Runway excursion

Definition
A runway excursion occurs when an aircraft departs the runway in use
during the take-off or landing run. The excursion may be intentional or
unintentional.

Causes

- Unstabilized approach
- Strong tail wind on final approach
- Slippery runway
- Contaminated runway
- Tire blow out
- Poor brake action
Dangers
- Severe structural damage
- Explosion
- Death or injury to people on board the aircraft
- Disaster
