Statement of Purpose for the

Himalayan Construction Program
Why you should choose me?

By nature, I'm a curious person who seeks to understand why things are the way they
are. Himalayan architecture piqued my interest because it has evolved over a long period of
time and has been passed down from generation to generation, demonstrating a profound
understanding of building science that responds to the frequent seismic tremors that rock by
making their structure earthquake proof.

My batch recently went to Auroville for a hands-on workshop; it was my rst time
interacting with architects on the eld, which broadened my horizons on how to approach
architecture as a whole.

Being a part of this trip is important to me because I enjoy culture and learning about
how native peoples use kath-kuni architecture, which differs from conventional building
methods. It is built on horizontal beams rather than vertical columns, using locally available
wood and stone, and is an excellent example of vernacular architecture.

My personal values align with The North's (Architectural Firm) goal of introducing a
design movement through innovation and craft from the past that gives us a hope- lled
architecture, inspiring indigenous craftsmanship to shape its own future.

Their Analytical Design process is what i seek to learn from the trip if given the
opportunity to do so.
