Dialogue about the history of Tobago

Tour guide: Good afternoon, my name is John Smith.

Me: Nice to meet you (shakes hand), my name is Adrian Ramroop.
John Smith: I am going to be your tour guide for the rest of your time being in
Tobago, your car ride to your resort will take about a fifteen minutes. So, I hear
you’re from Trinidad and never visited Tobago before.
Me: Yes! Never visited Tobago before. I am so excited.
John Smith: Since the drive to your resort is fifteen minutes, I will be telling you
the history about Tobago while we head to your resort. Ask any questions and I
will answer it for you.
Me: I would love to hear about Tobago. Can’t wait to hear this.
John Smith: First of all, let’s begin with the differences and similarities between
Trinidad and Tobago. For the differences, you know, Trinidad had a more mix
culture than Tobago and Spain ruled Trinidad and not Tobago, France ruled
Tobago.
Me: Wait really, I thought since Trinidad and Tobago is a Country, I thought it
would have been ruled by the same. Thanks for letting me know. So what are the
similarities?
John Smith: So for the similarities, both islands produced sugar and used African
slaves, also both islands were eventually ruled by the same which was Britain.
Me: Wow, so they were eventually ruled by the same later on, interesting.
John Smith: Yep! Now for place names, do you have any place names you want to
know about?
Me: Yes, I would like to hear one place name for French, Dutch, Courlander and 2
place names from the British.
John smith: Sure, No problem. So a place name for French is Belmont, for Dutch is
Nieuw Flushing, for Courlander is Courlander Bay and for British are Black Rock
and Calder hall.
Me: Thank you, but can you explain the term,” State of betweentity and who said
it.”
John Smith: Glad you asked, so the term” State of betweenity” means that
Tobago was in a state of two extremes and Dr. Eric Williams said it.
Me: Thank you for helping me understand. I couldn’t find this information
anywhere I looked.
John Smith: No problem, we are about five minutes away to your resort, so to
conclude this Tour guide, I will tell you about 2 Christian churches in Tobago in
1820’s. They are Anglican Church and Methodist church .This is the end of your
tour guide for today, I hoped you enjoyed this information about Tobago. Oh
look, we are almost at our destination. See you tomorrow when we are going to
explore Tobago.
Me: Thank you so much for being here, for giving me this information and for
answering my questions.
John smith: Glad I could help, Goodbye.
Me: Goodbye. See you tomorrow.
