tester.

This manual covers –

• Details of the various functions and features controlled by the MBFM unit.

• MBFM diagnostic tester and its application

• Retrieving DTCs from MBFM, analyzing the complaint and taking corrective action.

In spite of our best efforts to make the manual error-free, a few errors could have inadvertently crept in. If
you identify errors, functional or typographical , please inform your TEKline or pillay.ajay@mahindra.com.
Suggestions to improve the manual and make it more user-friendly are also welcome.

1. Exterior lighting
Turn Signal and Hazard Lights are controlled by the MBFM.

The respective direction indicator lights are turned ON whenever the combination
switch stalk is moved to indicate a left or right turn.

Pressing the hazard switch will activate all the direction indicators simultaneously.
It functions without the ignition switch being turned ON.

Failure of any one bulb of the direction indicator lights will be indicated as higher
than normal flashing rate of the direction indicator lamps.

Auto-Hazard – If the vehicle’s bonnet (hood) is opened provided the vehicle speed
is zero and the park lamps are On, the hazard warning lamps will automatically
come ON. The hazard lamp can be switched OFF by pressing the hazard switch to
ON and then OFF. This feature, if not desirable, can be deactivated permanently
using the SMART diagnostic tool.

Follow-me-home headlamp – The headlamps will come ON for 30 secs , after

switching off the parking lamps, removing the ignition key and opening the driver
door. This feature is to help the driver reach home in night or light up a dark
garage. The lights can be extended by locking the vehicle with remote. This
feature, if not desirable, can be deactivated permanently using the SMART
diagnostic tool.

The normal operation of the headlamps, High/Low beams, are not controlled by
MBFM unit.

The puddle lamp of a door is switched ON when the door is opened and remains
ON till 2.5 second after the door is closed. The battery saver function of the MBFM
will switch off the puddle lamp after 10 minutes even if the door is open.
The courtesy lights will be turned ON when the vehicle is unlocked using the
remote unit or when any one of the vehicle’s doors are opened. (Only possible
when the roof lamp switch is in Auto mode).

The MBFM turns OFF the courtesy lamps when any of the following occurs:

• 9 seconds has elapsed since the last door (including tailgate) was closed
while the car is not centrally locked
• The last door (including tailgate) was closed while the car is centrally locked
• The last door (including tailgate) was closed while the ignition is in the Run
or Start position
• All doors (including tailgate) are closed, and the ignition is in the Off or
Accessory position, and a lock (by remote control or mechanical key) is
activated
• Any door open and the Vehicle speed is greater than 40 km/hr. The lamps
will come on again only after all the doors have been closed.
• Battery saver time of 10 min has completed without any door activity or lock
activity.
While turning OFF the courtesy lamps , the MBFM will progressively dim the lamp
before turning it off fully.

3. Heated rear windshield

The heated rear windshield feature heats the rear windshield for a time period
depending on the outside temperature, following activation of the rear demister
switch.

The heating function will work only with engine running and alternator charging the
battery. In the absence of outside ambient temperature information, the MBFM will
turn off the demister after 10 minutes.

4. Wipers
The Front/Rear window wiping / washing will only work if the ignition is in ON or
Start position.

Of the five front wiper modes available on the vehicle (Mist, Intermittent, Low, High
and Wash/Wipe), the MBFM controls only the intermittent wipe, wash/wipe and
Auto rear wipe.

Front Wiper/Wash operations –

Flick Wipe (Mist) – Pushing the wiper stalk up operates the wipers. The
stalk returns back to the OFF position.

Intermittent Wipe (INT) – Pushing the Wiper stalk down operates the
wipers intermittent speed. Initially the delay between each wipe will be 4
secs and this delay can be programmed to be between 1 to 60 secs
depending on the intensity of the rain. The new programmed delay will be
retained only in that particular ignition cycle.

Low Speed Wiper (LO) – Pushing the stalk below the INT position
operates the wipers in low speed. This function is not controlled by
MBFM.

High Speed Wiper (HI) – Pushing the stalk further down below the LO
position operates the wiper in high speed. This function is not controlled
by MBFM.

Wash – When the wiper stalk is pulled towards the steering wheel, the front
washer is activated and sprays water on to the windscreen. The wipers will
automatically start wiping the windscreen and continue to wipe 3 times after
the water spray is stopped.

The wiper will again wipe after 5 secs to clear any dribble from the top of the
windscreen

Rear Wiper/Wash operations –

Rear Wiper – Turning the rear wiper switch up , operates the rear wiper.
This function is not controlled by MBFM.

Rear Wipe/Wash – Turning the rear wiper switch down and holding in that
position will turn on the water spray. The wipers will automatically start
wiping the tailgate glass and continue to wipe 3 times after the water spray
is stopped This function is not controlled by MBFM.

operate the rear wipers in the same mode as the front wipers. This feature, if not
desirable, can be deactivated permanently using the SMART diagnostic tool.

the driver door is locked from by the inner door lock handle is pushed (from inside).

Remote Lock /Unlock – All the 5 doors will be centrally locked by the MBFM unit
when the doors are locked by the RF remote control unit. The lock/unlock status is
indicated by chirps from the vehicles security siren and blinking of direction
indicators.
1 chirp/1 blink – Unlock
2 chirp/2 blinks – Lock

Auto Relock – If the vehicle is unlocked by remote and if no action like door
opening/ignition ON is sensed for 40 secs, the MBFM will relock the vehicle.

Auto Lock on speed – The MBFM will lock all the doors, if the vehicle speed
reaches 25 Kms/hr. This feature, if not desirable, can be deactivated permanently
using the SMART diagnostic tool.

Auto Unlock – The MBFM will unlock all the doors as soon as the vehicle is
stopped and the Ignition is switched OFF. This feature, if not desirable, can be
deactivated permanently using the SMART diagnostic tool.

Battery Voltage

Code Label
9080 Battery under voltage (< 8 volts)
9081 Battery over voltage ( > 16 Volts)

The battery voltage is monitored by the MBFM

The correct operating range is 9 V to 16 V.

Below 9 Volts the System is in under voltage state. Below 8 V the system will not
transmit LIN message. If the system notices below 8 V and when the vehicle
reports at workshop that time it is OK then please check for the cause of low
voltage ( excess current being drawn- dark current, short which got compensated
by charging system)

Above 16 V is over voltage. At this voltage also the MBFM will stop functioning.
This information is also useful to find out the root cause of any ECU or electronic
failure. For this also the charging system and the complete wiring should be
investigated to prevent recurrence.
