2.a) Explain the importance of energy management programmes in


industries to improve the energy utilization.
b) Explain about check list for top management.

3.a) Explain the constructional features of Energy efficient motors with


the help of analyzing the loss distributions in standard motors.
b) A 40 HP motor is having the following duty cycle
40 HP – 15 minutes 20 HP – 20 minutes
10 HP – 5 minutes stop – 5 minutes.
Is this motor is efficient for its operation? Discuss the
recommendations.

4.a) Explain the location of capacitors for the improvement of power


factor.
b) Explain the effects of harmonics on power factor.

5.a) Explain the working of following instruments


(i) Pyrometer (ii) Tongue Testers (iii) Data logger
b) If a motor has an initial cost of Rs. 10000/- and its scrap value at
the end of 7 years is Rs. 2000/-. Determine the book value at the
end of each year by sum of years digits methods.

6.a) Write short notes on:


(i) Sample pay back method
(ii) Net present worth method.
b) A 40 hp motor having an efficiency of 92% is replaced with an
energy efficient motor of same rating of efficiency 94.5%. If the motor
works for 400hrs at power cost of Rs.0.05/Kwh find the pay back
period if old motor costs Rs. 70000/-, new motor cost is

Rs.10000/-. Find the saving by net present worth method over a


period of 10 years if rate of return is 10%, power rate increase 8%
and tax rate is 40%.
