1.0 INTRODUCTION (Operant Conditioning Explanation)
When we talk about operant conditioning, operant conditioning is referring to an idea that we
can increase or decrease a certain behavior by adding a consequence. This new way of
learning was discovered by BF Skinner the father of operant conditioning. There are two main
components in operant conditioning, reinforcement and punishment.
When we relate this learning method in classroom, if a student get good marks in final exam,
the teacher can give something special for their student like giving a chocolate as a positive
reinforcement. If the reinforcement is negative, the teacher still want to increase the student’s
pleasant behavior, but this time by removing something unpleasant for the students like giving
them difficult tasks. Next, if the students very lazy to done their homeworks maybe the teacher
can add their task or can ask the students some questions as a positive punishment, and when
the students get low marks in their final exam, the teachers can remove something pleasant for
the students like recess time, as a negative punishment.
