Summary of the Article

The present article aimed was to examine the relationship between project planning processes
and project success. The researchers identified four planning input factors such as (human,
management, technical and organizational factors) they are considered which is believed to
affect the quality of planning. The study is based on data obtained from different construction
projects performed in Ethiopia and includes an analysis on statistical correlation between
planning input factors and planning processes, and between planning processes and project
success.

1.2 Method of data collection and analysis

The study was used quantitative survey with a semi-pre-coded standardized questionnaire to
collected data from different construction projects performed in Ethiopia. The study was used
Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to identify the key determining factors of project planning
on success.

2. Conclusion and Policy Recommendation

2.1 Findings

The major findings of the study as the researchers stated the result revealed in general, among
the different project planning activities conducted, only three activities (Time, Cost and Risk)
has a strong relationship with the project success.

2.2 Conclusion
The Investigators based on the result concluded that project manager must give due attention to
the input factors such as Technical Factor, Management Factor and Organizational Factor
which is different from the previous research result and this might be due to the fact that the
effects of human factor is more on procurement and integration than the other planning
processes.

2.3 Recommendation
The Authors finally recommended that key determining factors of project success in planning
phases for the specific industry be studied.

3. Evaluation based on the article

The present article clearly stated theories and argued that personal or Human Factor has no great
importance in the planning stage of the project by proofing with the experiment. The Researchers
supporting theories based on experiment among the nine planning activities only three of them
are Time, Cost and Risk are vital for project success.

4. What is the Contribute of this article with our topic we are studying?
Project planning plays an essential role in helping guide stakeholders, sponsors, teams, and
the project manager through other project phases. Planning is needed to identify desired
goals, reduce risks, avoid missed deadlines, and ultimately deliver the agreed product, service or
result. So based on the above insight Project planning is critical element for the project
achievement therefore this articles offered a lot of insights about using of effective project
planning for project successes.

5. Major Critiques
5.1 Strength of the study
The research procedure that the investigators used is very clear and not ambiguous to understand.
Furthermore, they supported and rejected theories by using appropriate experiment
methodologies and this emphasizes the accuracy and acceptability of their research results.

2
5.2 Limitations
There are a lot of variety of specific industries like Aerospace Industry, Transport Industry,
Telecommunication industry, Agriculture industry, Education Industry and Pharmaceutical
Industry. However, the researchers only selected construction industry. Thus, it was good to be
selected at least two or three of different industries for more clarity and verity of data amid at the
study.
