COTERMINAL ANGLES

ARC LENGTH AND AREA OF A

SECTOR

QUARTER 2 WEEK 2
Coterminal angles: are angles in standard position
(angles with the initial side on the positive x-axis) that
have a common terminal side.
Exercise

A. Find the angle between 0 and 360 (if in degrees) or

between 0 rad and 2π rad (if in radians) that is coterminal
with the given angle.

1. 7360
2. -28048’65”
3. 13π/2 rad
Answers
• Find the angle between -360 and 0 (if in degrees) or
between -2π rad and 0 rad (if in radians) that is
coterminal with the given angle.

1. 1420
2. -40001’23”
3. π/6 rad
Arc Length and Area of a Sector
Trivia
• pi—which is written as the Greek letter for p, or π—is the ratio of the
circumference of any circle to the diameter of that circle.
• Regardless of the circle's size, this ratio will always equal pi. In decimal
form, the value of pi is approximately 3.14.
• But pi is an irrational number, meaning that its decimal form neither
ends (like 1/4 = 0.25) nor becomes repetitive (like 1/6 = 0.166666...).

• (To only 18 decimal places, pi is 3.141592653589793238.)

Seatwork
1. In a circle of radius 7 feet, find the length of the arc that
subtends a central angle of 5 radians.
2. A central angle θ in a circle of radius 20 m is subtended by
an arc of length 15 π. Find the measure of θ in degrees.
3. Find the area of a sector of a circle with central angle that
measures 750 if the radius of the circle is 6 m.
Quarter 2 Week 2
WRITTEN WORKS
Find the smallest positive angle and smallest negative angle
coterminal with the following angles. Show your complete solution.
1. 6850
2. 4510
3. -1,4000
4. 960045’34”
5. 29 π/6
6. -3 π/2
PERFORMANCE TASK
1. Find the length of an arc of a circle with radius 21 m
that subtends a central angle of 150.
2. A central angle θ in a circle of radius 9 m is subtended
by an arc of length 12 m. Find the measure of θ in
radians.
3. Find the radius of a circle in which a central angle of
π/6 rad determines a sector of area 64 m2.
