Seferiel: Book of God

Seferiel: “Book of God”

This is an archangel who has deep connections with Tzafkiel, the archangelic emanation of Binah who is
known as a “recording angel” and “keeper of the heavenly libraries,” for Seferiel, as the name implies, is
among the angels of God that generates heavenly scrolls and books. As we know, very often prophets recount
being given heavenly scrolls to eat, and by eating them in dream or vision, so knowledge and power is
communicated to them. Seferiel is associated with the creation of these heavenly scrolls, and the power that is
set into them. Along with these, there are also heavenly scrolls or books that are brought in dream or vision
for prophets and righteous ones to read, books that convey prophecy or knowledge of secret mysteries; and
there have been many tzaddikim and initiates who have spoken of receiving knowledge and understanding of
great mysteries of the Holy Kabbalah in this way.

Perhaps one of the greatest examples is Rabbi Moses de Leon, the recorder of the famed Zohar, one of the
greatest classical source-works of the Kabbalah. The rabbi claimed to be copying or translating the Zohar
from “books in his possession,” but when he died no such books were found, and according to his wife he did
not possess any such books in this world, but she said the wisdom of the Zohar flowed from him. Did a holy
tzaddik who had deep knowledge of the Torah and Kabbalah lie, and perpetuate a fraud, or was the holy
tzaddik telling the truth, and was in possession of special books, heavenly books, not earthly books?
Mekubalim who have a true knowledge and understanding of the Kabbalah have said that he was speaking
the truth, but that it was heavenly books from which the Zohar was “read” and recorded.

If and when tzaddikim or initiates wish to “read” heavenly books, Seferiel is an archangel they might invoke.

Here it must be said, though, that while reading heavenly scrolls of books in luminous dreams and visions
can be quite literal – occurring as a dream or vision of reading, so it can also correspond with mind-to-mind
or heart-to-heart transmissions of knowledge of mysteries, or wisdom treasuries, or prophecies, or what may
be a called a “direct download” of entire bodies of spiritual knowledge and understanding.

Joined with this, Seferiel is also said to hold special knowledge of the Sefirot, or Divine Attributes, as “Books
of the Knowledge of God,” and it is said that he/she teaches how souls may cleave to them, and unify with
them, and so “read” these “books” to know the Lord. In other words, this is an archangel who hold a unique
knowledge of the Holy Sefirot, and who teaches a unique way of contemplating and meditating upon them.

In this, perhaps, you might intuit that this angel of God also teaches special ways of contemplating and
meditating upon the Names of God.

Seferiel is a very glorious and beautiful archangelic presence, appearing as a celestial sage and scribe, and
often appears enshrouded in Supernal Glory; he/she is most often invoked in the Name of Yahweh, and a
chant that is taught for this holy angel is: Sa-Shu, Sa-Fa-Ree-El.

There are two other angels that bear the name Seferiel, Seferiel Mehayye and Seferiel Memit, the “keeper of
the Book of Life and Book of Death,” respectively, who are also called the “bearers of God’s Name
(Yahweh). These twin archangels who “mirror one another” are very lofty and holy supernal princes who are
accounted as among the eight supreme archangels of the Holy Merkavah and who are said to be among the
supernal judges exalted beyond Archangel Metatron. They are called “great guardians of the People of the
Book,” and they are teachers of teachers among the holy angels of God. They are angels of God that minister
to the soul of Elijah and Yohanan the Baptist, and to the Messiah, and are among those who hold knowledge
of secret mysteries of the Primordial Torah and Gospel. The invocations of these Great Angels are revealed to
those who know how to ride the Chariot, and only when the Chariot is in motion.

This is what it is given that we can record about these two angels who share the name Seferiel.
