Born on July 8, 1839, in Richford, New York, John became one of the most well-known
entrepreneurs of the 20th century. His mother instilled in him strong morals, while his father
taught him how to draft contracts and other paperwork. Additionally, he honed a valuable skill in
bookkeeping and negotiations.

He maintained his solid trading methods and eventually acquired Standard Oil Company, which
grew to become the world's largest oil refinery. Despite his affluence, he was an extremely
generous person. Moreover, John contributed significantly to the arts, colleges, and medical
sciences. His efforts were beneficial to public health, medical education, and research.

John D. Rockefeller was the most influential figure in the early phases of the oil industry, and
his monopoly shaped the direction of American commerce.
