MAIN IDEA TO BE LEARNED
The Medias and the Literacies
1. Media Literacy- It provides a framework to access, analyze, evaluate, create, and participate with media
messages in a variety of forms from print to video to the internet. It builds an understanding of the role of media in
society as well as essential skills of inquiry and self-expression needed for democratic citizens.
 Example: Media literacy moves beyond the traditional formats of written and print text and moves to
examining more contemporary sources. Some examples of media literacy include, but are not limited to
television, video games, photographs, and audio messages.

2. Information Literacy- is the ability to identify, find, evaluate, and use information effectively.
Example: of these include planning, searching (searching for information, searching the web, Boolean searching
and keywords) and evaluation (suitability and reliability of information source and currency of information).

3. Technology (Digital) Literacy- is the ability of an individual, working independently and with others, to responsibly,
appropriately and effectively use technology tools to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create and
communicate information.
 Example: Students who possess technology literacy are able to easily utilize a variety of digital devices
(e.g., computers, smartphones, tablets) and interfaces (e.g., e-mail, internet, social media, cloud
computing) to communicate, troubleshoot and problem solve in both academic and non-academic
surroundings.
