and save it.

Then go to VssService\web\webapps\vss\WEB-INF\classes\config

Input the same path as FTP’s path. Save it.

Note: After this configuration changes, all services must be restarted by VSS server.

3.6 HTTPS
Apply for the ‘.key’ file and the ‘.crt’ file from the SSL supplier for these files.
Rename the ‘.crt’ file as ‘howen_web.cer’ and the ‘.key’ file as ‘howen_web.key’.
Then put these two files in this path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\VssService\nginx\x86\conf\ssl

And change the port of HTTPS, the default is 9965, which you can change to 443 or other
port.

Save it after change. Then restart the VSS server.

3.7 Re-upload the History message via Websocket
WebSocket the default mode is only transmit the real-time message, if need transmit the
history message, need turn on the switch for it.
Go to path: VssService\web\webapps\vss\WEB-INF\classes\config

Save it after change. Then restart the VSS server.

4. VSSBackups
Operating instructions:
1. Vssbackup is the software of VSS database and video backup tool.
2. The path of record file should be consistent with that in the storage service
configuration file (that <storage> item in the configuration file “storage\conf\setting.xml”)
3. Automatic backup only supports database backup.If you need to back up video
files,please use this software to back up manually.You must check the automatic backup
option and click back to start the automatic backup.

4.1 Record

Record Path:Browse and select record path

Note:The path of record file should be same with that in the storage service
configuration file.

4.2 Backups Select Item

Backup Path: Set a folder first, then Browse and select backup path

Two backup modes

1. Auto Backups.Check Auto Backups box,and at the bottom right corner can choose to
Cancel Auto Backups.Choose backup interval,including Every Day,Every Week,Every
Month.And specific Backup Time.
Then Click Start Backup button.

2.Backup Now
Click the Start Backup button to backup now.
If the backup is successful,the pop-up window displays “Execute Success”.

4.3 Recovery Select Item
Select the specific files in the next level path of the backup path.If the path is wrong,the
pop-up window displays “No Path”.

4.4 Upgrade the System

1. Download the latest upgrade file or package from Howen.

2. Backup the basic data, refer to 4.2 Backup--Backup Now.
Copy this time.properties file out. If the license lost after upgrade, you can copy this file
back.

3. Stop all services. It need about 5-10 minutes to stop all.

4. After all services are stopped, install the upgrade file, click Next all the time.
Attention: If you find can not install, check in Task manager, Should some services has not
been stopped success. End it directly.

5. The system will run automatically after installation.
