0 Depth explanation about PBD (Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah)

In these 21th century, PBD is a continuous assessment in teaching and learning sessions to
obtain information about student’s development progress, abilities and achievements. PBD is not
only to compare the level of mastery between one student with another, but it aims to see the
progress of students in learning while helping teachers to improve their teaching. PBD is mainly
use for primary school students and secondary school students.

PBD occurs formatively and summatively as learning, for learning and about learning. There
are some differences that we can identify in formative learning and summative learning.
Formative learning is mainly focus about how the students learn continuously to improve their
learning process while summative learning is what the students learn in the end of the period
time to see the quality of student’s achievement by testing them with giving worksheet.

There are three assessment of learning that we can see in PBD. Among them are, assessment
for learning, which is involves teachers using evidence of student’s knowledge, understanding
and skills to inform their teaching. This is a part from formative learning. Next is assessment as
learning, which happens when students are their own assessors. The students monitor their own
learning, by asking questions and using what they know and can do and how to use assessment
for new learning. The last one is assessment of learning, this assessment is obviously to see
student achievement or mastery at a strategic time, usually at the end of a learning period. This
assessment allows students, teachers, parents, and the school to know the quality of student
learning. This is usually like summative learning.

In addition, PBD is an important thing in teacher’s achievement. There are some valid reasons
about why PBD is important. Through PBD the teachers can identify the strengths and weakness
of students in learning. The way teachers can identify student’s strengths is giving them some
interesting activities like ask them to do a scrapbook about Myself and the way teachers can
identify student’s weakness is ask them to read a passage and try to explain what they
understand. Moreover, the teachers can trace the overall progress of students by giving them a
quiz or a test about the topic they have learned. Finally, the teachers can access the attitude and
learning of students who need attention.
Besides that, PBD have characteristics. The first is holistic which means taking into account
the knowledge, skills and values desired in the curriculum as well as various cognitive, affective
and psychomotor levels. The next one is in various form like observation of activities carried
out , tests , presentations , projects , folios and so on. The last is, enable the students to display
various learning abilities and be fair to all students. To conclude the sentences, PBD is a class
assessment for students to achieve their learning process.
