July Class Session:
11th Instrument Devices & Control System: Basic Control System

Discussions:
this morning we studied control system in an industrial process,
basically control system is an iterative logical scheme consisting of
monitoring, comparing (analysis), procedding (action). This iterative
scheme will continue to run to achieve a desired set of conditions in
this case normal and safe operation. control system based on the
procedure (action) that appears can be divided into continuous control
(control system with many choices of actions in the form of percent
openings) and relay control, which is also known as switch or discrete
is a control system with only two options, namely: on (full open) or off
(fully closed). the use of switches is usually for quick response or
emergency conditions, for example in the work of a shutdown valve.

one loop of the control system is a continuous correction loop in

the following stages: the sensor will detect the situation that occurs,
the non-standard outgoing signal will be sent to the transmitter to be
standardized then the standardized signal will be sent to the controller
for analysis (comparing) of the SP variable, PV and the result in the
form of MV which is the standard signal from the correction, the MV
signal contains a command that will be sent to the transducer which is
usually equipped with a positioner so that it reaches the desired
normal and safe operating set point faster, the transducer will trigger
the actuator to take action so that it occurs changes in conditions that
will be read back by the sensor, this loop continues to occur to keep
the operation at the desired set of operations in this case normal and
safe operation.
controller based on location can be divided into: local and HMI
(human machine interface). local controller is a control system that
cannot be remote, in other words this system does not appear in DCS
or PLC but works locally, an example of its application is in a discrete
control system. HMI controller is a control system that can be remote
because it appears in DCS or PLC.

Class Session:
Gathering System, Processing & Storage: Water Treatment Plant

Discussions:
next we learn about gathering systems, especially for processes
in WTP, WTP is a work area to process water needs both intended as
water for process and water for portable, water for process is generally
in the form of boiler feed water or demin water, in the upstream oil
and gas industry, water The process is also engineered water for
injection and disposal needs, but it is not as complicated as treating
water for boiler feed.
In theory, we study the properties of water in the form of:
anomalous properties of water, physical properties of water, chemical
properties of water, and electrical properties of water.

The water treatment process in PPSDM WTP consists of several

stages: primary filtration, coagulant, flotation, floatation,
sedimentation, secondary filtration, disinfectant and storage
(distribution).

Practice Session:
Gathering System, Processing & Storage: Water Treatment Plant

Discussions:
next we learn, we visited the center for the supply and treatment
of industrial water and the cepu community at PPSDM Migas. From
several water pumps, raw water from the Bengawan Solo River is
channeled to two areas, Bakyard and Baksegaran. In bakyard, raw
water is given chemical substances alum (purifier), chlorine (deodorant
and color remover), dukem (flogtation maker so that it settles to the
top of the flog, merges and sinks). Gradually passing through several
tubs seattling gravity is carried out so that it reaches clarity in the last
tub. water from the bakyard is pumped to WTP for filtering using
quartz sand. but previously aerated first to remove toxic gases and
bind oxygen. after the quartz sand filter, the water is stored in a
temporary tank and then pumped to the final reservoir, but when it
reaches the final reservoir, clean water will be sprayed with chlorine to
remove germs. From the final reservoir, the water is then distributed
to agencies, stems, Pertamina, Wisma2, and the community.
from the fresh water tank, water is pumped to the CPI
(corporoted plate interceptor) along with chemical injection of alum
from the flow, which occurs when entering the CPI, it is expected that
the sediment will drop due to gravity and drain every hour because the
shape of the CPI is in the form of a conical box plate, from the CPI the
water will fall. to the industrial tub and flowed to the boiler feed needs
and processes in the refinery.
July Practice Session:
12th HSSE Pertamina EP Field Cepu

Discussions:
today we visited HSSE PT Pertamina EP Field Cepu, here we are
welcome to see various safety learning facilities including the cinema
room, we watched the LSR and Golden Rules from Pertamina EP, we
also watched a drill simulation film for fire prevention in CPP Gundih
work area. Then we were invited to enter the exhibition room to see
various work safety tools such as PPE, various manuals, safety
documents in the form of JSA and SIKA, safety id cards and passport
safety were also shown and examples of LOTO tools. in the final session
we headed to the confined space exhibition space, here we have an
open discussion and share experiences related to the dangers of
working in this confined space.
July Practice Session:
13th Gathering System, Processing & Storage CPP Gundih Pertamina EP

Discussions:
today we made a field visit to Gundih CPP, our arrival began with
an overview explanation regarding the operational process in Gundih,
our main focus was on materials related to the supporting material
supply unit or what we usually known as the utility unit, this unit is the
place where drinking water is produced to make drinking water. steam
that is useful for supporting operations, raw water for demin (raw
water) comes from groundwater wells which are processed to remove
minerals to produce demin water. Raw water that is stored in the pond
is also used for fire water needs, water that is also produced from wells
is also processed here, usually water that is free from film oil, which is
above the threshold value, will be tested for content before being
injected. the utility unit also serves as an N2 (Nitrogen) supply area,
which uses a nitrogen escape filter, N2 gas needs for purging and
pressurized tank blankets, air instruments are also provided in this
unit, but use compressed dry air. In the utility area, there are also 3
GTG units that use diesel as the starter power, normal operation 2
active, 1 standby, and 1 DEG as a switch to keep the essential units
(DCS/PLC and safety instrumented system) on to ensure safe and
secure operation.

July Class Session:

14th Gathering System, Processing & Storage: Heat Exchanger

Discussions:
today we learn the principle, use, and working of HE (heat
exchanger) units. The selection of flow construction in the HE unit is
based on the effectiveness of the heat transfer that occurs, there are
two choices of concurrent (direct flow) and counter current
(countercurrent). In general, the fluid with a higher temperature will
be placed in the tube to keep the heat from being released into the
environment, but the main thing is that the placement of the fluid in
the shell and tube is based on maintenance, operation, reliability,
construction, safety, and economy.
Class Session:
Gathering System, Processing & Storage: Steam Properties

Discussions:
next we learn about steam properties, classifying steam based on
its properties, how steam can be formed based on the pressure and
temperature interpenetration in a vessel, studying the use of steam for
process needs in the upstream oil and gas industry and downstream oil
and gas.
July Class Session:
15th Electrical: Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)

Discussions:
today we learn about Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), the
use of UPS is intended to ensure uninterrupted (continuous) electricity
supply for vital loads and essential loads, and also protect loads to get
a stable frequency. The 4 important components in a UPS unit are
rectifier, battery pack, inverter and static switch. UPS types are
distinguished based on their working principle and available capacity.

Class Session:
Gathering System, Processing & Storage: Gas Dehydration System

Discussions:
today we learn about how the process of gas dehydration or the
process of removing water elements that are still included in the gas
stream. This is important because natural gas that still contains water
can cause problems in processing equipment such as corrosion,
hydration, and also the presence of water that can reduce the calorific
value of selling gas. we also study absorption and adsorption systems
using several types of solvents and filters.

July Class Session:

16th Mechanical Diesel and Gas Engine

Discussions:
today we learn about how the principles, types, and how an
engine works. the engine method can be categorized as an external
combustion engine and an internal combustion engine. studying
engines based on their fuel feed, diesel engines in general use the
compression combustion method and gas engines use the aid of a
spark plug to create a combustion spark.
