ANTI DISCRIMNATION BILL (BASA FIRST SLIDE)

The word SOGIE is an acronym for Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and
Expression.

The fight for equality and anti-discrimination for the LGBT has existed for more
than decades. SOGIE Bill is one operation that seeks to put an end to
discrimination and inequality suffered by the LGBT community.

The bill defines these terms as follows:

- Sexual Orientation refers to a person who is sexually attracted. There are

about five subcategories in this section. They include;
- Asexual - This is a person who is not attracted to anyone
- Straight - This is an individual who has a sexual attraction to a
person of the opposite gender.
- Bisexual - It is a person who exhibits sexual attractions to persons
of the same gender, and those of the opposite gender.
- Gay - A man attracted to a fellow man.
- Lesbian - A woman attracted to a fellow woman.

- Gender Identity, on the other hand, is how a person presents or feels about
his/her gender. Under this category, human beings are subdivided into two,
cisgender and transgender.

- Cisgender is a gender identity that a person feels matches the

gender that a doctor assigned them at birth.
For example, if a doctor determines a person’s sex at birth to be
male and this person identifies as a man, they would be what is
known as cisgender.

- Transgender, people in this group have a feeling that they do not

belong to the gender assigned to them at birth. They have a
conviction that they belong to the opposite gender. The group is
identified as transmen and transwomen.

- Expression or Gender Expression is typically how an individual presents

him/herself. It could be in the way they dress, speak, or their general life,
among others.
The purpose of SOGIE Bill is to protect the Filipinos who are members of the
LGBTQ against discrimination. Whereas the rights of LGBTQ members are
protected on paper, Filipinos are no strangers to incidences of abuse and hate
against these minorities. Therefore, the SOGIE bill Philippines seeks to penalize
any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and
expressions.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ORDINANCE (BASA LANG)

ANTI BULLYING LAW (BASA MUNA)

Anti-bullying law also protect LGBTQ students from bullying by other students,
teachers, and school staff on the basis of their sexual orientation and/or gender
identity. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, nonbinary or
otherwise gender non-conforming youth and those perceived as LGBTQI+ are at
an increased risk of being bullied.

According to my research, most of the LGB students reported not going to

school because of bullying. Students who identified as "not sure" of their sexual
orientation also reported being bullied on school property, being cyberbullied,
and not going to school because of safety concerns.

Bullying puts all youth at increased risk for depression, suicidal ideation, misuse
of drugs and alcohol, experiencing sexual violence, engaging in unsafe sex
practices, and can affect academics as well.

So anti bullying law, bukod sa pagpapalaganap ng awareness. Mapeprevent din

nito yung mga scenario such as depression, being suicidal, etc. na kung tutuusin
sobrang hirap na sitwasyon lalo na sa mga bata pa lang.

LIVING CONDITIONS (BASA MUNA)

Each religion has their own views in terms of homosexuality po.

ROMAN CATHOLICISM
- First is yung Roman Catholicism, it is one of the active organizations in the
country in opposition to the LGBT community.
- It is because that the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines
states that marriage should only exist between man and a woman.
- Pinapakita na against talaga sila sa same sex marriage.
- They also stated that "A homosexual union is not and can never be a marriage as
properly understood and so-called."
- Pinaniniwalaan ng mga Roman Catholic na there are only two genders na
ginagawa ni God, a male and female, wala nang iba pa.
- However, according to Archbishop Villegas, "being a homosexual is not a sin. It is
the state of a person. “The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines made
a statement welcoming the LGBT community, stating that gay people should be
"welcomed with respect and sensitivity.

METROPOLITAN COMMUNITY CHURCH

- It is a local churches that consider themselves as ecumenical Christian church

which perform weddings for LGBTQI+ couple “regardless of their Christian
background”
- The church leader said that “weddings are in inherent right of people who love
each other”
- Dito naman po sa Metropolitan Community Church are in favor of same sex
marriage.
- So these may result a good relationship between them and LGBTQI+

PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENT CHURCH

- Ito naman yung church na dating against sa LGBT community na ngayon ay

nagbago na ang kanilang pananaw towards sa LGBT community.
- The apology statement's groundwork first came up in 2014, when a gay man
articulated during the church plenary his query about the church's plans for
sexual minorities.
- This led to discussions among the newly elected set of national youth officers, led
by an openly gay president and a lesbian executive vice president, which would
later be succeeded by another openly gay president. The church position on
LGBT persons was officially adopted by the entire church in February 2017.
