As part of the QA team, one of my responsibilities is to conduct protein testing on our medical glove

products and ensure that they pass the test. Testing is done conforming to ASTM or EN standard,
depends on our customer’s requirement. Both methods represent the Extractable Proteins (EP) in
different unit (µg/dm2 or µg/g respectively).

Of course, one can just read the standard and follow the instruction accordingly. That is the easiest
way. But in order to validate the test methods (because different laboratory has different set up and
instruments), one has to fully understand what is actually going on in the process and the purposes
of the action so that the validation can be done specific to the workplace.

I am grateful to be given an opportunity to underwent a course in theory and practical of protein

testing at Academy Hevea Malaysia of Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) recently. The course is really
helping on increasing further in-depth knowledge about the subject. I can now see on how I am able
to reduce error and improve accuracy of the test at my lab.

Kudos and gratitude towards the Protein Testing Unit of MRB for their warm welcome and
professional guidance.
