Introduction Day 1
Am I called? Will God’s will be obvious or hidden?
God Speaks!
Those two words generate almost an entire theology – one that points to a God who cares deeply about the details of our
lives, like where we live on mission with Him.

First, God is not unknowable. He puts Himself forward for us to know. He speaks to us and for us when we offer nothing in
return. He spoke and creation came into being ex nihilo. God’s ability to communicate is not dependent on our ability to hear.
He spoke and Lazarus was raised from the dead. He speaks and we are delivered from death and born again in Jesus Christ.

Second, being perfectly content in His internal union and glory, God has no need to speak to creation. His speaking is therefore
a voluntary expression of His love for us.

Third, God speaks in a way that we can understand. He knows that we are, to put it bluntly, stupid sheep. When sheep are
born, they do not know how to listen to their shepherd. But, as they grow in fellowship with the shepherd, they learn to hear
His voice amidst all other noises. God is our Shepherd, and His sheep learn to recognize His voice and follow Him (Jn. 10:27).

Fourth, God speaks today. He has spoken throughout history to His people and He still speaks to His people.

Sometimes, though, it is difficult to discern what God is saying. As maturing sheep within the Shepherd’s Kingdom, we are
continually learning how to recognize God’s voice. When faced with big decisions in our lives, we are often prone to confusion,
worry, discouragement, and inertia.

This lesson will help you understand how to grow in hearing God’s voice and follow His leadership. It will walk you through a v
variable to consider as you discern God’s will in going through your daily life.

Where does God want me to go to college?

Is God calling our family to move to another location?

Does God want me to take this job offer?
What school does God want me to go?
Is God calling me to be an international missionary?

God wants you to come to Him with these questions. He wants you to follow His leadership in the weighty matters of life as
well as the countless mundane decisions that you make every day. But how do you practically go about discerning the will of
God?

The Will of God, known as the divine will or God’s plan is the concept of a God having a plan for humanity. Ascribing a
volition or a plan to a God generally implies a personal God (God regarded as a person with mind, emotions, will).

Every Christian should seek to understand the will of the Lord. It is therefore, important to consider following five
progressive truths and remember that God’s will means God’s wish and desire.

1.It is God’s will that all Men should be saved. God desires the salvation of everyone. (2 Peter 3:9; Is 45:22; 53:6; Ez 33:11;
Jn. 1:29; 3:16) In His great mercy He has provided salvation for everyone. This is not to say that everybody will accept God’s
provision. The Word of God never leads us to believe that all will be saved, but it does teach that all may be saved (Rom
10:13).
2. It is God’s will that those whom He saves should be sanctified. If you are His child, then God’s will for you is that you
should be holy; that is whole; clean; and constantly being filled with the Holy Spirit (Eph. 5:18).

3.It is God’s will that those whom He saves and sanctifies should serve Him. We are saved to serve. But what is Christian
service? Look at Rom. 12:1) The fundamental meaning of service for God is that we present ourselves wholly to God and
place ourselves absolutely at His disposal for Him to do His work in and through us; this is His will for every one of His
children. The sphere and the nature of our service may be varied, but the meaning of it is always the same (Rom. 12:1). In
the light of this, are you His servant?

4.It is God’s will that those whom He saves and sanctifies and who serve Him should also suffer for (and with) Him. Let this
truth sink in, for many of God’s children are not instructed in it! (1 Peter 3:17). We can suffer because it is the will of God for
us to suffer (1 Peter 4:19).

5.It is God’s will that those whom He saves and sanctifies, and who serve Him and suffer for Him, should always
understand and know His will for them. The question of knowing God’s will is with some of us a very real problem, but
should this be so in the light of the following promises – Ps. 25:9; 32:8; 73:24; Proverbs 3:5-6; 16:3; Is. 58:11; Jn 16:13 and
James 1:5-6?

How may we know God’s will? How does He reveal His will to us?
*by His WORD, in response to our study (2 Timothy 2:15). The more we study the Word of God the more we become
acquainted with the things which are pleasing to Him and which He desires in the lives of His children (Acts 9:6; Jn. 2:5).

*by His PROVIDENCES, in response to our surrender (Rom. 12:1-2). When we are seeking God’s guidance on a certain
matter we must take into account all the circumstances, and trust Him so to arrange these that we may understand His will
(Ps. 37:5).
*by His Holy Spirit, in response to our earnest prayer (Rom. 8:26-27). We can be sure of God’s will when the clear teaching
of the Word, the providences and the voice of the Holy Spirit all harmonize (1 Jn. 5:14-15).

 Firm- up Day 2
 Sacred Scriptures:
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 “This is the will of God, your holiness…”
Mt. 4:18-20 “Come after me, and I will make fishers of men”

Each is called to follow God’s will to love and holiness in any state of life one will pursue.

How can I be holy?

The word “holiness” in the New Testament means to be “set apart”. In the Old Testament holiness was generally
connected with God’s perfection. How can we be set apart and perfect? All people have sinned (Rom. 3:23) and are
imperfect. Our only option to be set apart is through the salvation offered through Jesus Christ. When we believe in Jesus
as Lord, He cleanses us from sin and makes us holy. Theologians often refer to this concept as positional sanctification.
God calls us holy even though we still commit sins during this life.

In addition to being “made” holy, we are called to live holy lives. We are commanded to avoid the ways we practiced
before becoming a Christian and live according to God’s ways. We can only do this by living by the power of God’s Spirit,
following the principles found in God’s Word.

Theologians refer to this daily practice of living for God to become more holy as progressive sanctification. As we seek to
follow God’s will each day, we can increasingly become holy as we become more like Christ. Our goal should be to say like
Paul, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.” (1 Co 11:1)
Regardless of the progress we make to become more holy in this life, we will never be perfect. We will still sin at times, as
Paul wrote in Romans 7:18-19, “For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do
the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.” It will only be in heaven that all sin will be removed
from our lives and we are made perfect. Theologians refer to this as perfective sanctification.

These three concepts can be very helpful in our daily walk with God. When we are saved, we are made holy. In addition,
we are called to obey God and grow in holy living each day. Though we will never be perfect in this life, God can and will
work in our lives to help us better live for Him. After this life, we can anticipate a perfect, eternal existence with God in
which we no longer sin and are made perfectly holy, living in the presence of God forever.

To live a holy life one must continue to choose love, purity and generosity.

We must observe the Ten Commandments in order to live a holy life and eventually enter into eternal life. Jesus said to
the rich young man: If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments (Mt. 19:17)

The Ten Commandments teach us to love God and our neighbor. Jesus said: You must love the Lord your God with all your
heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it:
You must love your neighbor as yourself (Mt. 22:37-39).

Thanks to the Holy Spirit, we no longer obey God out of fear, but out of love. Obeying God out of love will prevent us from
committing sin.

Sin is an act of disobedience to the commandments of God. We can sin in thoughts, words actions and omissions. Every
sin involves intellect and will. The intellect because we should know that an action is bad. The will because we agree freely
to commit it. If there is no intellect, or no will, it is not a sin but a mistake. Animals cannot sin, because they have neither
intellect nor will.
The conscience is the mysterious voice of God in our hearts, which tells us to do good and to avoid evil. The conscience is
unborn in every man. However, it must be developed through the study of the Word of God and of the teachings of the
Church.

Virtues are the habitual and strong disposition to do good. A good action is a virtue if it is repeated over and over again
till it becomes a habit.

There are four Cardinal virtues:

1. Prudence is the capacity to discern good from evil, and the steadfast effort to put it into practice.
2. Justice is the habit to give God and our neighbor what is their own.
3. Fortitude is the capacity to be constant in doing good, even at the cost of great sacrifices.
4. Temperance is the ability to use the created goods with balance, without abusing them.

There are three Theological virtues:

1. Faith is to believe in God, and in whatever he teaches us through the Church.
2. Hope is the desire of eternal life, as the reward of our faith and of our good deeds.
3. Charity is to love God with all our heart, and our neighbor as ourselves.

Vices are habitual and strong dispositions to do evil. The vices come from the seven capital sins.

1. Pride is to believe that we are superior to our neighbor and to God.

2. Avarice is not to share our earthly goods with the poor.
3. Envy is to be sad for a good thing which belongs to our neighbor.
4. Wrath is the wild passion to do evil to God and to our neighbor.
5. Lust is the uncontrolled sexual desire
6. Gluttony is the indiscriminate desire to eat and drink.
7. Sloth is spiritual laziness in doing good.

 Deepen Day 4
 Make connection with Church Teaching

Eschatological Man:
We are created for a glorious destiny. Heaven is the destination and ultimate fulfillment of everything for which we
have been created. “Resurrection is not only recovery of body and the reestablishment of human life in its integrity through
the union of the body and soul, but also a wholly new state of human life itself. “ (Theology of the Body 66:3)

Gratitude and joy at the incomparable dignity of man impel us to share this message with everyone: “that which we
have seen and heard, we proclaim also to you, so that you may have fellowship with us.” (1 Jn 1:3) We need to bring the
Gospel of life to the heart of every man and woman and to make it penetrate every part of society.” (Evangelium Vitae 80)

Jesus Christ is exhorting His followers to be His signs, which are to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Mt.
5:13-16). This means that a follower of Christ must be a person who holds the standard of honesty in speech and conduct
and even in thought. No follower can depart from the standards of strict honesty, think lightly of lowered moral standards, or
allow him / herself to use deceiving words and actions that are so often part of social conversation. Christ’s disciples cannot
withdraw from the world, but they must – as St. James wrote – keep themselves “unstained from the world” (James 1:27). If
the disciples are to be the salt of the earth, they must have a definite, positive, liberating influence on others.

The Sacraments, when received in faith fashions us into likeness to Christ.

“Sacraments are saving symbolic acts or visible signs arising from the ministry of Christ and continued in, by and for the
Church, which when received in faith, fashion us into likeness to Christ in His Paschal Mystery, through the power of the Holy
Spirit. (CFC, 1531)
The Seven Sacraments are always Jesus’ saving symbolic acts. Each of the Sacraments celebrated in love by the Church makes
present certain acts of Jesus’ own public ministry. Thus, all the Sacraments are rooted in Christ. Christ Himself acts with the
Holy Spirit when the Sacraments are celebrated properly. He challenges us to a response of love but effectively empowers us,
through the Holy Spirit, to grow into His fullness, which is to attain the perfection of holiness that He is. When properly
received and celebrated, then, the Sacraments gradually fashion everyone ever more to the image and likeness of Christ.
(CFC 1526)

All the Sacraments have their special graces since they all manifest the different ways in which Christ comes to each of us,
meeting us at all the decisive as well as ordinary moments of our lives.

 Synthesis Day 5

What is God’s will for your life? What is God’s calling on your life? Please spend some few minutes of silence.
I can tell you what God’s calling is. Now I’m not presuming to know the details of God’s plan for your life but I do know part
of God’s calling as Thessalonians 4:7 tells us, “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness”. So God has
called you, as a believer in the Lord Jesus, to holiness, to be separate, to be different. That is God’s call.

Holiness is more than just what you do. It is what you are. You are accepted in Christ. If you are saved, you are
fundamentally different from everybody else. You are not going to Hell; you are going to Heaven. You are not part of
darkness; you are part of light. You are in Christ. Your actions need to reflect and be in harmony with what you are. You are a
work of Christ.

What is God’s will? God’s will is more about your integrity and your life matching your position in Christ than it is about your
vocation or where you go. I am not saying that God doesn’t have specific details lined out for you. I am simply saying that
those don’t matter if you are not taking care of the most basic areas of your life.

Whatever else God wants you to do, God wants you to be set apart to Him, not just by what He sees by your position, but in
what other people see by your actions. We are holy. God is most concerned about what you are at heart when no one is
watching. There should be a level of integrity that’s a platform for you to do whatever God has gifted you to do. God’s will for
you today as a child of God is to live holy and to do right. Your actions should be a reflection of your position in Christ.

A Grade 12 Paulinian says he/she wants to be Christ-like in serving others and having joy in the journey of life. What does it
