SECTION - A
I. Very Short Answer questions. 10 x 2 = 20M

quarter of its range.
15. Explain the advantages and the disadvantages of friction
16. What is escape velocity? Obtain an expression for it.
17. What is a geo stationary satellite? State its uses.
18. Define stress and explain types of stress.
19. Find the center of mass of three particles at the vertices of an equilateral triangle. The masses
of the particles are 100g, 150g and 200g respectively. Each side of the equilateral triangle is
0.5m long.

21. Distinguish between isothermal and adiabatic process
22. Derive a relation between the two specific heat capacities to gas on the basis of first law of
thermodynamics.

23. State the law of conservation of energy and verify it in case of a freely falling body. What are
the conditions under which the law of conservation of energy is applicable?
24. a) What is the collision? Explain the possible types of collision? Develop the theory of one
dimensions elastic collision.
b) Calculate the power of the pump required to lift 600kg of water per minute from a well of
25m deep.
25. a) Show that the motion of a simple pendulum is sample harmonic and hence derive an
equation for its time period. What is second pendulum?

26. State and explain newton’s law of cooling. State the conditions under which newton’s law of
cooling is applicable. A body cools down from 600 C to 500C in 5min and to 400C in another
