TITLE OF Effects of Inter-Active Application in the academic
RESEARCH performance of Grade 8 Science students
DIVISION Rizal Province

Context and Rationale

In merely 2 years after the pandemic students and teachers experience difficulties in
delivering quality education, in the research of Barrot et.al 2021, findings further revealed that
the COVID-19 pandemic had the greatest impact on the quality of the learning experience and
students’ mental health. It is important to develop ways to strengthen the educational plans and
strategies, Thus ICT has a big role in this part.

And by this Educational researcher tend to find ways in educating students, different
strategies and interventions have been developed to ease the situations, and that plan shows
excellent interventions. and one of the examples of this is the extensive use of ICT, this period
shows the importance of ICT in imparting. The Studies revealed that technologically literate
teachers have important roles to play for the effective and efficient use of technology in schools
(Seufert, Guggemos, &Sailer, 2020).

Also, it is stipulated in Deped order no. 78 s. 2010 that “public schools with appropriate
technologies that would enhance the teaching-learning process and meet the challenges of the
21st century”, it is necessary that schools that have capacity and have teachers with appropriate
knowledge on ICT that it should be integrate on the teaching and learning process.

And Differentiated approach also must be observe in order to uplift the knowledge of the
students, and According to Dale’s cone of Experience Theory the accumulation of learning
when the students watch a still pictures can only have a 30% of remembering the lesson, thus
when the students see and hear the lesson the accumulation of learning is much high giving a
50% of retention, which include viewing an exhibit and watching video clips. (Edgar Dale,
1960), thus visual and auditory learning can give the students a high percentage of retention in
the lesson.

Thus, foregoing research’s influence, the development of teaching and learning program
for grade 8 science, its purpose is to uplift the ICT knowledge of students and to aid the teaching
and learning process.

With this idea the researcher tends to create a program that will help the students, with
this the researcher hopes that scores of the students will increase and helps the students to
understand the role of ICT in science and technology.

Action Research Questions

Specifically, it will answer to the following questions:

1. What is the level of academic achievement before and after the introduction
of Inter-Active Application on the grade 7 students?

2. Is there any significant difference on the level of academic achievement

before and after the introduction of Inter-Active Application in teaching grade 7
students?

3. What is the perception of the teachers used the Inter-Active Application in

terms of:
a. Objective.
b. Usefulness.
c. Presentation.

Proposed Innovation, Intervention and Strategy

The research would like to determine the effects of Inter-Active Application on the
academic performance of grade 8 students in Vicente Madrigal National High School for the
1st and 2nd Quarter for the school year 2022-2023, this is based from the observation of the
researcher, that students hard to understand some concepts and theories of science in just
merely teaching the subject, the researcher tend to create a program using PowerPoint
presentation that will help to increase the retention and also improving the skills of the students
in the used of ICT.

The use of Inter-Active Application in the Philippines became rampant, and many ideas
became way to improve the teaching and learning process in any subjects, such example is the
study of Etcuban and Pantinople 2018, they stated that the study revealed that there is an
increase in the posttest scores of the control and experimental groups. It was concluded that the
use of the mobile application in teaching mathematics to Grade 8 students had helped enhance
students’ achievement and learning. The researchers recommend that the proposed action plan
be used and monitored to help students in mathematics.

Likewise in the study of Olea 2019, Based on the findings and conclusions, the researcher
developed an offline game-based interactive instructional material that supports instruction and
collaboration and could be used to enhance students’ critical thinking and problem-solving
skills to achieve better learning outcomes.

And with this researcher decided to create an Inter-Active Application for teaching grade
8 science students.

The Inter-Active Application will be made from the program called PowerPoint; it is a
program tend to create presentation but exploring this application it may use as a programing
language to create new application for teaching. Using this program, the researchers will create

a program that has it owns modules inside with related videos and activities related to the topic,
it will serve as additional learning materials aside from the modules and learning packet that is
given.

Action Research Methods

A. Participants and/or other Sources of Data and Information

The study will focus on the effects of Inter-Active Application that will be created by
the teachers
The participant to this study is grade 8 students for the school year 2022-2023, based
on the current population of the school it is expected that their will be 1300 students.
The major source of data in the study will be the scores of the students in their pre-test
and post-test based on the summative assessments. These pre-test and post-test are in the form
of multiple-choice type questions that will be used to assess students’ individual performance.
The content of the pre-test and post-test are questions which are based on the topics of quarter
1 and 2 of science.
Part also of the source of the data is the answered survey by the teachers and students
it will reflect the acceptability of the made Inter-Active Application.
A table of specification will be constructed and served as the basis in the items to be
made. The developed questions will be administered to grade 8 students for the item analysis
of the questions. Revisions based on the results of the item analysis and on the recommendation
of the experts who validated the test will be made.
B. Data Gathering Methods

The respondent of the study is composed of 1300 Grade 8 students. The researchers
will used one shot experimentation design, this design allows the researchers to analyze the
data and to create appropriate conclusion.
In the 1st phase of the study, students will be undergone 60 item pretests, it will be given
on a paper and pencil method, after the administration of pretest the conduct of the study begins
by giving the electronic copy of the Inter-Active Application, after each topic a post test will
be given to see if there is subsequently increase on the scores of the students.

C. Data Analysis Plan

The data will be analysts using the following statistical tools:

1. To determined what is the level of academic achievement before and after the introduction
of Inter-Active Application on the grade 7 students, mean will be used

2. To determined is there any significant difference on the level of academic achievement

before and after the introduction of Inter-Active Application in teaching grade 7 students,
dependent T-test will be used.
